Filter by:Problem solving based intervention involving the workplace has shown promising effects on return-to-work among persons with common mental disorders. A key element is cooperation between the person on sick leave, the participant's employer and health care professionals. The aim of the present study is to evaluate the effects of a problem solving based intervention in the Swedish primary health care system on an employed population on sick leave due to common mental disorders. Cluster randomized controlled trial. The investigators hypothesize that: Participants who have undergone the work-related problem solving based intervention will have fewer total days on sick leave than the participants who receive treatment as usual at 18 months. Participants who receive the work-related problem solving based intervention will have fewer recurrent periods of sick leave than the participants who receive treatment as usual at 18 months. Participants who receive the work-related problem solving therapy intervention will score better on the secondary outcomes than the participants in the control group. Population: Employed, aged 18 - 59, on short-term sick leave (min. 2 - max. 12 weeks) due to common mental disorders. Intervention: Work-related problem solving based intervention in addition to treatment as usual. The intervention will be given by rehabilitation coordinators on max. five occasions and includes: making an inventory of problems and/or opportunities related to return-to-work; identifying the support needed to implement the solutions; a meeting with the person on sick leave, his/her employer and the rehabilitation coordinator to discuss solutions; making an action plan and evaluation. Control: The control group will receive care as usual (i.e. cognitive behavioral therapy and/or medical treatment, and meeting with a rehabilitation coordinator if this is a part of care as usual at the primary health care centre). A total of 220 persons on sick leave and 30 rehabilitation coordinators will be included. Primary outcome: total number of days on sick leave at 18 months after baseline. A parallel process evaluation will be conducted to examine: to what extent it is possible to implement problem-solving therapy according to the protocol; the relationship between the key elements of problem-solving intervention and the effect outcome; how the participants perceive the intervention.
The purpose of this study is to determine the clinical efficacy and neuro-cognitive mechanisms of Gaze-Contingent Usic Reward Therapy for social anxiety disorder, compared with treatment with SSRIs or waitlist control.

Paroxetine is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) and paroxetine IR tablets have been approved for the treatment of three anxiety indications in China. This bioequivalence study will evaluate Paroxetine IR tablets manufactured in GSKT (A) and Mississauga (B) sites in healthy Chinese subjects under fasting and fed conditions to support the quality consistency evaluation. This is a single dose, open-label, randomized, two-period crossover study and will include a screening period (up to 7 days), two open-label treatment periods (up to 16 days) and a follow-up phase (up to 14 days after last-dose). The whole study will be divided into two groups, one for fasting condition enrolling approximately 36 subjects and another for fed condition for which approximately 44 subjects will be enrolled. In both groups, eligible subjects will be randomized to receive single dose of Paroxetine IR tablets A or B in a cross-over manner.

Primary objective of this new study is to demonstrate a link between heart rate variability and reduced anxiety during relaxation session.
Depression is a psychiatric disorder that affects mood, thoughts and is usually accompanied by physical annoyances. It affects the person's eating habits, his sleep, the way he sees himself and the way he thinks and understands. Depressed emotion has great tension, lasts longer and leads to a reduction in the person's functioning in many areas of his life. Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) is the psychiatric disorder characterized by a multitude of diverse organic responses as well as a generalized, persistent and indeterminate anxiety that covers almost all of the individual's activities. It is a diffuse and intense negative mood and anxiety that is present for most of the day and whose exact causes are often undetectable.
As mental disorders constitute a core health care challenge of the 21th century, increased research efforts on preventive interventions are indispensable. In the field of clinical psychology, indicated preventive interventions targeted to those with initial symptomatology appear particularly promising. Applied relaxation (AR) is a well-established intervention technique proven to effectively reduce tension/distress, anxiety and depressive symptoms in the context of treatment of a wide variety of manifest mental disorders as well as somatic illnesses. However, it has not been studied so far whether AR as indicated preventive intervention in subjects with initial symptomatology but no full-threshold mental disorder yet is capable to prevent a further symptom escalation. This randomized controlled trial in subjects with elevated tension/distress, anxiety or depressive symptomatology aims to investigate whether an AR intervention (10 sessions à 60 min) can (a) effectively reduce present psychopathological symptoms as well as (b) prevent a further symptom progression to full-threshold DSM-5 mental disorders. Putative mediators (physiological, emotional, cognitive and behavioral changes including heart rate and heart rate variability, hair and salivary cortisol secretion, affectivity, self-efficacy, internal locus of control and cognitive / behavioral coping) and moderators (sex, age, symptom severity at baseline and homework adherence during the intervention course) of the intervention/preventive efficacy will be additionally studied. Predictor and outcome measures will be assessed both conventionally (via personal interview, questionnaires and physiological measures during the respective main assessment) and with ecological momentary assessments (EMA, applied via smart phone over a 1-week interval following the respective main assessment) in everyday life.
The aim of the study is to evaluate the effectiveness of a digitalized cognitive-behavioral treatment for anxiety among school aged children. The participants are screened from the general population, as a part of the routine school health care check-ups. Half of the children with anxiety will receive the digitalized treatment program, while the other half will receive education about anxiety in internet.
Anxiety and depression are highly prevalent and disabling conditions that frequently co-occur, and are costly to the individual and society. Despite important advances in our understanding of these disorders, there is a significant unmet need to identify reliable and clinically useful tests that can predict prognosis, inform treatment choice for a given individual, and improve treatment outcomes. The aim of this project is to fill this critical gap by validating a battery of measures including brain imaging, psychophysiology, behavior, and self-report that will reliably assess positive and negative affect, or valence, system functioning in a broad sample of individuals screened for anxiety and depression as part of their routine primary care visits.
The present study seeks to evaluate the clinical utility of repeated transcranial alternating current stimulation (tACS) by assessing long-term, lasting changes in oscillatory activity and subsequent changes in related behavioral processes of anxious arousal and sensory sensitivity. To date, only transient effects of tACS have been reported, lasting no longer than 30 to 70 minutes. In order to be truly impactful within a clinical setting, however, evidence for long-term effects of tACS is needed.
