Filter by:Preoperative anxiety is a common problem with an impact on surgical outcome, anaesthetic drug dosage and patient's satisfaction. An important component of preoperative anxiety is due to concerns related to anaesthesia. Appropriate patients information has been shown to reduce preoperative anxiety level and this can be effectively achieved through a video. The aim of this study is to assess the impact of an informative video about the anaesthesia technique on patient's preoperative anxiety levels before minor ambulatory procedures. The study design is a prospective, randomized, controlled clinical trial, where we use of short patient educational video to reduce preoperative anxiety level, explaining all sequence of major events between the arrival in the operating room and the performance of anaesthesia.
This study evaluate the effectiveness of the Virtual Reality Educational Program (RVEP) in the Paediatric Surgical Prehabilitation Unit to reduce the perioperative anxiety in children who undergo to elective surgery. Half of the patients will received the virtual reality program, and the other half will received de common treatment.
Investigators will test a novel intervention through experimental therapeutic approach using fMRI-directed Intermittent Theta Burst Stimulation (iTBS), a high frequency TMS paradigm, for the treatment of severe, uncontrollable worry. While worry is a universal human experience, severe and excessive worry has been recently linked to increased risk of stroke and other cardiovascular diseases, increased risk of conversion to Alzheimer's disease as well as to higher risk of all-cause mortality in midlife and late-life. Severe, uncontrollable worry has been repeatedly associated with reduced quality of life and impaired functioning. Current treatment choices (antidepressant/anxiolytic medications and psychotherapeutic interventions) have been proven moderately efficacious in reducing anxiety/depression burden, but ineffective in reducing worry severity, a phenomenon that may contribute to the high relapse rates associated with mood and anxiety disorders. Our research indicated that worry severity is associated with hyperactivation in specific regions such as orbital frontal cortex, superior parietal gyrus, amygdala and parahippocampal gyrus. This pilot study will explore the efficacy of targeting one of these regions with iTBS. Based on investigators' previous results, the most accessible target is the right superior parietal gyrus (rSPG) - a region that remained significantly associated with severe worry after controlling for effects of comorbid depression or overall anxiety. As this region showed an increased in cerebrovascular flow in association with worry severity, investigators will use iTBS (5x/week for 2 weeks) to modulate cortical plasticity in this region and consequently, to reduce worry severity. TMS during wakefulness has been shown to alter subsequent sleep [4], Further, changes in sleep in response to TMS has been associated with how participants respond to the TMS as a treatment [5]. Thus, the study will measure sleep throughout the protocol to determine whether sleep changes as a function of TMS and whether sleep changes are associated with treatment response.
Cancer is an extremely aggressive disease, anxiety and depression are consequences some patients may develop from diagnosis continuing during treatment. A measures control of the cancer is surgery for removal tumor. The surgical procedure is often a difficult experience for patients and their relatives, and patients in the preoperative period are often psychological symptoms of anxiety and depression. A previous study with the objective analyzing patient's emotional repercussion according the type of transport to the surgical center reached the following result: patients who go to the surgical center feel more relaxed in the preoperative period. The primary objective is to analyze emotional repercussion of patient diagnosed with cancer classified in Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG) Performance Status 0 and 1 according type transport to the surgical center.

This study evaluates the efficacy of Camouflage syringe vs Conventional syringe in reducing Dental Anxiety and increasing behaviour rating.Half of the participants received local anesthesia using camouflaged syringe, while others received using conventional syringe.
An interventional research study will be undertaken to assess the effectiveness of the promotion at the local level of an e-health tool for suicide and psychological distress prevention (the StopBlues application and website). This trial is a cluster-randomized, parallel group, controlled intervention study with local authorities as the unit of randomization. Local authorities will be randomly assigned to one of the following three arms: local authorities not promoting the e-health tool (control group); local authorities promoting the e-health tool without general practitioners (GPs) involvement; local authorities promoting the e-health tool including GPs' waiting room. The trial will last 24 months and after a 12-month post-randomization period, local authorities from the control group will be allowed for a further 12-month period to launch their promotional campaign supported by the research team through regular contacts and additional technical and financial resources (intensively sustained promotion). This will facilitate the recruitment of clusters as well as their adherence to the intervention during the first 12-month period. The main criterion will be the number of suicidal acts at nine months. Data will be collected both at the local authority level and at the individual e-health tool user level.

This study investigates the effect of high-intense aerobe exercise training (HIIT) and aerobe exercise of low intensity on clinical and physiological parameters (anxiety, activity, cortisol, alpha amylase, heart rate, heart rate variability, spiroergometry) in patients with Music Performance Anxiety (MPA). Half of the patients will receive HIIT, while the other half will receive aerobe exercise of low intensity.
The Influence of 5-HTTLPR and BDNF Polymorphisms on Anxiety and Mood After Acute Exercise. Introduction: The 5-HTTLPR (SLC6A4) and BDNF (Val66Met) polymorphism presents an action on the modulation of human behavior and has received great attention as a risk factor for several psychiatric disorders. In recent years, a growing number of studies have evaluated the association between these polymorphisms and personality traits related to anxiety and depression. Objectives: To determine the frequencies of 5-HTTLPR and BDNF polymorphisms in a college students population; To determine the influence of 5-HTTLPR and BDNF polymorphisms on mood states and anxiety after acute physical exercise. Material and Methods: Four hundred (400) College students will be assessed. In the first phase of the study, the following procedures will be performed: Screening, Aerobic Fitness Assessment (Step Test), Questionnaires (PAR-Q, Habitual Physical Activity Level, Beck Anxiety and Depression Scale, State-Trait Anxiety, and Perceived Stress Scale), blood sample collection and genotyping. In the second phase of the study, two (2) groups with or without polymorphisms will be selected (for each gene). These groups will be submitted to four conditions (three experimental conditions and one control condition), carried out randomly and separated by an interval of 1 week. In the experimental Conditions the volunteers will perform treadmill exercises sessions (30 minutes) in three different intensities (light, moderate and vigorous) and will respond to the Borg Scale at 10, 20 e 30 minutes. In the control condition the volunteers will be instructed to remain seated (quiet rest), relaxed and silent for 30 minutes. In both conditions, the volunteers will complete the Profile of Mood States (POMS) and State-Anxiety (STAY), 05 (five) minutes before and, 5 (five) and 20 (twenty) minutes following the interventions.
