Filter by:Cryoballoon ablation is proven to be effective in pulmonary vein isolation in patients with paroxysmal and persistent atrial fibrillation. We previously reported that the rhythm outcome of radiofrequency (RF) catheter ablations are equivalent in patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation and in those with surgically and hemodynamically corrected valvular atrial fibrillation. In contrast, the Cryoballoon ablation can reduce the procedure times, it cannot conduct empirical linear ablation or extra-pulmonary vein foci ablation. The aim of this study is to compare Cryoballoon pulmonary vein isolation and RF ablation including linear ablation or extra-pulmonary vein foci ablations in patients with hemodynamically corrected valvular atrial fibrillation.
This study intends to explore a new therapy to reduce the incidence of atrial fibrillation in thoracic patient who receive video-assisted thoracoscopic lobectomy .The results of the study are to assess the effects of this new intervention on the incidenceļ¼duration of atrial fibrillation and other complications including postoperative delirium after video-assisted thoracoscopic lobectomy .And reducing the burden of POAF on patients and their families, hospitals and public resources.
Atrial flutter is a common condition that is effectively treated by ablation using radiofrequency. Due to its feasibility, effectiveness and low procedural risk, radiofrequency ablation is a first-line treatment of atrial flutter. Several studies have been published concerning the factors associated with the occurrence of atrial fibrillation during or after flutter ablation, in patients with and without clinical history of atrial fibrillation. 26 to 46% of patients are likely to develop it, according to ECG or Holter diagnoses. The figure rises to more than 50% with a diagnosis with an implantable loop recorder. In patients without a prior history of atrial fibrillation before ablation, anticoagulants are routinely administered 4-6 weeks after flutter removal by most cardiologists. Although there are no specific guidelines for anticoagulation after flutter ablation, it is currently recommended to treat the patient as for atrial fibrillation. It is therefore crucial to identify in advance patients at high risk of atrial fibrillation after flutter ablation, in order to assess the appropriateness of maintaining oral anticoagulant therapy. The objectives of this study are: - to evaluate the frequency and identify the factors predicting the occurrence of atrial fibrillation after flutter ablation - to determine the risk of a stroke occurring in patients with atrial fibrillation after flutter ablation. The database consists in patients of the CHU Brugmann Hospital treated between 1996 and 2018.
The Jordanian AF study, the first of its kind in Jordan, will evaluate patients with AF in an in-patient and out-patient settings. The morbidity and mortality associated with AF has not been studied in this region especially with the relation to the HAD BLED and CHADS VAC score.

New parameters or methods, such as ablation index, have been developed for the quantification of high-frequency energy used in pulmonary vein isolation, but there is no known method for atrial fibrillation considering individual differences in atrial tissue. The atrium is only 1/3 of the thickness of the ventricle and is thinner in women and older than men or young people. The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of radiofrequency energy therapy using atrial individual differences. In order to reflect the thickness of the atrium, we will use the unipolar and bipolar maps and the myocardial thickness map using computed tomography (CT) images. To evaluate the efficacy and safety of energy titration therapy by random assignment of high frequency energy therapy group, CT image application high frequency energy therapy group, and existing empirical high frequency therapy group.

To determine whether a risk-based screening programme for occult paroxysmal atrial fibrillation, involving extended cardiac monitoring in adults with CHA2DS2-VASc score of 3 or greater, increases the detection of new atrial fibrillation/flutter. 2. To determine whether a risk-based screening programme for occult paroxysmal atrial fibrillation, involving extended cardiac monitoring in adults with CHA2DS2-VASc score of 3 or greater, is cost-effective. 3. To determine the sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value and negative predictive values of self-monitoring of pulse in adults for detection of atrial fibrillation. 4. To determine the cost, cost effectiveness, and budget impact of a risk-based screening programme for occult paroxysmal atrial fibrillation, relative to a control of usual care in general practice.
This study aims to explore the feasibility of a novel, patient-specific algorithm for adjusting warfarin doses during chronic anticoagulation therapy. Specifically investigators are interested in determining whether patients can use this algorithm to assume responsibility for managing their own warfarin therapy including making independent decisions about their warfarin dose and when to retest their next international normalized ratio (INR) test based on the result of their current INR result obtained using a point-of-care INR monitor.
The aim of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of a 16 week mindfulness-based coaching program compared to a cardiovascular risk reduction education program. Both groups will undergo 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure monitoring, along with assessments of psychological measures (see bellow) at study baseline, midpoint (8 weeks), and conclusion (16 weeks). In addition, both groups will also undergo 24-hour Holter monitoring assessments at study beginning and conclusion to assess possible episodes of atrial tachyarrhythmia during the assessed interval.
AF and cancer frequently coexist. Since these patients are usually excluded from randomized trials, information on their management and outcome is scarce. Occurrence of relevant clinical events, such as ischemic and hemorrhagic and all-cause mortality and cardiovascular (CV) mortality occurring in patients treated or not with antithrombotic agents needs to be clarified. A prospective observational registry collecting information, in a real world setting, on the clinical profile of patients with these clinical conditions and on the use of antithrombotic drugs in patients with AF and cancer could improve our knowledge on the management of these high risk patients.
