Acetyl-L-Carnitine Hydrochloride in Preventing Peripheral Neuropathy in Patients With Recurrent Ovarian Epithelial Cancer, Primary Peritoneal Cavity Cancer, or Fallopian Tube Cancer Undergoing Chemotherapy

This randomized phase III trial studies how well acetyl-L-carnitine hydrochloride works compared to a placebo in preventing peripheral neuropathy in patients with recurrent ovarian epithelial cancer, primary peritoneal cancer, or fallopian tube cancer undergoing chemotherapy. Acetyl-L-carnitine hydrochloride may prevent or lessen peripheral neuropathy caused by chemotherapy. It is not yet known whether acetyl-L-carnitine hydrochloride is more effective compared to a placebo in preventing peripheral neuropathy caused by chemotherapy.

A prospective diagnostic clinical study randomising patients undergoing endobronchial ultrasound guided transbronchial needle aspiration (EBUS-TBNA) of enlarged mediastinal and hilar lymph nodes to have sampling using the usual EBUS-TBNA needle or a novel biopsy forceps (EBUS-TBNB). The study aims to establish whether the use of EBUS-TBNB can significantly increase the diagnostic yield over EBUS-TBNA, without an increase in complication rates.

Phase I/II Study of Postoperative Adjuvant Chemoradiation for Advanced-Stage Cutaneous Squamous Cell Carcinoma of the Head and Neck (cSCCHN)

This phase I/II trial studies the side effects and best dose of linsitinib when given together with erlotinib hydrochloride and radiation therapy after surgery in treating patients with advanced or recurrent head and neck cancer. Erlotinib hydrochloride and linsitinib may stop the growth of tumor cells by blocking some of the enzymes needed for cell growth. Radiation therapy uses high-energy x-rays to kill tumor cells. Giving radiation therapy together with erlotinib hydrochloride and linsitinib may kill more tumor cells. Giving these treatments after surgery may kill any tumor cells that remain after surgery.

A Study Of Crizotinib Plus VEGF Inhibitor Combinations In Patients With Advanced Solid Tumors.

Despite the success of anti-angiogenic therapy in multiple treatment settings, a fraction of patients are refractory to vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) inhibitor treatment while the majority of patients will eventually develop evasive resistance and exhibit disease progression while on therapy. It is proposed that mesenchymal-epithelial transition factor (c-MET) and its ligand hepatocyte growth factor (HGF or scatter factor) contribute significantly to VEGF inhibitor resistance such that combining a c-MET inhibitor with a VEGF inhibitor will provide additional clinical activity compared to VEGF inhibitor alone. This hypothesis will be tested using the cMET/ALK inhibitor, crizotinib, in combination with individual VEGF inhibitors. Three combinations will be prioritized, namely crizotinib plus axitinib, crizotinib plus sunitinib and crizotinib plus bevacizumab, with a fourth combination, crizotinib plus sorafenib to be tested only if crizotinib does not combine with either axitinib and/or sunitinib.
