Filter by:The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of a 12-week flexi band resistance training program compared to different whole-body electromyostimulation (WB-EMS) exercise programs on muscle strength, body composition (in particular muscle mass), cardiorespiratory fitness, inflammation, and patient-reported subjective outcomes (e.g. quality of life, fatigue, performance status) in patients with malignant disease undergoing curative or palliative anti-cancer treatment.
This open randomized trial investigates, if clinicians complete CTCAE ratings differently when receiving patients' patient-reported outcome (PRO) data prior to their CTCAE completion. The primary objective is to demonstrate superior inter-rater reliability of CTCAE ratings from physicians relying on EORTC PRO data as additional data source over traditional CTCAE ratings not including PRO information.

Model and map, from a qualitative multi-phased protocol, the conceptions and systems of conceptions of the determinants of health and cancer expressed and perceived by schoolchildren aged 6 to 11 years. The secondary objectives are to analyze the ability to question the conceptions of children's health regardless of their age and to link conceptions and determinants to contextual factors. The informative value and complementarity of the collection tools (photo expression, QC, photo-narration) and the relevance of a mixed analysis methodology (qualitative and quantitative) in order to highlight the different determinants of health will also be studied.
The Hamlet.rt study is a prospective data collection and patient questionnaire study for patients undergoing image-guided radiotherapy with curative intent. The aim of the study is to use novel machine learning and mathematical techniques to build a model that can predict the risk of significant side effects from radiotherapy treatment for an individual patient: using calculations of normal tissue dose from radiotherapy treatment planning and patient baseline characteristics derived from image and non-image data, continuously updated as the patient is reviewed both during and after treatment. A secondary goal of the project is to facilitate research in machine learning and medical image processing for radiation therapy through the creation of a discoverable and shared data resource for research use.
The purpose of this study is to use a stepped-care approach in treating symptoms of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The information learned by doing this study may help us to develop some target treatments for PTSD symptoms in survivors of stem cell transplant. Participants in this study will be randomized to a mobile app or usual care. An assessment will be made after 4 weeks and a determination made of adding more intensive treatment. Participants will be asked to complete a questionnaire 4 times over a period of 6 months, at the time your participation is complete.
The purpose of this study is to learn whether an education and support program can help caregivers feel more confident in technical and communication skills needed to care for a person with cancer. Patients with cancer and their caregivers face many challenges. These include learning about cancer and its treatment, coping with symptoms from illness and treatment side effects, making adjustments to usual activities, and managing the emotional effects of having a serious illness. This study is testing whether different forms of education and support can help caregivers feel better prepared. To find out if education about caregiving and different kinds of support are effective, study personnel will compare approaches to help find ways to improve the services that are provided to caregivers during cancer treatment. About 180 patients and their caregivers at the Seidman Cancer Center will take part in this study. Participating in research is voluntary and this study is funded by the National Institute of Health.
Childhood cancer survivors are vulnerable to treatment-related late effects, including physical and psychosocial morbidities, subsequent malignancies, and premature death. Symptom assessment provides a unique insight into survivorship care since symptoms not only indicate the manifestation for the occurrence of chronic health conditions, but also impact quality of life and survival. The National Cancer Institute (NCI) has developed a Patient-Reported Outcomes version of the Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events (PRO-CTCAE) to assess symptomatic adverse events (AEs) for adult-onset cancer patients who are receiving cancer therapies. However, content-appropriate and clinically validated symptom assessment tools for adult survivors of childhood cancer are not available. New therapies for cancer increased patient survival, but led to the recognition of adverse effects associated with cancer treatment, such as the use of chemotherapy. Cardiotoxicity is the most significant adverse effect, which affect the functional capacity and quality of life and is associated with high morbidity and mortality, regardless of the oncological prognosis. One of the manifestations of cardiotoxicity is ventricular dysfunction that can lead to heart failure. Neuro humoral hyperactivation with increased sympathetic nerve activity is a typical manifestation of heart failure and is associated with worse prognosis. Studies have shown that physical training significantly reduces sympathetic nerve activity in addition to improving muscle blood flow, reversing effects on skeletal muscle and improving quality of life. The hypothesis is that physical training may reduce sympathetic nerve activity and vasoconstrictor status in patients with heart failure caused by anthracyclines, as well as improving baroreflex and chemoreflex sensibility, mechanoreflex and metaborreflex control and skeletal myopathy.
Patients with suspected cancer (SCAN) and cancer of unknown primary tumor (CUP) are vulnerable because the investigation is difficult and expensive and have poor prognosis because few effective established curative treatments are available. Great progress has been made, for example through highly qualified and systematic clinical investigations not least within the framework of the standardized care processes. However, there is a need for faster, less invasive and more cost-effective tests to confirm or exclude the diagnosis of carcinoma (epithelial cancer), primarily for SCAN and secondly for CUP, and partly to receive suggestions for localization of the primary tumor for primarily CUP and secondly SCAN. There is also a need for prediction of molecularly targeted therapies. New research provides opportunities for using a blood test to acquire detailed and updated information about the individual patient's disease and thus also open new opportunities for faster, less invasive and more cost-effective diagnosis and prediction of molecularly targeted treatments based on individualized sampling and molecular stratification. It is important that these opportunities are tested in a timely fashion in practical health care, so the new opportunities can be taken advantage of and developed in the best way. The aim is to establish a new "best practice" for these hard-to-study and difficult-to-treat patients. Samples will be taken of epithelial cells circulating in the blood, and of the free circulating DNA. As a reference, germ-line DNA will also be sampled, also from regular blood samples. The analyses will show whether the cellular and molecular tests can work in the existing standardized care processes for SCAN and CUP, or if adaptations in routines, training or equipment need to be introduced. The analyses will also give an indication of whether the cellular and molecular sample analyses provide practically useful information for confirming or refuting the diagnosis of cancer, suggesting from which organ the cancer originated and for predicting individualized therapies, and whether adaptations in routines, training or technology need to be introduced.
