NCT ID: NCT00022984 Completed - Clinical trials for Cardiovascular Disease

Technology Dependency and Health-Related Quality of Life

Start date: August 2001
Phase: N/A
Study type: Observational

This study will explore how people with an implanted cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) feel that dependence on this life-saving technology affects their health-related quality of life. ICD therapy is an important treatment option for patients with serious recurrent abnormal heart rhythms. Overall survival is significantly improved in high risk patients who receive this therapy. This study will explore patients' perceptions of the impact of this device on their health status and well being, and their physical, psychological and social functioning. Patients 18 years of age or older who have an implanted cardioverter defibrillator may be eligible for this study. Participants will fill out a questionnaire booklet containing 170 questions about how they feel about their health, including their concerns and stresses, feelings about dependency on life-saving technology, and illness perception. There are also questions on demography, such as age, marital status, employment, etc. The booklet may take up to 30 minutes to complete. Information obtained from this study may lead to a better understanding of how people feel about their health after receiving an ICD and help patients and families adapt to living with the device.

NCT ID: NCT00021970 Completed - Clinical trials for Cardiovascular Diseases

Modifying Oxidative Damage in WAVE - Ancillary to WAVE

Start date: April 2001
Phase: N/A
Study type: Observational

To determine the effects of four treatments (placebo, a vitamin E and C regimen, a hormone replacement regimen, and a combined vitamin/hormone replacement regimen) on specific markers of oxidative damage in coronary arteries of postmenopausal women.

NCT ID: NCT00021957 Completed - Heart Failure Clinical Trials

ESCAPE Mechanistic Substudies - Ancillary to ESCAPE

Start date: April 2001
Phase: N/A
Study type: Observational

To determine the value of serum markers as surrogate endpoints and hemodynamic biomarkers of congestive heart failure.

NCT ID: NCT00021944 Completed - Clinical trials for Cardiovascular Diseases

Non-Traditional Cardiovascular Risk Factors in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus - Ancillary to VA Study of Glycemic Control

Start date: April 2001
Phase: N/A
Study type: Observational

To test whether novel cardiovascular risk factors are related to the presence and development of atherosclerosis and macrovascular events in Type 2 diabetes mellitus and to determine whether intensive glucose lowering therapy will reduce the levels of these cardiovascular risk factors.

NCT ID: NCT00021918 Completed - Hypertension Clinical Trials

Serum Total Homocysteine and C-Reactive Protein - Ancillary to IDNT

Start date: April 2001
Phase: N/A
Study type: Observational

To examine the independent association of serum total homocysteine and C-reactive protein with arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease morbidity and mortality.

NCT ID: NCT00021905 Completed - Hypertension Clinical Trials

Atrial Fibrillation Incidence, Risk Factors and Genetics

Start date: July 2002
Phase: N/A
Study type: Observational

To assess the risk of incident atrial fibrillation after stopping anti-hypertensive medication including beta-blockers and ACE inhibitors. Also, to assess the role of genetics in subsequent risk of stroke among patients with atrial fibrillation.

NCT ID: NCT00021892 Completed - Heart Failure Clinical Trials

Ventricular Matrix Remodeling: Correlates and Prognosis

Start date: June 2001
Phase: N/A
Study type: Observational

To assess the diagnostic and prognostic usefulness of serum markers of left ventricular remodeling for predicting congestive heart failure.

NCT ID: NCT00021879 Completed - Obesity Clinical Trials

Visceral Adiposity and CVD Risk in Women

Start date: March 2001
Phase: N/A
Study type: Observational

To investigate the influence of total body fat and visceral fat on risk factors of diabetes and cardiovascular disease (CVD) in black and white women.

NCT ID: NCT00018460 Completed - Clinical trials for Cardiovascular Diseases

Anticoagulation, Vitamins, and Endothelial Function

Start date: April 1999
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Determine whether low or high dose B vitamin therapy will lower homocysteine and thrombomodulin in patients anticoagulated with warfarin.

NCT ID: NCT00018421 Completed - Stroke Clinical Trials

Effects of Exercise on Patients With Hemiparetic Stroke

Start date: July 1997
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

This randomized trial investigates the hypothesis that regular aerobic exercise training using a task specific gait training modality will improve cardiovascular fitness, functional mobility, and reduce risk factors for recurrent cardiovascular events in chronic hemiparetic stroke patients, when compared to matched controls performing just stretching.
