This study is to evaluate the safety and the efficacy of Prograf in patients with interstitial pneumonia associated with polymyositis / dermatomyositis in acute clinical setting.
This research study is being carried out to determine the possibility that a new medication causes allergic reactions. This new medication contains two active ingredients (diclofenac and menthol) together in a gel and is being developed to treat mild to moderate pain and inflammation, such as acute sport injuries, and sprains and strains. Approximately 240 participants will have the medication (gel) applied to the skin on a small area of the upper back for approximately 48-hour or 72-hour periods over the course of six weeks. Participation in this research study is voluntary, requiring participants to visit the study clinic on 17 occasions for about 45 minutes each visit. During the visits, doctors or trained staff members will examine the amount of redness, swelling, and other signs of irritation (if any) of the skin where the medication (gel) was applied.
The aim of this study is to evaluate the therapeutic efficacy of a neuromodulation technique, tDCS (transcranial direct current stimulation) used as a complementary treatment on negative symptoms. 60 patients will be randomized into two groups (active tDCS vs sham tDCS) and will be assessed after the intervention, 1 and 3 months after.Secondary outcomes shall include neuropsychological assessment, general symptomatology, extrapyramidal symptoms and social functioning.
The goals of this project are 1) to assess the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of the checklist to prevent MRSA SSIs among Veterans undergoing TJA or cardiac surgery, and 2) to assess barriers and facilitators to checklist implementation. Hypotheses: 1. The SSI checklist will be effective at reducing MRSA SSIs among total joint arthroplasty and cardiac surgery patients. 2. Implementation of the checklist will be associated with an overall reduction in SSIs caused by all pathogens. 3. The SSI Checklist will be cost-saving since it will prevent many expensive SSIs. 4. Preoperative MRSA testing will be a modifiable barrier to implementing the SSI checklist.
This study will compare bilateral priming followed by task specific training to health care education followed by the same task specific training protocol. The intention is to understand the effects of priming on upper limb training post-stroke.
The primary purpose of this study is to determine the efficacy and safety of Sodium Oligo-mannurarate (GV-971) in 36-week treatment of mild to moderate Alzheimer's disease.
As part of mandatory on-going nursing education, the investigators have incorporated identical information into two distinct web-based learning formats - the traditional linear PowerPoint format (with voice-over) and a new interactive format developed with central nursing education. The investigators will cluster randomize nurses by floor to receive either the traditional education or the new interactive education, and evaluate the impact on administration of VTE prophylaxis doses administered by nurses before and after education. All nurses on a floor will receive the same educational format. If one method of education results in statistically significant improvement in VTE prophylaxis administration, the investigators will cross over to deliver the superior education format to all nurses who originally were given the less effective method.
Introduction: The lack of congruence between the acetabulum and femoral head in hip dysplasia compromise the passive stability of the hip joint resulting in increased stress on the acetabular labrum, joint capsule and the muscles acting close to the hip joint. Soft tissue injury is present in hip dysplasia, and pathology of the iliopsoas muscle has been found in 18-50%. To our knowledge, no studies have systematically examined the prevalence of soft tissue pathology in hip dysplasia. The overall aim of this research project is to examine soft tissue pathology in 100 patients with hip dysplasia prior to and one year after Periacetabular osteotomy (PAO). Methods: Soft tissue pathology will be examined in a prospective cohort study on 100 patients with hip dysplasia prior to and one year after surgery. Pathology will be examined using ultrasonography and the Clinical Entities Approach that focus on pathology of the iliopsoas, adductors, rectus abdominis, gluteus medius and hamstrings. Furthermore, hip muscle strength is tested with a dynamometer, hip related health is measured with the Copenhagen Hip and Groin Outcome Score (HAGOS) and physical activity is measured with triaxial accelerometers during a period of 7 days. Perspective: Is it possible to demonstrate pathology of the hip muscles and tendons applying clinical tests, muscle strength tests, and ultrasonography, as it has been found in sports-active people with groin pain, it will make sense to plan and test a specific training program focusing on the pathological soft tissue pathology.
Prolonged labour is a cause of maternal mortality and morbidity and perinatal mortality and morbidity. Prolonged labour is most often defined as onset of regular , rhythmical painful contractions accompanied by cervical dilatation where labour is longer than 24 hours.prolonged active phase should not last longer than 12 hours without full assessment in a facility able to offer management and treatment of complications.Causes of prolonged labour usually due to poor or uncoordinated uterine action , fetal head malposition , and or abnormal pelvis either due to bone or soft tissue obstruction. Arrested or prolonged labor is a frequent indication of cesarean delivery.Prolonged labor is also associated with increased pain and negative birth experience. Women with a prolonged first stage of labor have experienced a higher rate of postpartum hemorrhage, chorioamnionitis and neonatal admission to the intensive care unit. Caesarean section rates are over 20% in many developed countries and have increased nearly four-fold relative to the 5% rate observed in the early 1970s. The main diagnosis contributing to this increase is dystocia or prolonged labor.Data obtained from local hospital records showed that Caesarean section rate in Assiut University Women's Health Hospital is 47.96% at 2013. Dystocia is a term used for delay of labor progress and usually refers to abnormally slow cervical dilatation. It has been proposed that the partogram should include, as a diagnostic criterion, a 1 cm/hour line originating at admission. The World Health Organization has proposed a modified partogram that recommends that active phase be diagnosed only at 4 cm or more. Oxytocin augmentation of uterine contractions with or without amniotomy is widely used in the modern obstetric practice to treat a slow labour, although the timing of oxytocin initiation and amniotomy may vary widely. This intervention is based on the hypothesis that the most frequent cause of dystocia is inadequate uterine contraction. The mechanism by which amniotomy speeds up labour remains unclear it is thought that when the membranes are ruptured ,the production and release of prostaglandins and oxytocin increases resulting in stronger contractions and quicker cervical dilatation. I has been found that early intervention (augmentation versus routine care ) with amniotomy and oxytocin to be associated with a modest reduction in the risk of caesarean section. Moreover, amniotomy found to be associated with an increased risk of cesarean delivery compared with women without amniotomy for shortening of spontaneous labour. The 3 methods ( Amniotomy, Oxytocin or both) used for augmentation of labor in different settings without a real conclusion which is better.
The purpose of this extended study is to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of the Zenith® Branch Endovascular Graft-Iliac Bifurcation in combination with the commercially available Atrium iCASTâ„¢ covered stent in patients in a treatment of aortoiliac and iliac aneurysms.
