The accumulation of external and internal stress has been completely correlated with the predisposition to psycho-emotional problems and, in turn, to drug use as an immature response for ego protection. That is why the economic, social, and psychological evaluation can help understand the current situation about drug abuse and how to help patients afflicted by it. The added stress of personal problems, work alterations, daily life in a pandemic, economic and varied responsibilities, and the understanding of the pandemic have predisposed and amplified the use of drugs to reduce emotional distress perceived by individuals. The hypothesis of this study is that the increment of stress and a lack of preparation for the pandemic are associated with increased drug abuse.
The Houston Emergency Response Opioid Engagement System for Youths and Adolescents (Young HEROES) is a community-based research program integrating assertive outreach, medication for opioid use disorder (MOUD), behavioral counseling, and peer recovery support. The objective is to compare differences in engagement and retention in treatment for individuals with opioid use disorder. The investigators also intend to understand the prevalence of opioid overdoses and OUD among youth in Houston.
The overarching goal of the study is to develop, pilot, and evaluate an intervention that aims to retain patients who initiate buprenorphine at Denver Health in ongoing treatment for opioid use disorder.
Methamphetamine (MA) addiction has become a crucial public health issue due to its adverse effects. Acupuncture has been used for drug detoxification for many years. However, some disadvantages are not be suitable for MA users. The advantages of laser acupuncture includes safety, painless, less time consuming and higher acceptability without current investigation. Therefore, investigators arrange this study to evaluate the efficacy of laser acupuncture combined with golden treatment of cognitive group therapy.
The investigators are conducting a randomized controlled trial to assess the impact of Resiliency in Stressful Experiences (RISE) - a comprehensive trauma-based program for young men releasing from a southeastern state's prisons. The investigators are assessing whether treating trauma and providing other transitional supports - such as employment assistance - as young men return home will help to improve their community stability and enhance their psychological well-being, in turn, resulting in less likelihood that a person will become incarcerated in the future.
This trial is a randomized, double blind, controlled pilot study that will compare bilateral theta burst stimulation (TBS) and sham treatment for patients with opioid use disorder (OUD) and Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) experiencing suicidality.
While motherhood is central to the design of maternal integrated substance use treatment programs, "evidence-based" parenting interventions tailored to the needs of the population are rare. Stakeholder engagement has revealed that the evidence-base is not reflective of the needs of client population. With 34 ECD programs in Ontario, ECD programs are unique position to pilot Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch Up (ABC) and see if it is a good fit for their clients and if it is effective and feasible. ABC is 10-week evidence-based parenting intervention for parents who live in the context of complex risk, including mental health, addictions, child welfare involvement, and poverty. Investigators of this project will complete a open label mixed method feasibility pilot study involving active implementation of ABC that will involve: 1. exploration facilitators and barriers of the year-long implementation and training process and 2. exploration of changes in maternal mental health, substance use and parenting outcomes from beginning to end of treatment. Results of this mixed method pilot study will inform a larger trial with a control group and support a funding application to support its completion.
The purpose of this study is to see if providing participants with pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) medicine right away at the IDEA Exchange will help participants remain in HIV negative.
The juvenile justice (JJ) system serves over a million cases every year and represents the primary referral source for treatment of substance use and antisocial behavior in youth. However, engagement of the JJ population in treatment is alarmingly low; further, rural communities have neither access to evidence-based practices (EBPs) nor the finances and treatment infrastructure to support their delivery. However, using an innovation called task-shifting, juvenile probation/parole officers in rural communities might be able to deliver a central change mechanism for EBPs (parent activation), with the ultimate goal of improving JJ youth outcomes.
The objective of this pilot intervention study is to iteratively refine motivational interviewing and psychosocial intervention programs delivered via telehealth (Teletx) to help improve substance use and other related outcomes in SUD patients who are not receiving SUD care. We will examine feasibility and acceptability of these pilot psychosocial programs in a total of n=50 participants. The goal is to refine the programs to improve acceptability and feasibility and collect preliminary data for a future fully powered randomized controlled trial (RCT) in the future. In addition to study sessions, participants that are enrolled in the study will complete surveys prior to, during, and after treatment.
