Sleep Patterns and Chronotype in Children With and Without Type 1 Diabetes

Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is one of the most common chronic childhood diseases. Recent studies have highlighted the strong association between type 1 diabetes and sleep health problems. Sleep problems have been reported to include sleep onset, sleep maintenance, frequent nighttime awakenings, and daytime sleepiness. Studies show that children with T1D sleep significantly less than their peers without diabetes, and that this is associated with poorer glycemic control in type 1 diabetes due to impaired glucose metabolism. This study aimed to compare sleep health composite dimensions and chronotype in children and adolescents with and without T1D, and to explore the relationship between sleep and glycemic variability in T1D. The study was designed as a prospective observational case-control study. The estimated sample size is calculated as 168. The sleep health composite dimensions were measured using actigraphy, sleep diaries, and self- or parental reports. Sleep disturbance will be assessed using the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual for Mental Disorders (DSM-5) Level 2-Sleep Disturbance Scale Short Form, and the Children's Chronotype Questionnaire will be used to determine the chronotype. Sleep/wake patterns were also assessed using sleep diaries. Glycemic variability was assessed using continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) device parameters.

Prenatal Yoga on Stress, Quality of Sexual Life and Sleep Level

The study will investigate the effects of pregnancy yoga on perceived stress, quality of sexual life and sleep level. A total of 100 pregnant women are planned to be included in the study. Data will be collected with the "Personal Information Form", "Perceived Stress Scale" and "Sexual Quality of Life Questionnaire-Female". Yoga will be applied to the experimental group for a total of 12 sessions, two sessions per week (90 minutes) for six weeks. The research predicts that yoga will reduce the stress perceived by pregnant women, increase the quality of sexual life and positively affect sleep patterns.

Sleep for Optimal MEdical StudentS (PROMESS)

Medical students have been shown to have a greater prevalence of poor sleep leading to poorer quality of life than other groups of students. Among medical students, poor sleep quality and insomnia have been associated with higher level of stress, as well as poorer academic performance. Our field surveys carried out in 2022 and 2023 at the Lyon Est medical school make the same alarming observation. They revealed that 53% of students had significant sleep problems.They also showed that students presented high levels of physical and mental fatigue. It is expected that these disorders will significantly degrade their quality of life as well as their health. Indeed, lack of sleep is associated with serious health problems such as illnesses cardiovascular or immune system deficiencies. The PROMESS - SLEEP project aims to offer solutions to students to improve their sleep during their medical studies. It responds to a demand expressed by students: our field study showed that 40% of 4th year students declared being "very interested and/or interested" in following an intervention that aimed at improving sleep. An early knowledge of sleep optimization tools would allow students to quickly acquire the tools necessary to cope with the difficult conditions encountered during their training and lives of future doctors.The objective of this study is to determine the influence of an intervention program based on sleep improvement and fatigue reduction among medical students.

Cannabidiol and Older Adult Cannabis Users

Cannabis use increased 10 fold among adults over the age of 65 between 2014 and 2016 but very little data exists on the extent of their harmful effects on health and behavior. The overarching goal of this project is to test a novel harm reduction strategy in which older individuals who seek to use cannabis for pain, anxiety or mood problems (depression/anxiety) will be randomly assigned to one of three conditions in an 8 week randomized controlled trial: hemp-derived CBD+THC, hemp-derived CBD-THC, or placebo. This work has the ability to directly inform individual choices regarding the use of cannabis products among older adults, and direct policy decisions regulating cannabis formulations on the legal market.

The investigators will be able to increase the strength of the correlations between LS indices and health indicators. In particular, the investigators will emphasize the relationship between physical activity, stress, and diet quality on one hand, and on the other, they will focus on physiological parameters, like arterial pressure, gluco-lipid profile, and possible pathologies.

The Effects of Mother-Baby Yoga and Baby Massage on Attachment and Sleep

Purpose: This study was conducted to examine the effects of mother-baby yoga and massage on mother-baby bonding and the baby's sleep. Method: A randomised, crossover pilot study was conducted in the postpartum service of a hospital between January and November 2023, with 60 mothers and their babies in the postpartum period, 30 in each group. To the mothers and their babies included in the research, baby massage was applied to one group and mother-baby yoga was applied to the other. After four weeks, the groups' practices were changed. In the results of the research, characteristics related to attachment and sleep were evaluated.

Infant Sleep and Exposure to Mixture of Chemical Environmental Pollutants

During their first year of life, children spend more than half their time sleeping, a function essential to their neurodevelopment. This period of maturation and development of the future adult is considered extremely vulnerable to environmental exposure. During this period, the child's diet is mainly provided by breastfeeding, where persistent chemical substances have been found. A cocktail of 19 mostly persistent substances (POPs) present in breast milk has recently been identified as the main contributor to neurodevelopmental risk. However, the reality of their impact on neurophysiological development, in particular on infant sleep, has yet to be assessed. In this project, the sleep of children under 6 months of age will be studied using an actimetry watch worn for 7 days by the child, accompanied by a sleep diary. Exposure to environmental pollutants will be assessed by measuring their presence in the infant's milk (breastfeeding) and wearing a silicone bracelet to collect air pollutants. A questionnaire on exposure will complement this evaluation.

Cannabis for Palliative Care in Cancer

Many cancer patients suffer from pain, sleep, and mood problems and are using cannabis to relieve these symptoms. Cannabis may provide such relief but may also produce negative side effects including cognitive impairment, an especially problematic issue for cancer patients, indicating more research on cannabis use in the cancer context is required. In this endeavor, the present study seeks to compare the use of hemp-derived CBD (Cannabidiol) with and without THC (Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol) versus placebo on measures of sleep, pain, mood, subjective and objective cognitive functioning, and quality of life within 185 cancer patients.
