Filter by:The Unified Protocol for Transdiagnostic Treatment of Emotional Disorders in Children (UP-C) is a transdiagnostic and emotion-focused cognitive-behavioral group intervention for children aged 6-12 years old with emotion disorders (i.e., anxious and/or mood disorders) and their parents. UP-C consists of 15 weekly group sessions and unifies cognitive-behavioral, contextual (e.g., mindfulness) and parental training techniques, for parents and children, aimed at reducing the intensity and frequency of strong and aversive emotional experiences in children and their clinical symptomatology. The present study aims to assess the feasibility, acceptability and efficacy of the UP-C in the Portuguese population in reducing children's anxiety/depression symptoms. It also aims to investigate which mechanisms explain the therapeutic change. Participants will be recruited at child mental health services and schools from Central Portugal and also through online dissemination of the study. A randomized controlled trial (RCT) will be conducted in a sample of children aged 6-13 years old with emotional disorders and their parents in order to answer the critical question of whether the UP-C is more efficacious in reducing children's symptomatology than a psychoeducational group intervention (active control group). Once the eligibility criteria are met (assessed by the project researchers) parents and children will be randomly assigned to one of two study conditions: 1. experimental group (i.e., children and parents who benefit from the UP-C program). 2. control group (i.e., children who benefit from a psychoeducational intervention program, named "ABC of Emotions"). Parents and children from both groups will complete several psychometrically robust and developmentally appropriate measures at baseline (T0), mid-treatment (only at week 7 of the UP-C; T1), post treatment (T2) and at 3 months follow-up (T3).
The important role of Emotion Regulation (ER) in managing stress and anxiety is well recognized. Aims: 1) assessing the level of anxiety, and the level of difficulties in emotion regulation (DER) among University Students during COVID-19, 2) investigating the effect of the emotional regulation training program on the anxiety of University Students during the COVID-19. Methods: Part I, students will be assessed for their anxiety, DER, and the general impact of COVID-19 on their lives. The students will complete Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) and Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale (DERS). Part II will be a Randomized Control Trial (RCT) using a pre-assessment and a post-assessment. A voluntary sample of students will randomly assigned to either a group that will receive emotion regulation training or a control group. The training program is an adapted version of DBT skills training. The training program will include mindfulness, emotion regulation, and problem-solving skills through eight 90- min group sessions.

Despite research identifying effective treatments for youth anxiety, parents (and other primary caregivers) are unaware that some treatments are more effective than others. This study investigates whether having a local parent key opinion leader co-facilitate an educational outreach presentation on effective treatment for youth anxiety will increase parent demand for evidence-based practices (EBPs). It is hypothesized that participants who receive a presentation co-presented by a key opinion leader will be more likely to have sought cognitive behavioral therapy for their child at the three-month follow up, relative to participants who receive a presentation presented by two researchers.

The aim of the study is to assess the efficacy of a modified version of the behaviour management technique Latent inhibition in combination with Er:YAG laser for achieving reduction of dental anxiety in paediatric dental patients. The main objectives are to compare dental anxiety felt during the laser and conventional dental treatment. The outcomes will be dental anxiety assessment by a self-reported anxiety during treatment in both group as well as measurement of heart rate dynamics during the procedures.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate, subjectively and objectively, whether playing music during procedures for treatment of chronic lower back pain has an effect on patients' anxiety and pain. The investigators hypothesize that playing music will result in reduced patient reported anxiety and pain scores and less variation from baseline of vital signs versus patients in the control group without music therapy. This is a pilot study.
