This pilot clinical trial studies KeraStat Skin Therapy in treating radiation dermatitis in patients with newly diagnosed stage 0-IIIA breast cancer. Radiation dermatitis is an itchy, painful skin rash that can occur following treatment with radiation. KeraStat Skin Therapy may be a better treatment for radiation dermatitis.

RTA 408 Lotion in Patients at Risk for Radiation Dermatitis - PRIMROSE

Radiation dermatitis is experienced by almost all patients (up to 95%) receiving radiation therapy for cancer. Radiation dermatitis can be a serious condition because, in addition to its direct physical complications and the resulting impact on overall quality of life, it can also be a dose-limiting toxicity requiring changes to the prescribed course of radiation therapy. The most common strategy employed in an attempt to prevent or minimize radiation dermatitis involves moisturization of the irradiated area, use of a mild soap to keep the area clean, and minimizing exposure to potential mechanical irritants, such as scratching and rough clothing. However, this strategy has been shown to lack clinically significant efficacy. Consequently, there is a clinical need for new treatments that are effective in protecting against radiotherapy-induced oxidative stress and the subsequent development of radiation dermatitis. Based on data from previous studies in animals and humans, Reata believes that omaveloxolone (RTA 408) Lotion may effectively prevent and mitigate radiation dermatitis in oncology patients undergoing radiation therapy. This randomized, double-blind, vehicle-controlled, parallel-group trial will study the efficacy, tolerability and safety of two concentrations of omaveloxolone (RTA 408) Lotion (3% and 0.5%) versus vehicle in patients with breast cancer for whom radiation therapy is recommended.

Clinical Study to Evaluate Safety and Efficacy of KAM1403 Gel to Treat Radiation Dermatitis

The main purpose of this study is to demonstrate the safety and efficacy of KAM1403 GEL in reducing the symptoms of mild to moderate Radiation Dermatitis. Efficacy will be evaluated by comparing symptoms assessment during and post radiotherapy: erythema, desquamation, edema, moist desquamation and ulceration in the KAM1403 Gel treated group versus a group of subjects treated with the Aloe vera Gel (the control group). In addition, a comparison will be made between subjects' self evaluation in the treatment group versus the control group. Safety will be determined by the number and severity of Adverse Events Device-Related.

Laser InGaAlP (660Nm) to Prevent Radiodermatitis in Breast Cancer Patients Submitted to Radiation Therapy

Breast neoplasm is the second most common type in the world. Radiation therapy is a key component in the treatment of breast cancer. Acute skin reaction is one of the most common side effects of radiation therapy. Several studies were performed for prophylaxis of this adverse event, however, until this moment there is no consensus for clinical practice . Second meta-analysis , the ideal candidate for the radiodermatitis prevention would be an agent capable of repairing damage to DNA or agents that promote cell proliferation . The low power laser promotes tissue repair ( reduces inflammatory phase and induces collagen synthesis ) . Its use in the treatment of adverse events of cancer treatment is well established in two situations : in the prophylaxis and treatment of mucositis and in the treatment of lymphedema . The purpose of this study is to use the low power laser in patients with breast cancer undergoing radiotherapy treatment to evaluate the effects of Laser InGaAIP 660Nm in preventing radiodermatitis.

Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) is a form of phototherapy which involves the application of light to injuries and lesions to promote tissue regeneration. It is a noninvasive treatment modality based on the photochemical effect of light on tissues, which modulates various metabolic processes. LLLT has been used for a wide range of conditions, in particular in dermatology, to promote wound healing, reduce inflammation and oedema, and relieve pain. In this study, we intend to assess the efficacy of LLLT to manage radiotherapy-induced skin reactions (or radiation dermatitis), a very common and distressing side effect of cancer treatment.

Clinical Trial of The Use of Bolus in Post Mastectomy Irradiation in Breast Cancer

The aim of this study is to evaluate the impact of adding bolus in adjuvant radiotherapy after mastectomy, in relation to the time of treatment interruption and acute effects. This study evaluates whether there is an increase in treatment time with the addition of the bolus, which can overshadow the benefit of increased dose to the skin and subcutaneous tissue. The patients will continue to be followed for oncologic outcomes, focusing on chest wall local control.

Pilot Study of the Effect of Laser on Reversing Chronic Radiation Injury

Radiotherapy, an essential modality in cancer treatment, frequently induces a fibrotic process in the skin which can lead to increased risk of malignancy, poor wound healing, pain and limitation of movement, and permanent loss of skin appendages with hyper/hypopigmentation, decreased sweating and xerosis, posing significant cosmetic and quality of life issues. Advances in laser therapy has led to the use of fractional laser treatment (FLT) to treat fibrosis associated with in hypertrophic scars and morphea, leading to tissue repair, scar remodeling. The investigators propose a pilot clinical study to test the hypothesis that FLT can normalize the fibrotic process and induce normal scar remodeling in patients affected by chronic radiation injury. Understanding and correcting this underlying fibrotic process can help restore normal skin functions in patients affected with chronic radiation dermatitis (RD) and other debilitating fibrotic diseases in dermatology such as scleroderma, morphea, or nephrogenic systemic fibrosis.
