Comparing the Efficacy of Transforaminal Epidural Injections, Acupuncture and Platelet Rich Plasma Injection in Patients With Sciatica Due to Intervertebral Disc Herniation, Spinal Stenosis and Spondylolisthesis
Disc herniation, stenosis of the spine and spondylolisthesis are the common causes of radiculitis in medical practice today, and can cause symptoms of sciatica. Steroid injection, acupuncture and platelet-rich plasma injection are often used interventions for the treatments of sciatica. The investigators will investigate the efficacy and safety of steroid injection, acupuncture and platelet-rich plasma injection for sciatica in this single center, parallel, randomized-controlled clinical trial.

Efficacy of Acupuncture for Intermittent Claudication of Patients With Lumbar Spinal Stenosis
Degenerative lumbar spinal stenosis (DLSS) is a condition which there is narrowing space of sagittal diameter of spinal canal or nerve root canal for spinal nerve or cauda equina secondary to degenerative changes. DLSS is a common cause of gluteal or lower extremity pain, women and elderly people aged 60-70 are more likely to have DLSS. The early symptoms of this disease are soreness and pain in the low back, gluteal region and posterior region of thighs which can be relieved after resting or changing posture. Being accompanied with gradually aggravated symptoms, patients with DLSS may have neurogenic claudication with hypoesthesia and numbness in lateral lower legs and feet, additionally, few patients may have bowel and bladder disturbances. In accordance of the guidelines of North American Spine Society (NASS), treatment options comprise surgical therapy, epidural steroid injections and physical therapy and transcutaneous electrical stimulation, however, the long-term efficacy of surgery is not superior to that of non-surgical therapy. Moreover, the short-term efficacy of non-surgical therapy is with insufficient evidence. According to a systematic review and recent studies, acupuncture may improve the symptoms of patients and their quality of life, however, there is a lack of placebo-controlled and large sample sized study.

Acupuncture for Hot Flashes in Hormone Receptor-Positive Breast Cancer, a Randomized Controlled Trial
This research study is evaluating acupuncture, a medical therapy in which hair-thin, stainless steel needles are shallowly inserted into specific points to help the body's natural healing process, as a possible treatment to reduce hot flashes.

Efficacy of Acupuncture in Exercise Tolerance in Patients With COPD Controlled, Randomized, Double Blind Study
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is nowadays the 4th cause of death in the world and it´s expected to become the 3rd cause of death in 2020 and the majority cause of morbidity. Besides that, in Portugal COPD patients become more dependents each day. Acupuncture as a reflex therapy it´s carried out through a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) diagnose that will allowed to identify the acupoints. The investigators are interested in to assess acupuncture efficacy on physical exercise tolerance in COPD patients. An experimental, controlled, randomized, double blind study was done. Patients were recruited according TCM diagnose to optimize potential therapeutic effects.

Brain Mechanisms of Video-Guided Acupuncture Imagery Treatment on Chronic Low Back Pain
In this study, the investigators will examine the analgesic effects of acupuncture imagery treatment in patients with chronic low back pain. The intervention used in this study is "video-guided acupuncture imagery treatment" (VGAIT) treatment. The control used in this study is sham (fake) VGAIT. Participants in each group will participate in 8 study sessions (including 6 treatment sessions) over the course of 6 weeks. The primary outcome measure for this study is change in low back pain severity score after each treatment session.

Contribution of Acupuncture on Pain Related to the Screening of Premature Retinopathy (ROP) by Digital Camera
Pain management in premature infants is essential because they are exposed to repeated minor painful procedures such as screening for premature retinopathy (ROP). Acupuncture has shown its analgesic effectiveness in many studies. Laser acupuncture is a simple, fast, side-effect-free method, but no study exists on the contribution of acupuncture in the management of pain caused by the examination of the fundus in addition to conventional therapies (suction, Glucose G30%, anaesthetic eye drops) which are not sufficiently effective. Hypothesis: Laser acupuncture is a medical device that would reduce the pain and discomfort of premature newborns when examining the fundus with a digital camera.
