Filter by:The European guidelines emphasize the importance of conducting psychological screenings to investigate the presence of stress and symptoms of anxiety and depression in patients with cardiovascular disease: depression, common among patients with CVD, is associated with increased mortality, disability, decreased adherence to healthy lifestyles and medical treatments, and together with anxiety, the risk of mortality increases by about 3 times; stress, furthermore, is associated with the development and progression of cardiovascular diseases and is correlated with low adherence and cigarette smoking. Less studied, but not less important, are the incidence of anxiety, depression, and stress in pulmonary disease, the relationship between mental disorders and pulmonary diseases, as well as the effect of the psychological component on the rehabilitative outcome of such patients: for example, there is evidence that those suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) present symptoms of depression and anxiety much more frequently than the general population and that these two mental disorders may exacerbate COPD itself. The literature, therefore, highlights that the risk of onset of cardiovascular disease increases with the severity of mental disorder, and some psychological variables correlate with the outcomes of cardiac rehabilitation intervention, crucial for reducing rehospitalizations, myocardial infarction, and mortality, as well as for improving the patient's quality of life and ability to perform physical exercises. In light of this evidence and the recent recommendations of the ESC, the present study aims to conduct screening for symptoms of anxiety, depression, and stress in all patients admitted to the Cardiology and Pulmonary Rehabilitation Units of the Milan Center, Camaldoli in order to assess their incidence and to select, through validated tools, patients who require personalized psychological intervention based on their level of risk, correlating then the presence of such symptoms with the rehabilitative outcome, in order to assess how much the mental component interferes with the care pathway. The level of acceptance and feasibility of a computerized data collection procedure will also be evaluated, a procedure that, if well accepted, would make the screening process much simpler, safer, and more economical.
Designed to measure the impact of Mindfulness Based Intervention on depression, anxiety, stress, psychological distress, Suicidal Ideation, Non-Suicidal Self Injury urge and Mindfulness in young adults. Those individuals who agree to participate in the trial and identified with high levels of psychological distress and Suicidal Ideation, randomly divided into interventional (n=30) and control (n=30) groups. The Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction intervention then administered to the interventional group for eight weeks and pre and post intervention assessment done for both the groups.
The goal of this clinical trial is to evaluate the feasibility and acceptability of a 4-week mindfulness program among young women in Puerto Rico with elevated stress. The main questions it aims to answer are: - how feasible and acceptable is a s a 4-week mindfulness program among participants with elevated stress - what are the changes in psychological resilience, psychological distress, health behaviors, and cardiometabolic markers Participants will be asked to - attend 4 weekly virtual sessions and daily mindfulness exercises at home - complete online study questionnaires
The aim of action research this study is to examine the effect of psychoeducation based on Neuman's Systems Model on psychological distress and coping with the stress of spouses of patients in the intensive care unit. The questions of this research are listed below. What can be done to reduce the psychological distress of spouses of patients in the intensive care unit? What can be done to increase the active coping with the stress of spouses of patients in the intensive care unit? How to structure a stress management psychoeducational program based on Neuman's Systems Theory for spouses of patients in the intensive care unit? Does a stress management psychoeducation program based on Neuman's Systems Theory reduce the psychological distress of spouses of patients in the intensive care unit? Does a stress management psychoeducational program based on Neuman's Systems Theory increase active coping with the stress of spouses of patients in intensive care?
The central aim of this pilot study is to compare markers of inflammation and gut microbial diversity with users of the Healthy Minds Program (HMP) app, an intervention designed to promote well-being. The investigators plan to conduct a randomized controlled trial (RCT) involving 300 participants comparing 4-weeks of the HMP app with an active control (Psychoeducation [HMP without meditation practice]), and a waitlist control in a sample of United States adults with elevated depression symptoms.
The goal of this community-based interventional study was to determine the effectiveness of the 'Trauma Resilience & Understanding Self-help Therapy' (TRUST) in managing domestic violence & primary trauma among formerly Internally Displaced Persons (fIDPs) in northern Uganda. The main questions it aimed to answer were: - What was the level of utilization and short-term effects of the TRUST intervention on the experiences of domestic violence and high levels of primary trauma among fIDPs living in northern Uganda who would have been using TRUST within their communities after completing the training in the community-based TRUST utilization? - What were the clinical indications of the TRUST intervention and psychological operators among fIDPs living in northern Uganda who would have been using TRUST within their communities to manage their experiences of domestic violence and high levels of primary trauma? Participants found to have experienced domestic violence in the last one year and were having high levels of primary trauma were randomly assigned to the intervention group that was trained in the utilization of the TRUST within their communities and then followed up for 12 weeks (TRUST group). The investigators then compared the results obtained from the TRUST group with those attained from an age and gender cross-matched control group of fIDPs who were not trained in the utilization of the TRUST within their communities (Control group). This was done to see if the community-based utilization of the TRUST intervention changed the levels of primary trauma & experiences of domestic violence among its users (TRUST group) when compared to the non-users (Control group).
Caregivers of patients with disorders of consciousness are highly prone to developing mental health issues. The aim of this study is to investigate the psychological symptoms and care burden of caregivers of patients with disorders of consciousness (DoC), and to examine which characteristics of patients were burden predictors to caregivers.
The new professional profiles highlight the need to incorporate competences such as self-regulation, communication or growth mindset in the academia. Not only is this important for employability; a step further is needed. It's necessary to equip learners with knowledge, skills and attitudes that help them become agents of change and shape sustainable futures in our current complex society. Within the framework of an agreement signed between the University of Granada (UGR), Spain, and, one of the leading real state firms in Spain, Cívitas, a course and a parallel study have been launched that will provide research and training in these competences at a degree level. It is part of the Sustainable Human Development Training Pathway of the Vice-Rectorate for Equality, Inclusion and Sustainability. The main objective of the study is to test whether participating in a competence-based course can improve students' cognitive, emotional and personal traits as well as academic performance. Together with this main purpose, the present study also aims to compare the effects of two competence-based programs on the students' ability to improve specific aspects of cognition, emotional intelligence, creativity or academic performance among others. Both programs involve training sustained attention and an accepting and open attitude though they differ in several aspects of their methods, intention and aims. Drawing conclusions from the research and outcomes, pedagogies which are best suited to develop theses competences at the Higher Education level will be suggested. Assessment and certification of this kind of competences will also be proposed.
