Boston ARCH 4F Intervention to Reduce Fall Risk in People With HIV and Alcohol Use

Boston Alcohol Research Collaboration on HIV/AIDS (ARCH) Frailty, Functional Impairment, Falls, and Fractures (4F) Fall Prevention Intervention Pilot Study

This study is being conducted to assess the acceptability and feasibility of a randomized trial of a 10 week virtual intervention to reduce fall risk in people with HIV who consume alcohol. The hypothesis is that this randomized trial of the fall prevention intervention will be found to be feasible and acceptable in this pilot stage. Standardized assessments will be administered in-person at Boston University Medical Campus to assess various domains including fall risk, fear of falling, physical performance measures (such as grip strength, balance, and gait speed), substance use, and other related measures. The intervention has 3 main components: home exercises, virtual group sessions and weekly phone check-ins. Home exercise will be customized to match the current fitness level of participants. Participants will be asked to complete assigned exercises 3 times per week. Additionally, there will be a weekly virtual group session led by an Occupational Therapist trained in group facilitation via Zoom. The virtual group sessions will be used to help answer any questions and lead a discussion around challenges related to falls. Finally, a member of the research team will check-in with participants once per week to answer any remaining questions that participants have, provide individual feedback on exercises, and set up reminders for the upcoming week. Reminders will be tailored to the individual participant's needs to remind the participant to complete the intervention's components.

Nurse-led Smoking Cessation With Further Follow-up in Lifestyle Centres - a Randomized Pilot Study

Smoking Cessation After a Cardiovascular Disease Event With Hospital-based Nurse-coordination and Further Follow-up Care in Lifestyle Centres With Free Cessation Aids - an Interdisciplinary Randomized Pilot Study

The purpose of this randomized controlled pilot study is to test whether an in-hospital nurse-led smoking cessation intervention increases the refferal rate to healty life-centers in the municipalities. We will also describe the proportion who succeed in quitting smoking between the intervention group and the control group and obtain new knowledge about the patient and system factors of importance for participation to healty life-centers and for successful and unsuccessful smoking cessation.

Effect of Modified Dental Visual Aids on Behavior Management During Dental Treatment in Children With Autism Spectrum Disorder

Effect of Modified Dental Visual Aids on Behavior Management During Dental Treatment in Children With Autism Spectrum Disorder

There is a need to find an approach that is appropriate for managing children with Autism Spectrum Disorder in the dental clinic, to manage their behaviour and decrease their anxiety in this research we will apply our modified dental visual aids and test its effectiveness in managing the behavior of such children during the dental appointment.

Increased CRP Concentrations in Patients Admitted to the Emergency Department With Troponin Elevation Aids to Rule Out Coronary Ischemia

Increased C-reactive Protein Concentrations in Patients Admitted to the Emergency Department With Troponin Level Elevations Aids to Rule Out Coronary Ischemia

The investigators hypothesized that the CRP/troponin ratio measured in patients presenting to the ED with elevated troponin levels could differentiate between patients with cardiac ischemia and those who present due to a systemic inflammatory or infectious disease. The aim of the study was to determine the necessary CRP/troponin ratio required to rule out cardiac ischemia in a large ED population and determine its impact on long-term prognosis.

Effect of Oral Health Education on Oral Health Status, Treatment Needs and Barriers to Care

The Effectiveness of Oral Health Education Using Audio-visual Aids and Frequent Motivation on Oral Health Status, Treatment Needs and Barriers to Care Among Children at Social Homes in Jordan

Jordanian children have very poor oral hygiene parameters, and this is reflected as very high caries prevalence and poor gingival health conditions. This study will focus on children at social homes in the community in order to establish a baseline reference about their oral health status, treatment needs, and barriers to dental care. Also, to report the efficacy of oral health education using audio-visual aids and frequent motivation on oral health status, treatment needs and barriers to care among children at social homes in Jordan.

Capacity Builders Inc. Navajo Youth Builders Personal Responsibility Education Innovation Strategies Project - PREIS

Capacity Builders Inc. Navajo Youth Builders Personal Responsibility Education Innovation Strategies Project Effectively Educating Navajo Youth on the Prevention of Adolescent Pregnancy, Sexually Transmitted Infections, and HIV/AIDS

Capacity Builders (CBI) will implement the Youth Builders PREIS curriculum Native Students Together Against Negative Decisions (Native STAND) which aims to reduce pregnancies, births, and sexually transmitted infections (STI's) including HIV/AIDS among high-risk youth populations by implementing culturally sensitive curriculum based on Navajo positive youth development. The study has two hypotheses: (1) Do students assigned to the Youth Builders program have a greater chance of abstaining from sexual activity (i.e. oral, vaginal and anal) in the last 3 months as compared to students assigned to the comparison group, measured at 12 month and 18 month follow up? (No vaginal sexual intercourse, report abstinence at 12 and 18 random assignment month follow up); (2) Do students assigned to the Youth Builders program have a greater change of abstaining from sex or practicing safe sex (i.e. using a male or female condom, or other means of birth control if they have sex), than students assigned to the comparison group, measured at 12 and 18 months after random assignment? (No sexual activity or use contraception if engage in sex at 12 month and 18 month follow up.

Impact of Shared Decision-Making With Decision Aids on Acoustic Neuroma Treatment Choice: A Randomized Controlled Trial

Impact of Shared Decision-Making With Decision Aids on Acoustic Neuroma Treatment Choice: A Randomized Controlled Trial

Patients with acoustic neuroma had several treatment options. One of standard treatment is to receive the Gamma knife stereotactic radiosurgery, other options included suboccipital craniotomy and conservative treatment. Thus, shared decision making (SDM) is necessary to aid patients to choose an appropriate treatment that suits their needs. The investigators have developed a decision aids (DAs) and plan to conduct a randomized controlled trial (RCT) to evaluate its impact on acoustic neuroma patients. The measurements include a battery of interview-based questionnaires and evaluations of decision regret and post-treatment depression. The investigators expect the DAs would benefit the intervention group in the aspects of knowledge, communication and anxiety status during and after their treatment sessions.

Incidence and Prevalence of Cancer in People Living With HIV/AIDS at Cancer Centers in Latin America

Prospective Observational Study of Site-Specific Incident and Prevalent Cases of Cancer in People Living With HIV/AIDS- in Latin America

This trial studies the frequency of incident and prevalent of cancer in people living with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)/acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) at cancer centers in Latin America. By counting how many people living with HIV/AIDS have cancer at these specific centers, researchers may better understand how they are being treated and cared for. This may help researchers to understand what new studies may be helpful for those areas in the future.
