The Effectiveness of Auricular Acupuncture on Improving Secretion of Saliva Among Institutional Older Population

The Effectiveness of Auricular Acupuncture on Improving Secretion of Saliva Among Institutional Older Population

The study aims to examine the effect of auricular acupuncture on improving oral health in older population. The hypothesis of this study is that older people receiving auricular acupuncture can increase salivary secretion. By identifying the effectiveness of auricular acupuncture can increase salivary secretion; suitable care can be suggested to improve oral health in older population living in long-term institutions.

Ultrasound Examination of Inguinal Lymph Node Used to Evaluate the Effect of Acupuncture on Knee Osteoarthritis

Ultrasound Examination of Inguinal Lymph Node and Knee Joint Slip Fluid Accumulation Was Used to Evaluate the Effect of Acupuncture on Knee Osteoarthritis

Knee osteoarthritis (KOA) is a major public health problem among the elderly and is associated with considerable disability. Previous studies on the pathogenesis of this disease mainly focus on cartilage degeneration, but lack of attention to synovitis lesions, and even believe that it is a secondary change in the pathogenesis of osteoarthritis. In recent years, a large number of studies at home and abroad have pointed out that the occurrence and development of knee osteoarthritis are accompanied by synovitis at each stage, and synovial lesions may be the primary manifestation of knee osteoarthritis and affect the evolution of knee osteoarthritis. To this end, some scholars proposed that synovitis lesions as a starting point, may be a new target for the treatment of knee osteoarthritis.

Effectiveness of Acupuncture Clinical Pathway - ACUPATHWAY

A Retrospective Longitudinal Cohort Study to Determine the Effectiveness of Integrated a Clinical Pathway Approach for Chronic Pain Treatment With Acupuncture in a Pain Clinic

The study will be described the development and implementation of the Clinical pathway (CPW) for acupuncture treatment in the management of patients with some chronic pain conditions. The effectiveness of this CPW will be explored in this study through retrospective analysis of clinical outcomes after administration of acupuncture treatment summarised in the guidelines.

Acupuncture in Pediatrics and Adolescents With Chronic Inflammatory Bowel Diseases

Acupuncture in Pediatrics and Adolescents With Chronic Inflammatory Bowel Diseases

Chronic inflammatory bowel disease (CIBD) with its prevalence of 2.6 million people in Europe is diagnosed in 25% before the age of 18 years. Early remission is intended to improve child growth, quality of life and reduce psychological comorbidities. Additionally to conventional drugs one third of pediatric CIBD patients use alternative treatment strategies. However, there is a lack of evidence of acupuncture as complementary medicine in pediatric CIBD on the disease activity and inflammation. Therefore, the main aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of acupuncture in children with CIBD on the Pediatric Ulcerative Colitis Activity Index (PUCAI) and the Weighted Pediatric Crohn's Disease Activity Index (sPCDAI), which are non-invasive validated instruments to measure the disease activity. Furthermore, this study aims to investigate the effect of acupuncture on chronic pain, quality of life and parameters of inflammation.

Laser Acupuncture and Acupressure for Low Back Pain

Laser Acupuncture Combined With Acupressure Improves Low Back Pain and Quality of Life: a Randomized Controlled Trial

Background: Low back pain (LBP) is a common, huge health and socioeconomic health problem that affects physiological functions and reduces work efficiency in nurses. Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the effect of low-level laser acupuncture combined with acupressure (LAA) on pain intensity, pain interference and life dysfunction in hospital nurses with LBP. Methods: This single-blinded randomized controlled trial enrolled a convenience sample of nurses from one teaching hospital. Seventy-six participants were randomly assigned to the LAA group (n=38) receiving low-level laser acupuncture and auricular acupressure for four weeks, and a control group (n=38) receiving a similar intervention but without laser energy and acupressure. Data were collected using the Short Form of the Brief Pain Inventory (BPI-SF) and Roland-Morris Disability Questionnaire (RDQ) at three time points: baseline before the intervention, and Week 2 and Week 4 during the intervention.

Acunpuncture for Fibromyalgia Syndrome

Acupuncture for Fibromyalgia Syndrome: An Observational Parallel Groups Study

patients suffering from fibromyalgia syndrome according to the criteria of the American College of Rheumatology 2010 will be enrolled. All fibromyalgic patients will be subjected to a further ambulatory visit and if an energy deficiency in the Liver and Spleen Meridians will be identified, according to the Traditional Chinese Medicine rules, acupuncture will be planned. If not, a standard therapy with analgesic drugs will be started. Acupuncture treatment will consist of six weekly sessions. Tricyclic antidepressants, anti-epileptic drugs, selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors and opioids will be used as standard strategy. Pain Scores and Fatigue Impact Scale will be assessed before any treatment and after a 28 days follow-up.

Fatigue as a Late Effect in Breast Cancer Survivors - is Acupuncture a Treatment Option?

Acupuncture for Fatigue in Breast Cancer Survivors: a Study Protocol for a Pragmatic, Mixed-method, Randomised Controlled Trial

The success of treatment of breast cancer has improved, hence the prevalence of survivors have increased. However, experienced late effects from the cancer itself or from cancer treatment is substantial. Anti-cancer treatment can have a number of side effects including nausea, fatigue, vomiting, anorexia and alopecia. Late effects such as cancer related fatigue (CRF) are very persistent. CRF is a common side effect of cancer therapy, and affects the quality of life of patients and their families. It is important to point out that CRF is a form of fatigue that are different from normal fatigue which everyone can experience every now and then. Acupuncture is increasingly used in cancer centers both in the US and Europe, and that patients are positive to using acupuncture. Albeit the emerging evidence for acupuncture and CRF, acupuncture has neither been offered as a treatment for CRF within a Norwegian hospital nor in general practice. Hence the investigators think there is a need for a large randomized controlled trial (RCT) in a Norwegian health care setting.

Effectiveness of Press Tack Needle Acupuncture in Treating Lactation Insufficiency

Effectiveness of Press Tack Needle Acupuncture in Treating Lactation Insufficiency

This study was meant to see the effectiveness of press tack needle acupuncture in improving lactation insufficiency. The acupuncture points used in this study were CV17 Danzhong and SI1 Shaoze. Press Tack Needles were placed in these acupuncture points for 7 days in hope that it will give continuous acupuncture stimulation that might help in improving lactation insufficiency with minimal side effect, less time consuming, and more efficient for the patient.
