View clinical trials related to Sarcopenia.
Filter by:The primary objectives of the present study are to estimate the sarcopenic proportion in a cohort of obese older subjects who have been hospitalized. The secondary objective is to individuate several clinical variables that differ between the sarcopenic obese patient and the not sarcopenic obese patient.
To investigate and compare between the effectiveness of whole body vibration and aerobic training exercises in management of sarcopenia, muscle mass, physical performance and muscle strength in elderly.
This is a prospective parallel group, double-blinded randomized controlled trial. Subjects are randomized into two groups - the intervention group and waitlist control group. Subjects received resistance, aerobic, flexibility and balance exercise training; and nutritional supplement containing β-hydroxy β-methylbutyrate (HMB). The intervention group would first receive the intervention during the 12-week study period. Meanwhile, the waitlist control group would receive 12 weeks of conventional care. After the study period, they would receive the same intervention.
Frailty is a geriatric syndrome characterized by a decrease in the function of various organs and systems that leads to a greater risk of suffering from diseases or disabilities. Frailty is usually accompanied by weight loss, loss of strength, slowing of walking speed, fatigue and poor physical activity. Frail people have more difficulty in carrying out the usual activities of daily life and a greater risk of needing help to be able to do them. The aim of this study is to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of an intervention based on the control of chronic diseases, a good use of medicines, diet, physical exercise and good social support, in the prevention . of frailty in old people who are at risk of frailty. These criteria for participating in the study are why we invite you to participate. Your participation is voluntary. Your decision to participate or not in the study will not affect the medical care you may need. Before making a decision, read this information sheet carefully and ask the person who informs you the questions you want. In the study there will be two groups, one will receive the study intervention and the other will not receive any special treatment (we call it the control group). The assignment of each individual to one group or the other will take place once you have decided to participate. This assignment will be made at random so that neither you nor your doctor can know "a priori" which group you will be in.
Frailty is associated with higher rates of morbidity, mortality, and failure to rescue after major surgical procedures [1]. Sarcopenia is degenerative loss of skeletal muscle mass and strength. It is a key component of physical frailty and is associated with poorer post-surgical outcomes due to decreased patient strength and vitality.
The goal of this interventional study is to learn about the role of mitochondrial function in healthy aging, and then go on and assess the role of a home-based exercise program on the changes seen. The main question[s] it aims to answer are: - What alterations in skeletal muscle mitochondrial function are seen in healthy aging? - Can a short-term exercise program alter these alterations seen? The older participants will be invited to take part in a home-based 4 week exercise intervention involving either: - High intensity interval training - Resistance based training (resistance bands will be provided) Researchers will compare the two exercise groups to see if it alters mitochondrial function.
HINEX Jelly is a jelly high protein supplement. This report is to investigate whether jelly high protein supplement can achieve greater muscle mass, muscle strength, physical performance and nutritional status in sarcopenia or possible sarcopenia subjects. It is 20 weeks randomized, crossover, self-controlled trials. The screening, recruitment and trial period were carried out from Feb, 2022 to Mar, 2023. Patients were randomized to either a self-controlled phase, which intake 400~500 kcal breakfast, or a supplement phase consume one servings of jelly high protein supplement (303 kcal, 15 g protein and 2400 mg BCAA per serving) and 100~200 kcal food at breakfast per day, for 8 weeks. After a 4-week washout they cross over to the alternate treatment. The anthropometric measurements, sarcopenia parameters, nutritional assessment and hematology assessment data were measured at the week 0,8,12,20 and 24-hour dietary record were recorded at week 1,8,13,20.
This is a randomized, parallel, double-blind clinical trial. The main objective is to compare the efficacy of resistance training based on power training, multimodal exercise with non-specific exercises and a control group on functionality and body composition in women over 65 years of age with pre-sarcopenia. The intervention in both groups will be carried out for 30 weeks, with three weekly sessions. Two evaluations will be performed, one pre-intervention and one post-intervention. Functionality (Timed Up & Go test (TUG), chair stand test and hand grip test and Short Physical Performance Battery (SPPB)), body composition (Body fat %, skeletal muscle index (SMI), appendicular skeletal muscle (ASM), waist circumference, waist hip ratio, body weight, body mass index (BMI)) will be evaluated.
The aim of the study is to compare the effects of Krill Oil and Fish Oil supplementation on muscle function in older adults. The secondary aim is to investigate the mechanisms underlying the beneficial effects previously observed.
Heart failure (HF) is a chronic disease with an increasing incidence; it represents the final stage of multiple cardiac diseases and significantly affects the QoL of the patients. Its prevalence is about 26 million people in the world, especially in elderly. Sarcopenia has been directly associated with the presence of increased comorbidity in patients with HF. In this study the investigators aim to compare the clinical evolution of patients with HF after receiving nutritional support with Mediterranean diet alone or in combination with a hypercaloric, hyperproteic oral nutritional Supplement
