NCT ID: NCT03758131 Not yet recruiting - Clinical trials for Substance Use Disorders

Peer MI in FQHCs for Substance-using Emerging Adults

Start date: August 2019
Phase: Phase 2
Study type: Interventional

The main purpose of this study is to test whether a Peer-Enhanced Motivational Interviewing (PMI) intervention, which has been successful with college students, results in superior alcohol and marijuana use outcomes for emerging adults (EA), ages 18-29, who are clients of Federally-qualified Health Centers, and their peers. In the first phase of the study, seventy-five peer dyads (total n = 150, ntarget client = 75, npeer = 75) will be randomized to receive either Peer-Enhanced Motivational Interviewing (PMI), Motivational Interviewing only (MI) or Waitlist Control (WC.) In the second, expanded phase of the study, an additional 325 peer dyads (total n = 650, ntarget client = 325, npeer = 325) will be randomized to receive either Peer-Enhanced Motivational Interviewing, Motivational Interviewing only (MI) or Waitlist Control.

NCT ID: NCT03758053 Active, not recruiting - Clinical trials for Alcohol Use Disorder

Adverse Childhood Experiences in Substance-related Disorders

Start date: December 15, 2018
Phase:
Study type: Observational

Aversive childhood experiences (ACE) and their relation to the development of an alcohol use disorder will be measured with fMRI.

NCT ID: NCT03758027 Completed - Substance Abuse Clinical Trials

CARESS: An Investigation of Effects of CARESS

Start date: October 30, 2018
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The purpose of this research is to study the efficacy of an intervention that could interrupt the cycle of emotion dysregulation as it relates to cravings and negative emotions for those with problematic substance use behaviors. This will be a quantitative randomized control trial study with data collection at three points: pre-intervention, post-intervention, and same-day follow up. This study will be conducted at the Inova Behavioral Health Merrifield Center. Inova's addictions services program is the CATS program (formerly comprehensive addiction treatment services), which provides therapeutic interventions for those managing substance use disorders. The focus of measurement will be about the current state of the participant, and not a cumulative status. This one-session intervention. The goal is to have 96 participants in the study, 48 in each of the two groups.

NCT ID: NCT03757559 Completed - Abuse, Drug Clinical Trials

A Trial to Evaluate the Abuse Potential of 3 Doses of GRT6005 in Adult Non-dependent Recreational Opioid Users

Start date: April 15, 2013
Phase: Phase 1
Study type: Interventional

The primary objective of this study was to evaluate the abuse potential of single doses of cebranopadol (GRT6005) relative to hydromorphone (immediate-release formulation [IR] and placebo in 48 non-dependent recreational opioid users. Secondary objectives were to evaluate the abuse potential of hydromorphone IR compared to placebo (trial validation), to evaluate the safety and tolerability of single doses of cebranopadol (200, 400, and 800 micrograms), and to evaluate pharmacokinetics (PK) of cebranopadol and optionally some of its metabolites.

NCT ID: NCT03753737 Completed - Clinical trials for Substance Use Disorders

Personality Disorders and Substance Use Disorders in a Sexual Context in the Man Having Sex With Other Men Population

PSYCHEMS
Start date: November 22, 2018
Phase:
Study type: Observational

Chemsex refers to the use of psychoactive drugs in a sexual context, mainly cathinones, GHB/GBL, methamphetamine, cocaine and ketamine. This can cause infectious or psychiatric complications, addictions, and often goes with high risk sexual behaviours. Recent studies have highlighted the relationship between personality disorders, substance use disorders and risky sexual behaviours. It is important to understand the factors associated with chemsex in order to offer adapted prevention and care plans. The study hypothesis is that personality disorders, evaluated with the PDQ-4+ questionnaire, are more frequent among man having sex with other men with a substance use disorder linked to chemsex than among man having sex with other men who have never practised chemsex.

NCT ID: NCT03751020 Completed - Depression Clinical Trials

Development and Preliminary Trial of a Brief, Portable Health Intervention for Rural Sexual Minority Emerging Adults

Project LEAP
Start date: October 27, 2017
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The purpose of this study is to test the feasibility of writing interventions specifically designed for lesbian, gay, and bisexual (LGB) emerging adults (ages 18-29) that are aimed at improving the outcomes: depression, suicidality, substance abuse and HIV risk behaviors.

NCT ID: NCT03750487 Completed - Substance Use Clinical Trials

Home Visitation Enhancing Linkages Project

HELP
Start date: December 1, 2020
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

A small pilot randomized controlled trial (RCT) will be conducted to test the impact of an electronic screening and brief intervention (e-SBI) on reduction in substance use (measured via self-report), associated symptoms (depression and parenting stress), and improvement in home visiting retention and substance use treatment engagement. While a pilot RCT was originally planned, the study experienced significant delays and recruitment challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, after review by the DSMB and study sponsor, the decision was made to eliminate the randomization and assign all participants to the intervention condition to evaluate feasibility and acceptability of the intervention.

NCT ID: NCT03746756 Completed - Clinical trials for Substance Use Disorders

Recovery Management Checkups for Primary Care Experiment

RMC-PC
Start date: October 1, 2017
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

National data show that only 8% of people with past-year substance use disorders (SUD) received any treatment for these disorders in the past year, resulting in high costs, both in terms of their own health and functioning and costs to society. Pilot work demonstrates that the proposed intervention has the potential to significantly increase SUD treatment engagement among patients with SUD within Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs), and thereby reduce substance use and other related consequences. This project is being done in close collaboration with several FQHC providers to facilitate the potential for subsequent dissemination to other FQHCs and primary care settings.

NCT ID: NCT03745339 Recruiting - Clinical trials for Opioid-Related Disorders

Outcome Inference in the Sensory Preconditioning Task in Opioid-Use Disorder

Start date: June 7, 2019
Phase:
Study type: Observational

Background: People with addictions often find it hard to choose the long-term benefits of abstinence over the short-term effects of using drugs. Researchers think this is partly due to parts of the brain involved in certain types of learning and decision-making. Researchers want to test these basic functions using a simple task with pictures and odors. Objective: To see if performance in a learning task differs between people who have opioid-use disorder and people who don t. Eligibility: Adults 21-60 years old who are willing to fast for at least 6 hours and smell food odors. Those with an opioid-use disorder must either not use for at least 3 weeks or be in treatment. Design: Participants will have 1 visit that will take up to 5 hours. Before the visit, participants will be asked to not eat or drink anything except water for at least 6 hours. At the visit, participants will be checked for signs of intoxication. Participants will give urine and breath samples. Participants will have tests of learning and behavior. They will look at shapes on a computer screen. The shapes will be paired with different food odors. The odors will come from a sterile tube placed under the nose. Participants will have their breathing monitored with a belt around the upper abdomen. About 30 days and 60 days later, participants will be called and asked about their drug use over the past 30 days. ...
