Secondary: to compare the progression-free survival, incidence of locoregional failure, site of the first recurrence/progression, objective response rate assessment, quality of life assessment and incidence of adverse events.
Sorafenib is the standard therapy for advanced liver cancer but often shows dose-limiting toxicities with the need to reduce the applied dose of the compound. As this limits the overall response rate of the therapy, a combination with temsirolimus, an inhibitor of mTOR signaling, will be investigated regarding safety and tolerability in patients with advanced liver cancer under a reduced dose of sorafenib.
This phase I trial studies the side effects and best dose of giving everolimus (RAD001) and erlotinib hydrochloride together with radiation therapy in treating patients with recurrent head and neck cancer previously treated with radiation therapy. RAD001 and erlotinib hydrochloride may stop the growth of tumor cells by blocking some of the enzymes needed for cell growth. Radiation therapy uses high energy x rays to kill tumor cells. Giving RAD001 and erlotinib hydrochloride together with radiation therapy may kill more tumor cells.
Primary Objective: To compare the efficacy of TACE vs. CyberKnife SBRT in the treatment of locally recurrent HCC after initial TACE. Secondary Objectives: 1. To determine the progression-free survival of TACE vs. CyberKnife SBRT 2. To determine the overall survival of TACE vs. CyberKnife SBRT for locally recurrent HCC 3. To determine the toxicities associated with TACE or CyberKnife SBRT for the treatment of recurrent HCC.
To compare the efficacy of Transarterial Chemoembolization (TACE) to CyberKnife stereotactic body radiotherapy in the treatment of patients with locally recurrent hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) after TACE.
The primary study objective will be to assess the efficacy of the combination of radiation therapy with nimotuzumab and cisplatin, as compared to the combination of radiation therapy plus cisplatin in the treatment of Uterine Cervical Carcinoma (UCC). The secondary study objectives will be safety and tolerability evaluations, to determine treatment feasibility and the interim efficacy evaluation according to other parameters routinely used in oncology.
This study will compare TNFE-NBI and biopsy, with DRE and biopsy for the diagnostic evaluation and staging of patients with suspicious UADT lesions. All patients enrolled in the study will undergo TNFE-NBI with biopsy of suspicious lesions prior to planned regular clinical care (DRE). Biopsies will be evaluated by standard clinical methods for patient diagnoses and care. As the current standard of care, if all biopsies for a given patient are non-malignant, a 3 month office visit will be arranged to evaluate and determine the need for further intervention. At the end of study enrollment both sets of biopsies will be re-evaluated in a blinded fashion by the surgical pathologist. Study assessment of malignant vs. non-malignant (benign) pathology will be used to see whether both tests tended to agree on diagnoses.
The purpose of this research is to investigate school response to families who have children with cancer. It is anticipated that the results of this study will enhance the support that schools can give to the population of families who have a child with cancer. The study will involve the parents in these families, the principal and an educator in the school of the child with cancer. Measurement tools will include surveys, interviews, and other relevant educational and medical documents.
RATIONAL FOR STUDYING IV NAC AS POTENTIAL CHEMOPROTECTANT: Cisplatin has shown efficacy in the treatment of subjects with epithelial ovarian cancer. Systemic toxicities associated with cisplatin include nephro, oto, and nerve toxicities. It may be possible to reduce the toxicities of cisplatin by administering it in conjunction with IV NAC. NAC may reduce cisplatin related nephro, oto, and nerve toxicities without compromising the effectiveness of the chemotherapy against the ovarian cancer cells. It is possible that this combination of drugs may in the future allow ovarian cancer patients to receive the full series of IP cisplatin-paclitaxel chemotherapy, with fewer side effects and improved survival. It is hypothesized that the proposed treatment of stage III or IV epithelial ovarian cancer with IP cisplatin and IV/IP paclitaxel in conjunction with IV NAC will limit the neurotoxicity, nephrotoxicity and ototoxicity that is associated with cisplatin administration.
RATIONALE: Breast-conserving surgery is a less invasive type of surgery for breast cancer and may have fewer side effects and improve recovery. Radiation therapy uses high-energy x-rays to kill tumor cells. Giving radiation therapy after surgery may kill any tumor cells that remain after surgery. PURPOSE: This phase II clinical trial is studying how well breast-conserving surgery followed by radiation therapy works in treating patients with stage I or stage II breast cancer.
