Previous research has demonstrated the effectiveness of AFFRONEYE® / CROCUVIS+® dietary supplement, based on saffron extract, in the proper functioning of visual health, for example, against the development of glaucoma. The main objective of this study is to compare the results of clinical tests that evaluate signs and symptoms for the diagnosis of dry eye, between two groups (some that take the dietary supplement and others a placebo), in a sample of university workers and students who suffer from dry eye.
Over the past two decades, there has been an increase in the number of people with nutrition related maladies due to changes in their dietary habits and lifestyle. Cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, metabolic syndrome, obesity, and cancer have emerged as prominent contributors to both illness and death, particularly as the population continues to age. The mortality figures for cardiovascular disease and diabetes varied between 179.8 to 765.2 per 100,000 individuals, with the most elevated rates observed in poor nations. The occurrence of metabolic syndrome was markedly prevalent, spanning from 19% to 45%. The incidence of overweight and obesity (defined by a body mass index ≥25 kg/m2) has surged to concerning levels across many countries in the region, ranging from 25% to 82%, with a higher occurrence among women. Due to side effects of allopathic treatments and increase in nutrition knowledge people are more inclined to natural therapies. Subsequently, corn silk with nutraceutical properties may provide an effective alternative therapy to alleviate symptoms and decrease healthcare loss. Cornsilk, the often-overlooked byproduct of maize cultivation, is rich in bioactive compounds, including flavonoids, polysaccharides, and vitamins, cornsilk has shown promising effects in promoting health and wellness.
Short bowel syndrome (SBS) is a rare but challenging condition in which patients have insufficient bowel length to meet fluid, electrolyte, and nutrient requirements without parenteral support. The purpose of this study is to determine how well dietary fiber is tolerated in patients with short bowel syndrome compared to patients without short bowel syndrome based on assessment of gastrointestinal symptoms, and corresponding changes in microbiome composition and metabolomics.
Low back pain can persist in some patients with history of back surgery. In some cases, an increase in pain may even occur, and chronic pain may make treatment more difficult. A component of chronic pain is neuropathic pain, and its specific evaluation and treatment is important. Low back pain and radicular pain in the lower extremities are the main symptoms of failed back surgery syndrome (also called persistent spinal pain syndrome in new terminology). There are many methods for treatment of failed back surgery syndrome, such as analgesic medications, physical therapy, interventional pain treatment applications, and re-surgery options. Epidural pulsed radiofrequency therapy has recently become popular among interventional pain management procedures, and studies on its effectiveness are increasing. However, studies with a multifaceted approach that also evaluate neuropathic pain are lacking in the literature. In this study, it was planned to investigate the effect of epidural pulsed radiofrequency therapy on pain palliation, including neuropathic pain, in patients diagnosed with failed back surgery syndrome.
The Kamath and Stothard clinical questionnaire for diagnosing carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is a valid score for diagnosis of CTS. However it haven't been translated in to Thai version and the validity and accuracy of the Thai the Thai version have not been yet verified. The research team recognizes the importance and potential benefits of adapting this assessment for use within the Thai population. Therefore, we aim to conduct this research to translate the questionnaire from the original English to Thai and to assess its validity and reliability for diagnosing patients with Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.
The effectiveness of various external applications (strapping and splinting) on grip strength, pain intensity, symptom level, and functional status in carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) has been compared in this study. Comparative testing was conducted with exercise and mobilization applications (carpal bone mobilization, yoga, tendon and nerve gliding exercises, neurodynamic mobilization, instrument-assisted soft tissue massage, and standard soft tissue massage) in control groups, placebo groups, and groups undergoing other non-surgical treatments (orthotic application, steroid injections, and other physical agents). Criticisms regarding these studies include bias, lack of blinding, and small intergroup differences. In the literature, evidence supporting the beneficial effects of splinting and strapping applications on CTS is reported to be of low quality, emphasizing the need for higher-quality studies. In light of the information obtained, this study aims to compare the effects of different external applications (strapping and splinting) on grip strength, pain intensity, symptom level, and functional status in CTS.
There are a limited number of studies on the use of ozone in CTS.The aim of this clinical study is to compare the effectiveness of corticosteroid injections and ozone injections added to splint and exercise therapy in mild-moderate CTS patients.. 106 patients included in the study were randomized and divided into three groups. During the follow-up, a total of 90 patients, 30 patients in each group, completed the study.
Three recent prospective "transplant/no transplant" studies concluded to an advantage of OS with transplantation in patients with high or intermediate-2 IPSS risk (not significant in Kröger's study). No prospective randomized trial has assessed the pre-transplant therapy in MDS patients yet but some information can be extracted from these 3 recent studies. In the French study (n=162), 72% patients with a donor received HSCT, previously treated by hypomethylating agent (HMA) in 71% of them. There was a trend to a better survival in patients achieving a complete remission with pre-graft therapy (HR: 0.55, p=0.088) and higher risk of death in unresponsiveness patients transformed into AML (HR: 2.36, p=0.008). In Nakamura's study (n=384), 83% of patients with a donor were transplanted, previously treated by HMA in 68%2. The multivariable Cox model for Overall Survival (OS) and Leukemia-free survival showed an excess risk in patients treated by HMA. Moreover, responders still have a higher risk of mortality as compared to patients who did not receive any pre-graft therapy (HR: 2.417, p=0.0054). In the German study, the aim was to initiate azacytidine at inclusion and to transplant patients after 4 cycles if a donor was identified1. Among 170 registered patients, 162 initiated 5-aza but 36% of them were "lost during this pre-graft therapy" before allocation to "donor" or "no-donor" arm, for different reasons including death (n=12). After 4 cycles of 5-aza, 79/81 patients "donor arm" were transplanted. The multivariable analysis showed remission status did not influence OS. Those 3 previous clinical trials thus suggest that a substantial number of patients planned for transplantation are not transplanted nowadays while no evidence of HMA benefit before HSCT has been clearly identified. This phase 2 study aim to assess the feasibility of upfront HSCT in patients with high risk MDS in order to increase the probability to be transplanted and to achieve a subsequent remission and better survival.
Down's Syndrome is due to the chromosomal disorder in 47 chromosomes instead of 46, socalled as Trisomy 21. The syndrome has several clinical symptoms including Cardiovascular, neurological, orthopedic, hormonal, cognitive and visual perceptual impairments. These childrenhave Developmental Delay. Children have hypermobility of joints, hypotonicity or ligamentous laxity, light to moderate obesity, due to underdeveloped respiratory and cardiovascular systemandshortstaturewhichleadtodecreaseinfunctionalambulation.Due to the low level of physical fitness, theseindividuals shows limitation in performing the functional tasks of daily living. The fundamental motor skill is Walking that facilitates the child to interact with the environment and helps indeveloping, social, motor and cognitive skills. Due to their delayed milestones and due to the irintellectual disability, environmental exposure is limited which hampers this fundamental skill.Hence it is necessary to asses the functional ambulation in these children. This is a Randomized Controlled Trial that will be conducted in Rising Sun Institute Of Special Children. 26 participants will be allocated randomly into 2 groups Group A will receive the conventional interventions of Down's Syndrome but the group B will receive the mobility training with Standardized Walking Obstacle Course (SWOC). Tool used for this research will be a Standardized Walking Obstacle Course (SWOC) (that is used to measure stability and speed during gait in terms of time, number of steps, number of stumbles and number of steps off the path for each participant) and Timed up and go test (Valid for the functional mobility assessment of the children with DS). The data will be analyzed by SPSS version 21
