Pterygomaxillary Disjunction With Interpositional Y-shape Plate in Patients With Temporomandibular Joint Derangement

Start date: November 1, 2021
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Temporomandibular joint internal derangement (TMJ ID) is the most frequent type of temporomandibular disorder (TMDs)which is managed by different therapeutic modalities. it begins with conservative methods like medical treatment, physiotherapy, thermotherapy, and bites appliance therapy. Surgical intervention is a controversial issue in cases not responding to conservative methods. A novel minimally invasive surgical technique which is extracapsular trans oral (Pterygomaxillary disjunction) has been advocated as a minimally invasive extracapsular technique that preserves TMJ integrity.

Evaluation of the Efficacy of Different Drugs in the Treatment of the Pain in Patients With Temporomandibular Disorder

Start date: July 16, 2019
Phase: Phase 4
Study type: Interventional

The most important step in the treatment of TMJ (temporomandibular joint) disease in clinical dentistry is diagnosis and planning. The clinical findings, drug requirement and biological risk of the patients determine the examination methods to be used in the Treatment of Temporomandibular Joint Disorders. In this context, it is thought that studies in the field of dentistry should be increased in order to increase the success in the treatment of TMJ Disorders. The aim of the study is to evaluate the efficacy of of different pain relievers as Dexketoprofen Trometamol + Thiocolchicoside, dexketoprofen trometamol + paracetamol and Dexketoprofen Trometamol in the treatment of pain in TMJ disorders.

NCT ID: NCT05365932 Completed - Pain Clinical Trials

Evaluation of an Intra Auricular Device as a Treatment for Painful Temporo-Mandibular Disorders

IAD
Start date: November 29, 2018
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Background: An innovative, non-invasive, and reversible Intra Auricular Device (IAD) has recently been introduced to treat temporomandibular muscle and joint disorders.Aim: To evaluate the effects of the IAD on pain, psychosocial domain and Pressure Pain Threshold (PPT) of masticatory muscles in patients with TMD pain. Methods: Ten subjects with TMD pain and with pain intensity higher than 30 mm on a VAS scale were included in the study. Patients received the IAD and counselling. Assessments included questionnaires of the DC/TMD Axis II questionnaires (Characteristic Pain Index, Interference, Jaw Functional Limitation Scale, Patient Health Questionnaire 9, Patient Health Questionnaire 15, Generalized Anxiety Disorder scale, Oral Behavior Checklist and Oral Health Impact Profile-22, Axis I clinical examination and PPTs at baseline (T0), after one month (T1), three months (T2) and six months (T3) from the first use of the device. PPTs were measured at anterior temporalis muscles, masseter muscles and right thenar as a control site. The Shapiro-Wilk test was used for the normal distribution of data. The difference among the longitudinal timepoints for variable was analysed with ANOVA. Statistical significance was accepted at p < 0.05.

NCT ID: NCT05352438 Completed - Clinical trials for Temporomandibular Disorder

Manual Therapy and Splint Therapy in Patients With Temporomandibular Dysfunction

Start date: January 21, 2019
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The aim of this study was to compare the efficacy of splint treatment and manual therapy in patients diagnosed with myofascial temporomandibular dysfunction with bruxism.

NCT ID: NCT05240703 Completed - Clinical trials for Temporomandibular Disorder

Stabilization Splint Treatment of TMD

TMD
Start date: March 1, 2008
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The aim of this randomized controlled trial was to assess the efficacy of stabilization splint treatment on TMD-related facial pain and oral health-related quality of life during a one-year follow-up. Eighty TMD patients were randomly assigned to two groups: splint group (n=39) and control group (n=41). The patients in the splint group were treated with a stabilization splint and received counseling and instructions for masticatory muscle exercises. The controls received only counseling and instructions for masticatory muscles exercises. The outcome variables were the intensity of facial pain (as measured with visual analogue scale, VAS), patients' subjective estimate of symptoms and treatment outcome, as well as Oral Heath Impact Profile (OHIP)-14. The differences in variables between the groups at each follow-up points (1 month, 3 months, 6 months and 1 year after baseline) were analyzed using regression models. Group status and presence of psychosocial symptoms were included as the explanatory factor and baseline VAS, gender, age, length of treatment and general health status as confounders.

