Filter by:Wrist-worn wearables are used for fitness and health monitoring. This global expansion of wearable technology opens up opportunities for the diagnosis and management of chronic conditions. Diabetic patients have a two to three-fold higher risk of developing cardiovascular disease and that cardiovascular diseases accounted for 29.2.% of all deaths in Singapore. The wearable device is a promising avenue that allows for continuous monitoring of the large population of patients. Its ubiquitous and easy to use nature is an added advantage for its implementation. In this study, the investigators aim to leverage existing photoplethysmography (PPG) technology, together with artificial intelligence, to accurately monitor blood glucose levels in a continuous and non-invasive manner. A simple non-invasive tool to monitor blood glucose will be developed, and alerts will be issued when the blood glucose levels fall in the unhealthy range. A standard glucometer will be used to calibrate and validate PPG measurements of blood glucose. This study aims to recruit 500 participants from KK Women's and Children's Hospital.
Milk proteins possess multiple biological activities including their effect on blood glucose control, satiety and energy intake. The design of functional food products with added milk protein fractions has many challenges related to their inferior sensory properties. Chocolate milk presents the universal vehicle for added milk protein fractions that might partially mask their sensory characteristics. However, commercially produced chocolate milk has a significant amount of added sugar. This project will investigate the properties of a value-added dairy product (chocolate milk with reduced sugar content) enriched with individual milk protein fractions on characteristics of blood glucose control, satiety and energy intake in young healthy adults.
Urological surgery patients will have their blood glucose measured before, during, and after surgery. Blood glucose will be measured using a continuous glucose monitor (CGM) device. We hypothesize the presence of a hyperglycemic state towards the end of surgery due to increased metabolic demand.
A low glycemic multigrain flour for chapattis will be made from grains and cereals that are easily available in Pakistan. The nutritional profile and composition of test flour will be checked through proximate analysis method determined by AOAC. GI of test flour will be determined by comparing it with a reference food. The participants will be fed reference food i.e., 50gm glucose dissolved in 250ml water and test food serving having 50gm of available carbohydrates separately after an overnight fast. Finger prick method will be used to determine blood glucose levels at 0,15, 30, 45, 90 minutes. Trapezoidal rule will be used to determine iAUC and GI and GL will be determined by using standard formulas. Efficacy of test flour will be checked by human clinical trial. Control group will be fed chapatis made from test flour for 90 days. Anthropometry, body composition and biochemical measures including HbA1c, blood glucose (fasting and random) and lipid profile will be analyzed pre- and post-intervention and differences in their readings will be compared.
Energy drinks consumption has varied effects on the hemodynamic, blood glucose levels, brain functions and memory. The use of energy drinks is pervasive and especially young adults consume it often as binge drinking. The negative health effects of excessive use of energy drinks has been reported in the scientific literature. Often energy drinks are consumed to enhance alertness and cognition improvement. In this trial, the investigators intend to compare the effects of a widely available energy drink brand in the country with the usual black tea with 5gm sugar and milk. The aims of this study is: 1. To determine the effect of consumption of energy drinks on hemodynamics parameters. 2. To determine the effect of consumption of energy drinks on short term memory 3. To determine the effect of consumption of energy drinks on vigilance in adults 4. To determine the effect of consumption of energy drinks on blood glucose in adults 5. To analyze the effect of energy drink on perception in adults
Dairy products represent an important food group in human nutrition as a source of calcium, protein, functional fats and low-glycaemic sugar lactose. While traditionally consumed natural milk and yogurt have low sugar content, many flavoured liquid dairy products such as chocolate milk, or fermented products such as yogurt have added sugar. Our recent studies have shown that the partial reduction of added sugar in chocolate milk and yogurt is not associated with any inferior sensory characteristics such as taste and pleasantness compared to their full-sugar counterparts. The current project will investigate whether the liquid dairy products with reduced sugar content (value-added products) have any benefits on blood glucose control in humans.
The objective of this clinical trial is to evaluate the short term effects of single dose AP green tea extracts in subjects with BMI (< 30 kg/m2) and fasting glucose level of > 100 mg/dL after high-fat/high-carbohydrate meal.
This study investigates the association of genetic effects of rs7903146 and dietary intake on type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) risk in a healthy population. T2DM risk was assessed through glycated haemoglobin (HbA1c) concentration in 73 subjects. Dietary intake was assessed using a validated food frequency questionnaire (FFQ).
The project Shall we get to know your health better? Lifestyle assessment, blood pressure and cholesterol in the population of Libbs Farmacêutica employeesLTDA.; consists of a study that will bring knowledge and enable quantificationof risk factors related to cardiovascular diseases in this population above mentioned.
This study aims to determine whether the effectiveness of cinnamon spice capsules vs. placebo capsules on glucose tolerance in prediabetic subjects who are overweight or obese.
