Testing the Integrated mHealth App Intervention "SiS-H"

The present study is a pilot randomized controlled trial (RCT) that seeks to test the feasibility, acceptability, process outcomes, and exploratory outcomes of a newly integrated, app-based smoking cessation treatment (SiS-H, which stands for "Smiling instead of Smoking for people with HIV") for people with HIV who smoke. This treatment will be compared to onboarding to the National Cancer Institute's smartphone app "QuitGuide" (QG). Persons with HIV who smoke and are engaged in HIV clinical care (n=64) will be randomized (1:1) to smoking cessation support via SiS-H vs. "QuitGuide".

Veteran Social Support for Enhancing Use of Smoking Cessation Treatment

This study is recruiting Veterans who currently smoke cigarettes and support persons who are nominated by the Veterans. The purpose of this study is to assist Veterans with smoking cessation by asking Veterans to choose a support person who will assist them with the quitting process, or who may assist them with the quitting process once the Veteran is ready to quit smoking sometime in the future. Study staff will assess how much or how little social support during the Veteran's quitting process is helpful to the Veteran. This information will help us come up with new ways to help Veterans quit smoking that are better tailored to their needs.

This study examines the application of precision treatment intervention for smoking cessation from both the clinician perspective and patient perspective, and compares it to usual care on tobacco treatment in the primary care setting. The precision treatment intervention includes personalized tobacco treatment recommendations using the patient's clinical, genetic, and biomarker information. This approach may increase effectiveness and adherence for the patient, and increase the clinician's likelihood of prescribing.

South Africa Smoking Cessation and Engagement in HIV/TB Care Care

The purpose of this study is to integrate elements from existing interventions developed by our team into a single intervention (QUIT-AD), designed to improve smoking cessation and favorable HIV/TB treatment outcomes among individuals with HIV and/or TB in Cape Town, South Africa. If feasibility, acceptability, and preliminary efficacy are demonstrated, the intervention will be ready for large-scale effectiveness/implementation testing. This program will has the potential to dramatically improve public health by increasing the smoking quit rate and facilitating favorable HIV/TB treatment outcomes among patients with HIV and/or TB in resource limited South African settings.

Ketamine and Motivational Enhancement Therapy for the Treatment of Tobacco Use Disorder

The purpose of the study is to examine whether an investigational medication called ketamine is able to improve treatment outcomes for tobacco use disorder when delivered in conjunction with brief motivational enhancement therapy. Participants will receive ketamine assisted motivational enhancement therapy weekly for three weeks and there will be 2 follow up visits. All visits will also consist of questionnaires and saliva samples will be taken. The overall participation will last approximately 8 weeks.
