The Inspiring Action to Prevent Diabetes Intervention

This research is studying how to help increase uptake of and engagement in formal Diabetes Prevention Programs to improve healthy behaviors among adults with pre diabetes to reduce risk of getting diabetes. This project will compare the Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) to participating in the DPP program plus two extra pieces (INSPIRA). The 2 additional pieces in the DPP plus program includes getting matched with someone else in the program to provide each other support along with a chance to earn healthy food vouchers. Eligible participants will be randomized to one of the two groups and be asked to participate for approximately 6 months.

The study team's central hypothesis is that the Parkland Diabetes Detection Program (PDDP) screening invitations targeted by race/ethnicity with culturally concordant messaging and tailored by glycemic risk (known PDM vs. unknown glycemic state) plus phone-based navigation of non-responders will be more effective at closing screening gaps than PDDP generic screening invitations and usual care, opportunistic screening alone.

The DPPOS AD/ADRD project will address the overarching question: What are the determinants and the nature of cognitive impairment among persons with pre-diabetes (PreD) and type 2 diabetes (T2D), who are a high-risk group for cognitive impairment and represent a large fraction of the United States (US) population? This U19 proposal addresses the National Alzheimer's Project Act goal to "prevent, halt, or reverse AD" in the high-risk group of persons with pre-diabetes and type 2 diabetes, who represent over half of the population aged 60 years and older in the US.

In this study, investigators are trying to understand how broccoli, when eaten as a soup, affects blood sugar levels in individuals with pre-diabetes.

Behavioral Nudges for Diabetes Prevention (BEGIN) Trial in Primary Care

A large body of research has demonstrated that intensive lifestyle interventions and metformin are effective treatments to prevent or delay diabetes among high-risk adults, yet neither treatment is routinely used in practice. The Behavioral Nudges for Diabetes Prevention (BEGIN) Trial will test two low-touch interventions designed to motivate adoption of these treatments to prevent diabetes. Given that 38% of U.S. adults have prediabetes, the proposed study has potential for large public health impact by testing pragmatic, scalable, and sustainable approaches based in primary care to promote evidence-based treatment for this common condition.

Food Based Intervention Rich in Plant Components to Improve Metabolic Health in Prediabetics (FBIP) Study

The estimated prevalence of type 2 diabetes and prediabetes in Singapore will be approximately 20% and 25% respectively by the year 2035. Therefore, effective population based interventions are urgently warranted to halt this burden. Lifestyle intervention is the cornerstone of diabetes prevention and even remission. For example, dietary patterns such as the Mediterranean diet, Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH) diet etc. have all been shown to reduce risk of type 2 diabetes incidence. Therefore, given the successful utility of various dietary patterns, this randomized controlled trial will investigate the effectiveness of a food based dietary intervention, within an Asian dietary context, using legumes, low glycemic index (GI) starches (i.e., rice, noodles etc.), healthier vegetable oil blend as well as herbs and spices to improve various markers metabolic health, including glucose homeostasis in individuals with prediabetes.

Bialystok Exercise Study in Diabetes

The "Bialystok Exercise Study in Diabetes" (BESD), is an exercise intervention study, conducted by the Department of Endocrinology, Diabetology and Internal Medicine and Clinical Research Centre of the Medical University of Bialystok. In the project, sedentary males at different stages of dysglycemia living in the city of Bialystok participate in three months of an exercise intervention consisting of supervised training sessions at a local fitness centre. The aim of the study is to assess the effectiveness of the exercise intervention in patients at different stages of dysglycemia progression, including type 2 diabetes and prediabetes and compare the response between groups.

Trial of Early Initiation of CGM-Guided Insulin Therapy in Stage 2 T1D

This protocol is an intervention study to determine the best education and monitoring strategy for children ages 2-20 years with pre-symptomatic type 1 diabetes (T1D) because there currently exists no clinical guidelines for management of these children in early-stage T1D. This study hypothesizes that the trajectory of T1D can be changed, substantially reducing HbA1c and risk of DKA at diagnosis, through (1) careful monitoring of children progressing from stage 2 to stage 3 T1D using continuous glucose monitor (CGM) technology, (2) staged education targeted to assist families in recognizing evolving dysglycemia, and (3) addressing glycemic abnormalities with early initiation of insulin.
