Multisite Feasibility of Compassion Meditation for Veterans With Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

Multisite Feasibility of Compassion Meditation for Veterans With Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

Compassion meditation (CM) is a contemplative practice that builds compassion for and connectedness with others. CM has shown promise as a way of enhancing recovery for Veterans with Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). The proposed project will examine the feasibility of a clinical trial by assessing our ability to deliver CM and a control intervention consistently with a diverse groups of Veterans from different parts of the country and optimizing the way in which outcomes are determined.

Assessing the Effects of the Muse Meditation System on Cognition and Well-being - MuseCog

Assessing the Effects of the Muse Meditation System on Cognition and Well-being

Interaxon markets a head-worn EEG biofeedback device ('Muse') to encourage and aid effective meditation and sleep. This device has been previously shown to improve workplace wellness, fatigue and quality of life, and performance on the Stroop Task. It has also been shown to improve physiological markers associated with improved relaxation. What is not known, is whether the use of the Muse devices can improve cognitive function. In this study, the investigators will examine whether use of the Muse Meditation system by healthy participants, leads to improvements in cognition, sleep quality, mindfulness, improvement in quality of life scores, reduction in perceived stress levels, and improvement in cognitive markers relevant for safety and increased success in the workplace.

Heartfulness Meditation to Improve Resilience Among Health Care Students: A 90 Day Program - HEART

Heartfulness Meditation to Improve Resilience Among Health Care Students: A 90 Day Program (HEART)

This investigation will examine the feasibility of delivery and effect on resilience, depression and anxiety of a 90-day Heartfulness Practice delivered virtually for health care students. It is hypothesized that by providing this program on-line, students will be able to attend easily and complete the sessions. It is also hypothesized that those students who participate in the meditation program will increase resilience.

Meditation and Cancer, Pilot Feasibility Study (MAEva Pilot Study)

Meditation and Cancer: Effectiveness of the MAEva Program on Symptoms and Quality of Life. Pilot Feasibility Study. (MAEva Pilot Study)

MAEVA, which stands for Meditation, Acceptance and Commitment towards Values, is an open and circular program, made up of 3 themed sessions, following a weekly rhythm. It is proposed here to study this program over a period of 3 months, which will give participants the opportunity to complete up to three complete cycles. This program is based on the practice of and the processes of acceptance and commitment therapy. These approaches, used for several years, have proven their effectiveness in the management of stress, chronic anxiety, insomnia, chronic pain, distress in the face of chronic disease, as well as in the prevention of depressive relapses and management of impulsivity. Unlike conventional 8-week meditation programs, the MAEva program allows patients to enter the study at any stage of the disease (within, outside the exclusion criteria) and from any session and to participate according to their possibilities. The patient can participate in a weekly session of the program for 3 cycles. During the sessions, it will be proposed to train meditative practices and 3 different themes will be addressed (one theme per session): Meditation, Acceptance and Commitment to values. .

The Influence of Mindfulness Meditation Retreat on Attention to Internal Experience

The Influence of Mindfulness Meditation Retreat on Attention to Internal Experience

Although attention is thought to have a definitive functional role in mindfulness meditation training and its salutary mechanisms of action, extant empirical evidence is mixed and limited. In the proposed study, we propose to test whether 6 to 7-days mindfulness meditation retreats (N=90), relative to a wait-list control condition (N=45), will impact internal attentional processes or attention to internal experience (e.g., thoughts and bodily sensations); and whether these internal attentional change processes predict salutary outcomes of mindfulness meditation retreats. Participants will complete tasks designed to measure attention to internal experience before and then immediately following the retreat, as well as self-report measures of salutary outcomes before and 2-weeks post-retreat. Matched controls will complete the tasks at parallel time-points in the lab.

Fostering Inmates' Well-being and Mental Health

Fostering Inmates' Well-being and Mental Health Through Transcendental Meditation: a Prison Pilot

The objective of the project was to provide an assessment of the impact of Transcendental Meditation on prison inmates' well-being. To achieve this goal the investigators conducted a before-and-after study in Her Majesty's Prison Warren Hill (HMP) (England). Meditation is correlated with better self-regulation and is innovative because it fosters generalisable psychological processes that support cognitive, emotional and behavioural regulation, with self-regulation being an important factor behind a variety of outcomes. Unfortunately, the trial couldn't be completed as the investigators didn't manage to recruit a sufficient number of participants.

Non-pharmacological Mitigation of Psoriasis

Combination of Breathing Exercises, Cold Exposure, and Meditation Mitigate Psoriasis - Open Label, Randomized, Controlled Trial

In the past few years, research has provided evidence for a possibility of dampening immune system by one's will after undergoing a specific training program. Aim of this study was to verity the efficacy in affecting both mind and body by assessing psoriasis activity and psychological functioning. Among the members of both of the groups intensity of skin lesions and pruritus were assessed, consultation regarding treatment took place and multiple questionnaires regarding sleep quality, mindfulness and depressive symptoms were distributed. Blood samples were collected to asses intensity of inflammation, including interleukins.

Relaxation Therapy in Pediatric Oncology

Effects of Guided Meditation on Patient Outlook and Symptom Management in Pediatric Oncology Patients

This study will look at the use of relaxation therapy in children with cancer. The study will compared patients who are current receiving treatment for their cancer and those who are currently in remission. Patients will be asked to listen to a short audio recording twice a week prior to going to bed which will walk patients through a mediation session. Surveys will be distributed through parental emails on the first of each month for each child to complete for the duration of 12 months. It is anticipated that the use of relaxation therapy will help to improve anxiety and pain levels in this population.
