Prevalence of HIV +ve Cases With AIDS Defining Opportunistic Infections Among ART Naive Patients Attending ART Centre - ADC

AIDS Defining Opportunistic Infections in Naive HIV Cases

HIV patients are likely to suffer from opportunistic infections, in absence of highly active retroviral therapy. This happens due to lack of awareness of HIV status among patients or unresponsive to anti retroviral drugs. This study is for the prevalence of AIDS defining OIs among treatment naive HIV patients.

Quality Control of CE-Certified Phonak Hearing Aids - 2019_19

Quality Control of CE-Certified Phonak Hearing Aids - 2019_19

Phonak Hearing Systems pass through different development and study stages. At an early stage, feasibility studies are conducted to investigate new algorithms, features and functions in an isolated manner. If the benefit is proven, their performance is then investigated regarding interdependency between all available algorithms, features and functions running in parallel in a hearing aid (pivotal/pre-validation studies) and, as a result, they get optimized. Afterwards, and prior to product launch, the Phonak Hearing Systems undergo a final quality control in terms of clinical trials. This is a pre-validation study, investigating optimized algorithms, features, functions and wearing comfort. This will be a clinical evaluation which will be conducted mono centric at Sonova AG Headquarters based in Stäfa (Switzerland).

Biomedical HIV/AIDS Prevention Program Yunnan - B-HAPPY

Yunnan-ADARC HIV Prevention Program: Developing and Testing a Model to Implement and Sustain PrEP Delivery in China

B-HAPPY is an implementation project to study the process by which pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is introduced and integrated into a specific international health system facing high rates of HIV incidence among men who have sex with men. The study will use a stepped wedge design to compare implementation outcomes across eight municipalities in Yunnan, China.

Comparison of Explicit, Implicit and no Values Clarification Decision Aids for Men Considering Prostate Cancer Screening

Comparison of Explicit Values Clarification Method (VCM), Implicit VCM and no VCM Decision Aids for Men Considering Prostate Cancer Screening: Protocol of a Randomized Trial

The investigators aim at comparing the perceived clarity of personal values in men considering PSA screening using decision aids with no VCM versus an implicit VCM versus an explicit VCM. This study will add to the body of evidence on the role of decision aids to support health preference-sensitive choices and provide further insight on the impact of different methods for eliciting people's values embedded within a decision aid.

Implementation of Uterine Fibroid Option Grid Patient Decision Aids Across Five Organizational Settings - UPFRONT

Implementation of Uterine Fibroid Option Grid Patient Decision Aids Across Five Organizational Settings: a Randomized Stepped-wedge Study

UPFRONT is a study that aims to use two implementation frameworks - the Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research and the Normalization Process Theory - to guide the implementation of a uterine fibroid patient decision aid, known as Option Grid, at five diverse gynecology settings across the United States. Option Grid provides evidence-based information on the various treatment options to help women across socioeconomic strata with symptomatic uterine fibroids make a preference-sensitive decision.

Promoting Employment in Persons Living With HIV/AIDS

Promoting Employment in Persons Living With HIV/AIDS

Many persons living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) are unemployed, with estimates indicating rates as high as 60%. This study will examine the efficacy of reinforcing job-acquisition activities for improving employment outcomes in PLWHA who desire to return to the workforce in part- or full-time capacity. In total, this study will randomly assign 144 unemployed PLWHA to one of two interventions. All participants will receive usual unemployment services with an emphasis on specific issues related to HIV/AIDS, plus encouragement for completing activities geared toward employment readiness and acquisition. The enhanced intervention will involve that same treatment plus chances to win prizes for engaging in job-related activities each week. Participants will receive study treatments for 16 weeks and complete follow-up evaluations throughout 18 months. The hypothesis is that participants reinforced for completing job-related activities will transition to employment at higher and faster rates and work more often than those who are not reinforced for job-related activities.

Suubi4Cancer: Improving Access to Pediatric Cancer Services and Treatment Adherence Among Children Living With HIV/AIDS

Suubi4Cancer: An Innovative Combination Intervention to Improve Access to Pediatric Cancer Services and Treatment Adherence Among Children Living With HIV/AIDS in Uganda

This study will tailor and explore the short-term preliminary outcomes of an existing evidence-based Economic Empowerment (EE) Intervention, Suubi (Hope in Luganda -local Ugandan language), on access to pediatric cancer diagnosis, care, and treatment adherence among youth living with HIV (YLWHIV) with suspected cancers. The study will specifically address the following aims/research questions: Aim 1. Identify confirmed and suspected cancer cases in a cohort of >3000 HIV+ youth (ages 10-24) seen at 39 clinics in 5 districts heavily affected by HIV/AIDS in southern Uganda. Aim 2. Identify those lost to follow-up from the cohort in Aim 1 and determine reasons for loss to follow-up through qualitative interviews. 2.1. Identify those who have not returned to the clinic in ≥ 60 days (~2 months) from their expected return visit date. 2.2. Determine reasons for loss to follow-up or death. Aim 3. Conduct an open clinical trial to establish the feasibility and acceptability of the Suubi4Cancer intervention. *Due to insufficient sample size, Aim 3 is not implemented.

Feasibility and Acceptability of Using Low-Gain Hearing Aids for Bothersome Tinnitus

Feasibility and Acceptability of Using Low-Gain Hearing Aids for Bothersome Tinnitus

Tinnitus - defined as ringing, humming, or other sounds in the ears or head - is a very common problem for Veterans. Hearing aids that deliver low-level amplification are being used by audiologists to help people with tinnitus who also have normal hearing. However, there is a lack of research evidence showing that this practice is effective. Despite this fact, the practice clearly is spreading. Reports from audiologists in the field as well as research presentations refer to hearing aids being used in this way. Use of hearing aids has been shown to reduce distress from tinnitus for people with hearing loss. Additionally, the use of external sound to help reduce the impact of tinnitus has been shown to be effective. There is clearly a gap in the research regarding the use of hearing aids as a therapeutic method to manage tinnitus when hearing is considered normal. This study will obtain pilot data evaluating people with normal hearing and bothersome tinnitus to find out whether low-level amplification through hearing aids may provide benefit.
