NCT ID: NCT04878198 Completed - Clinical trials for Autism Spectrum Disorder

Treatment of Sleep Disturbance in Children With ASD

Start date: December 2, 2022
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

This RCT study aims to compare effectiveness physical exercise and melatonin supplement on treating sleep disturbance in children with ASD. A four-arm randomized controlled trial with equal allocation ratio to the three intervention groups (i.e., jogging; melatonin supplement, combine jogging and melatonin supplement) and one placebo-control group will be conducted . Actigraph device and sleep log will be used for sleep assessment. 6-sulfoxymelatonin from 24-h and first morning urinary samples. The investigators will monitor the changes of four sleep parameters (sleep onset latency, sleep efficiency, wake after sleep onset and total sleep duration) and the 24-h and first morning melatonin level throughout the whole study.

NCT ID: NCT04873661 Recruiting - Pain Clinical Trials

Cognitive Trance, Hypnosis and Meditation in Oncology

Start date: January 1, 2021
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Patients with cancer often suffer from a symptom cluster, including pain, fatigue, sleep difficulties, emotional distress and cognitive impairments. In oncology settings, there is a growing interest in "mind-body" intervention, to relieve them in a non-pharmacological way. Hypnosis and meditation are two modified state of consciousness shown to positively this symptom cluster. Cognitive trance is also a modified state of consciousness, but is induced by body movements and/or vocalizations. Subjective reports of experts in cognitive trance showed a modification of self, emotion regulation, pain perception, attention and concentration. However, we still need to develop studies to better characterise this particular state of consciousness and its clinical applications. Our randomized-controlled trial aims at comparing both interventions in terms of (1) benefits on cancer patients' quality of life (pain, fatigue, sleep, distress, cognitive impairments), (2) phenomenological/subjective experiences and neurophysiological correlates, and (3) mechanisms involved in patients' responsiveness, based on the biopsychosocial model of hypnosis.

NCT ID: NCT04846790 Enrolling by invitation - Depression Clinical Trials

The Effect of a Combined Nature-based and Virtual Mindfulness Intervention on Perceived Stress in Healthcare Workers

Start date: July 16, 2021
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Rationale: Healthcare workers that care for patients with COVID-19 are at increased risk for stress-related symptoms. When these symptoms are chronic, they can result in burnout and other mental health conditions that can exacerbate the current national health crisis. Social distancing can limit the accessibility of mental health services. Feasible and effective interventions are needed to reduce stress-related symptoms and promote resilience in this population, while adhering to federal and local guidelines to mitigate the transmission of SARS-CoV-2. Objectives: To investigate the feasibility and efficacy of a combined nature-based and virtual mindfulness intervention on stress-related symptoms and psychological resilience in healthcare workers that care for patients with COVID-19. Both components are reported to reduce levels of perceived stress and increase psychological resilience; however, the potential additive effect of their combined delivery is unknown. Methods: Ninety healthcare workers will be randomized into one of three groups: Nature+Mindfulness (n=30), Nature only (n=30), and Control (n=30). All participants will undergo assessments at baseline (week 0), post nature intervention (~week 1), and post mindfulness intervention (~week 3). The two intervention groups will have one final assessment at 2-month follow-up (~week 11). Perceived stress is the primary endpoint and will be assessed with the Perceived Stress Scale. Secondary endpoints include sleep quality, burnout, posttraumatic stress, anxiety, depression, mindfulness, self-efficacy, and psycho-social-spiritual healing. Anticipated Results: We anticipate that participants in the Nature+Mindfulness group will have greater reductions in stress-related symptoms and greater increases in psychological resilience compared with the Nature only and Control groups.

NCT ID: NCT04776304 Completed - PTSD Clinical Trials

Art Therapy qEEG Study for Service Members With a Traumatic Brain Injury and Posttraumatic Stress Symptoms

ArtTherapy
Start date: October 30, 2021
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Service members and/or recently separated veterans with post traumatic stress symptoms and mild traumatic brain injury may participate in 8 sessions including 2 sessions including interviews and questionnaires as well as 6 sessions of art therapy. In the art therapy, participants will be provided with a blank paper mache mask template and invited to alter the mask however they wish using a variety of art materials. The therapist will use the art-making process and culminating product to aid in self-reflection, reframe negative thoughts and feelings, and work through traumatic content. Prior to the session start participants will get set up with a mobile qEEG (worn like a hat and backpack). The qEEG will measure brain activity in a non-invasive way throughout the art therapy session to improve understanding of brain activity during the art therapy process.

NCT ID: NCT04771104 Completed - Liver Cirrhosis Clinical Trials

The Effect of Induced Hyperammonaemia on Sleep and Melanopsin-mediated Pupillary Light Response in Patients With Liver Cirrhosis

Start date: January 1, 2017
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Sleep disturbances are common among patients with liver cirrhosis, but the reasons are not well understood. In this project the investigators evaluated whether an increase in blood ammonia in patients with cirrhosis had an impact on sleep quality and the function of retinal ganglion cells measured by pupillary response to blue light.
