Relationship Analysis Between Periodontal Disease and Atherosclerosis in Japanese Medical Cooperation Services

Objective: We aimed at analyzing the relationship between periodontal disease and atherosclerosis in medical treatment and periodontal treatment under medical and dental care across borders in a local cooperation system of Japanese medical services. Materials and methods: - A prospective multi-center case cohort study was conducted on 37 ambulatory medical patients (with lifestyle-related diseases under consultation in either of the medical clinics registered as collaborative investigation facilities) and 79 periodontal patients (who were seen by the dental clinics registered as collaborative investigation facilities). - Medical treatment and clinical periodontal treatment were provided on the subjects under medical and dental care across borders by each internal medicine and dental clinics. - Systemic examination of lifestyle-related disease and periodontal examination were performed before and after periodontal treatment, and the relationships between periodontal and atherosclerosis-related clinical markers were analyzed before and after periodontal treatment.

Effects of Sitagliptin on Endothelial Function in Type 2 Diabetes on Background Metformin Therapy

The study is being performed to determine whether sitagliptin, a dipeptidyl peptidase-4 inhibitor, both acutely and chronically improves blood vessel function. Patients with type 2 diabetes who are on metformin will be enrolled in this study for up to 22 weeks in this double blinded cross over study where they will receive a sitagliptin pill once a day for 8 weeks and during a separate 8 weeks receive a matching placebo pill. The treatment periods are divided by a 4 week period. Blood vessel function will be measured by ultrasound before and after a single dose of sitagliptin and placebo, as well as after 8 weeks of treatment with each. Blood will also be taken to measure blood markers of inflammation at each time the ultrasounds are performed.

Study to Determine the Effect of Repeated Administration of Diltiazem on the Pharmacokinetics of Darapladib (Sb-480848).

Darapladib (SB-480848) is a novel, selective, orally active inhibitor of lipoprotein associated phospholipase A2 (Lp-PLA2) currently under clinical development by GlaxoSmithKline as a potential anti-atherosclerosis agent for reduction of major adverse cardiovascular (CV) events in patient populations with chronic coronary heart disease and after an acute coronary syndrome. This study will determine the effect of repeated administration of diltiazem on the pharmacokinetics of a repeated administration of darapladib. A drug interaction study with a moderate CYP3A4 inhibitor is warranted to provide guidance to prescribing physicians.

Effects of L-thyroxine Replacement on Serum Lipid and Atherosclerosis in Hypothyroidism

Hypothyroidism is a common clinical entity which is often complicated by dyslipidemia. It is also reported increased risk for incidence of atherosclerosis and resulting coronary heart disease(CHD), heart failure(HF) and cardiovascular(CV) death. The effect of L-thyroxine replacement treatment on serum lipid and atherosclerosis is controversial in hypothyroid patients, especially in those with mild or moderate subclinical hypothyroidism. The present study was designed to investigate whether L-thyroxine replacement was effective in improving serum lipid profiles and retarding atherosclerosis progress. Studies have shown that hypothyroidism increased the risk of COVID-19 composite poor outcomes. This study also aimed to investigate whether L-thyroxine replacement therapy was effective in reducing the incidence and mortality of COVID-19, and in improving the severity of COVID-19 and COVID-19 related complications.

Effect of L-Thyroxine on Lipid Profiles and Atherosclerosis in Subclinical Hypothyroidism

The present study was designed to evaluate the effect of L-thyroxine treatment in SCH on lipid profile, atherosclerosis, endothelial function, serum inflammatory factors and adipocytokines.
