Multimedia Educational Program for Patients With Early-Stage Prostate Cancer or Breast Cancer

Cancer Information Service Research Consortium: Years 2006-2011 Program Narrative and Overview

RATIONALE: A multimedia educational program may help patients with newly diagnosed prostate cancer and breast cancer reduce distress, make informed treatment decisions, and improve quality of life. PURPOSE: This randomized clinical trial is studying how well a multimedia educational program works in patients with early-stage prostate cancer or breast cancer.

Evaluation Ultrasound Elasticity/Tissue Strain-Hardening Imaging for Prostate Cancer Patients Undergoing Radical Prostatectomy

A Pilot Trial Evaluation of Ultrasound Elasticity/Tissue Strain-Hardening Imaging for Prostate Cancer in Patients Undergoing Radical Prostatectomy

The primary objective is to perform a pilot trial evaluation of a novel prostate ultrasound imaging software utilizing tissue elasticity measurements to identify tumor foci among men who will undergo radical prostatectomy for localized prostate cancer. As a secondary objective, investigators will compare elasticity measured tumor foci volume to the measured volume from radical prostatectomy pathologic examination.

MRI Targeted Focal Laser Thermal Therapy of Prostate Cancer Followed by Radical Prostatectomy

MRI Targeted Focal Laser Thermal Therapy of Prostate Cancer Followed by Radical Prostatectomy

This is a clinical research study designed to measure the effectiveness of focal Interstitial Laser Thermal Therapy (ILTT) at killing prostate tumours. Patients with "low risk" prostate cancer (Trans Rectal US Guided Biopsy positive) will undergo an MRI scan to try to localize the tumour. If the MRI detects the tumour they will then undergo a perineal ablative procedure (ILTT) under general anaesthetic. Seven days following ILTT they will come back to the hospital for a Radical Retoropubic Prostatectomy (RRP) procedure, which is the removal of a prostate gland through a surgical incision. After removal, the prostate will undergo further analysis to determine the exact location of cancer and evaluate the extent of cancer death caused by ILTT.

Early Detection and Staging of Endobronchial Lung and Pleural Cancer, Airway Injury, and Prostate Cancer

Optical Coherence Tomography for Early Detection and Staging of Endobronchial Lung and Pleural Cancer, Airway Injury, and Prostate Cancer

This study has been designed to utilize already obtained biopsy specimens for investigation of the utility of a new, non-invasive optical diagnostic technique. The study will allow a careful correlation between the Optical coherence tomography findings and conventional histology.

Ultrasound in Treating Patients With Prostate Cancer Confined to the Prostate

Feasibility Study for Organ Confined Prostate Cancer Treatment With HIFU Using SONABLATE System

RATIONALE: Highly focused ultrasound energy may be able to kill cancer cells by heating the tumor without affecting the surrounding tissue. PURPOSE: Phase I trial to study the effectiveness of focused ultrasound energy in treating patients who have prostate cancer that has not spread beyond the prostate.

Apalutamide and Leuprolide in Intermediate and High-risk Prostate Cancer

The Association Between HSD3B1 Genotype and Steroid Metabolism in Normal and Prostate Cancer Tissue of Men With Intermediate and High-risk Prostate Cancer Undergoing Radical Prostatectomy After Treatment With Apalutamide and Leuprolide

This is a research study to test an investigational drug (Not FDA approved), Apalutamide given in combination with Leuprolide acetate (FDA approved) in men diagnosed with high-risk prostate cancer who have already selected to have surgery to remove their prostate gland as part of their treatment plan. The main purpose of this study is to determine how tumors make androgens (male hormones), which makes these tumors more aggressive and resistant to hormonal therapy and how a short period of treatment with Apalutamide and leuprolide acetate prior to surgery can affect the production of these hormones in normal and malignant prostate tissue.

Vitamin E Supplements in Preventing Cancer in Patients at Risk of Prostate Cancer or Who Have Prostate Cancer

A Randomized Study to Investigate the Presence of Tocopherol Metabolites in the Prostate

RATIONALE: Vitamin E supplements may stop or delay the development of prostate cancer in patients who are at risk of prostate cancer or who have prostate cancer. It is not yet known which vitamin E regimen is more effective in preventing prostate cancer. PURPOSE: This randomized phase I trial is comparing vitamin E supplement regimens to see how well they work in preventing cancer in patients at risk of prostate cancer or who have prostate cancer.

Optimizing the Announcement of Advanced or Metastatic Prostate Cancer Using Animated Videos (CartDiag Prostate) - CartDiagPROST

Optimizing the Announcement of Advanced or Metastatic Prostate Cancer Using Animated Videos (CartDiag Prostate)

In hospitals, the standard prostate cancer announcement system is based on oral and written information. To improve this system, we have developed animated videos that retrace the patient's care path. This is an exploratory, controlled, before-and-after, multicenter study designed to assess the effect of a standard announcement system reinforced by animated videos on patients' level of understanding of prostate cancer diagnosis and treatment. Patients' perception of information will be assessed using the EORTC QLQ-INFO25 questionnaire.
