Filter by:The primary objective with this study is to investigate the feasibility and acceptability of ten weeks of internet delivered prolonged exposure delivered through a digital platform with therapist support. The secondary objective is to investigate preliminary effects of internet delivered prolonged exposure in terms of reducing symptoms of post-traumatic stress, depression and increase quality of life.
This project represents a unique collaborative opportunity to pursue the essential proof-of-principle demonstration that non-invasive interference of sensory cortical memory consolidation shortly after an emotional experience can attenuate the cued fear response and potentially reduce the risk of developing post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). If successful, the study results would anchor a potential advance in the treatment of patients after a traumatic event and seed future animal and clinical studies of emotional sensory cortical memory consolidation to reduce the prevalence and negative sequelae of PTSD.
The purpose of this study is to examine whether Written Exposure Therapy (WET) can be effectively delivered virtually and in a group format for the treatment of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder in a military and police population. The objective of this study is to assess treatment feasibility and acceptability, drop out rates, changes in severity of trauma-related symptoms and symptoms of depression, quality of life, and the need for further trauma-focused treatment (TFT) for the the delivery of WET as a virtual, group based intervention.
Efficacy of a Multi-level School Intervention for LGBTQ Youth
The current study aims to assess the acceptability and feasibility of an adapted version of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Treatment Seeking (CBT-TS) for use with signing Deaf adults. This is a Stage 1A intervention refinement study consisting of a single-arm open pilot trial. Thirty Deaf adults with clinically significant symptoms of alcohol use disorder (AUD), post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, anxiety, and/or insomnia, who are not currently engaged in treatment will be recruited from across the United States. All subjects will complete a baseline assessment of their behavioral health symptoms, perceptions towards treatment, and intent to seek treatment prior to engaging in the adapted CBT-TS intervention. The primary clinical outcome, assessed at one-month follow-up, will be whether subjects scheduled professional treatment. Secondary outcomes include changes in subjects' perceptions towards treatment, intentions to seek treatment, and symptom severity from baseline. During the one-month, follow-up assessment subjects will also complete a client satisfaction survey and open-ended questions to provide feedback about the CBT-TS intervention.
This study seeks to verify that a specific acupuncture treatment is effective at reducing symptoms of neuropsychiatric trauma found in those diagnosed with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
The purpose of this project is to scale implementation and evaluation of an m-health app designed to promote early intervention and mental health support for frontline healthcare workers to reduce their risk of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and/or the mental health impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Beyond Silence has received an additional year of funding to scale implementation across 4-6 additional healthcare organizations.
In this randomized clinical trial, we will test the short and longer term effects of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) on blood pressure among reproductive aged female participants with elevated symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder and hypertension.
Rape is a common cause of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) among women, as around 30-50% will develop PTSD in the aftermath of rape. A modified protocol based on Prolonged Exposure Therapy (mPE), has been developed, consisting of three to five once or twice weekly 60 minutes sessions, and studies indicate that if implemented early after rape, mPE may prevent the development of PTSD. The aim of the study is to conduct a multi-site (4 Sexual assault care centers in Norway) randomized control trial (RCT) in which patients are recruited early after rape, and randomized to intervention (mPE) or treatment as usual (TAU).
Poor emotion recognition has been associated with poor quality of interpersonal relationships, loss of employment, behavioral problems, reduced social reintegration, social isolation and even suicide. Deficits in emotion recognition are common in traumatic brain injury (TBI) and in post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) but these deficits have not been well studied in Veterans with both mild TBI (mTBI) and PTSD. Currently there are no interventions for emotion recognition in Veterans with mTBI and PTSD, and interventions for severe TBI have lacked training of both facial and vocal emotion recognition. In a preliminary study of an innovative combination of facial and vocal modalities, a multimodal affect recognition training (MMART) showed promise but lacked attention training that is an essential component in recognizing emotions in our daily lives. Given the need to improve relationships and productivity in Veterans with mTBI and PTSD, a study is needed to determine the effectiveness of a MMART combined with attention training.