NCT ID: NCT05138354 Completed - Clinical trials for Temporomandibular Disorder

Standard Care With LLLT & Myofascial Release Versus Standard Care Alone in Pregnant Women With Temporomandibular Disorder

Start date: February 18, 2021
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

This study will investigate a novel approach to treat pregnant women with tempromandibular disorder using a combined method of low level laser therapy, myofascial release and standard care versus standard care alone. It's hopeful that the results of this study can fill the gap of knowledge surrounding the conservative treatment options for TMD in order to help patients restore their oral function properly and promote new ways of addressing TMD.

NCT ID: NCT05091996 Completed - Clinical trials for Temporomandibular Disorder

The Use of Manual Muscle Relaxation Techniques in the Treatment of Temporomandibular Joint Disorders

Start date: June 2016
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The aim of the study was to compare the degree of relaxation of the anterior part of the temporal muscles and the masseter muscles achieved with the use of post-isometric relaxation and myofascial release methods in patients requiring prosthetic treatment due to temporomandibular joint disorders (TMD) with a dominant muscular component. The study included 60 patients, both sexes, aged between 19 and 40. The patients who met the inclusion criteria were alternately assigned to one of the two study groups: I group consisted of the patients received post-isometric relaxation treatment (PIR), II group - patients received myofascial release treatment (MFR). Each group consisted of 30 subjects. The series of ten treatments were performed in both groups. The comparative assessment was carried out based on the data obtained from the physical examination, physiotherapeutic examination of the masticatory system, surface electromyography (sEMG) of anterior temporal and masseter muscles and the data on the intensity of spontaneous masticatory muscle pain assessed using the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS).

NCT ID: NCT05077189 Completed - COVID-19 Clinical Trials

Temporomandibular Joint and COVID-19

Start date: December 1, 2020
Phase:
Study type: Observational [Patient Registry]

There is evidence that CV-19 is associated with joint symptoms, but there are no specific data on the temporomandibular joint (TMJ). It is also known that the systemic health status can impact the immune system. Given all this, this study aimed to investigate the effect of CV-19 and systemic health status, as determined by the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) Physical Status Classification System 12, on TMJ in patients with TMJ complaints using the DC/TMD scale.

the Relationship Between Parafunctional Habits, Pain and Functional Limitation of the Jaw

Start date: April 25, 2021
Phase:
Study type: Observational [Patient Registry]

Temporomandibular disorders affect the general health and quality of life of individuals by causing deterioration in orofacial function and cause functional limitation. The use of Diagnostic Criteria for Temporomandibular Disorders (DC-TMD) is recommended for evidence-based evaluation of jaw joint disorders for clinical and research purposes. The aim of this study is to show the factors affecting the functional limitation of the jaw and to evaluate the relationship between the pain, Oral Behavioral Checklist and the Jaw Functional Limitation Scale (JFLS-8), using the Diagnostic Criteria for Temporomandibular Disorders (DC-TMD). 75 patients with temporomandibular disorder (TMD) who will apply to the outpatient clinic of Istanbul Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Training and Research Hospital will be included in our study. DC/TMD Axis I TMD Pain Screener Questionnaire, TMD Symptom Questionnaire, DC/TMD Axis II assessment tools 'Jaw Functional Limitation Scale-8 (JFLS-8) and Oral Behavioral Checklist (OBC) will be applied. In addition, demographic data will be questioned.

NCT ID: NCT04948541 Completed - Pain Clinical Trials

Effect Of Sleep Apnea Treatment On Temporo-Mandibular Disorders

Start date: April 21, 2021
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Aims of this research are to detect if an improvement in sleep pattern in patients suffering from obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), produces a reduction in pain and dysfunction in the orofacial area by examining variation in temporo-mandibular disorder (TMD) signs and symptoms and if the prevalence of TMDs in OSA patients controlling this disease decreases to levels comparable to healthy subjects. 41 OSA patients will undergo a complete TMD examination prior to start any OSA treatment and after at least 18 months of therapy. Variations in TMD signs and symptoms will be recorded.
