Effectiveness of a Smartphone App for Adolescent Obesity Management

Start date: February 2013
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Though face-to-face treatment of childhood obesity can be effective, it is time consuming and costly. This study will test whether treatment can be delivered via an Android app and whether such treatment reduces obesity.

Change in Physical Activity Levels in Women at Working Place

Start date: March 2011
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the impact of different types of intervention on physical activity level and co-morbidities in women workers aged between 40 and 50 years. Method: A total of 195 sedentary women aged between 40 and 50 years and those who agreed to participate were randomized to one of the following interventions: GI = Control (n = 47), GII = Individual counseling (n = 53), GIII = Counseling group (n = 48); GIV = physical training set (n = 47). Were evaluated: Physical Activity level (steps number evaluated by a pedometer), quality of life (SF-36), body composition (BMI, waist circumference and bioelectrical impedance) and clinical variables (plasma glucose and blood pressure).

Working on Wellness (WOW) Intervention

WOW
Start date: November 2009
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The main aim of this study is to measure the effectiveness of a worksite health promotion programme on improving physical activity behaviour and associated biological risk factors for cardiovascular disease among South African employees at increased risk for cardiovascular diseases. Additionally, the investigators will conduct an economic evaluation to determine the associated cost- effectiveness of these health related interventions offered at South African companies. The investigators hypothesize that employees who receive the intervention counseling will have increased levels of physical activity and reduced risk for cardiovascular disease compared to those in the control group.

Cardiovascular Risk Factors After Renal Transplantation in Children and Adults

HENT
Start date: June 2007
Phase: N/A
Study type: Observational

Renal transplantation of children started in Norway in 1970.Since the beginning, >80% of renal transplants are provided from Living Donors(mainly parents), short pre-transplant dialysis time( median 4 months) and 50% of transplantations are performed before dialysis is needed. This gives good premises for graft survival and avoidance of detrimental effects of dialysis. However, renal transplanted children are subjected to an increased cardiovascular morbidity and mortality in adulthood due to consequences of chronic renal failure and immunosuppressive treatment.Cardiovascular death comprises 30-40% of death causes. In this cross-sectional study we evaluate cardiovascular risk factors in childhood- and also in young adults renal transplanted in childhood. Focus is cardiorespiratory fitness using treadmill testing,24h BP measurements, anthropometrics including waist circumference, echocardiography, intima media thickness of carotids, glucose intolerance test.Participants are also requested to fill out physical activity recalls and Quality of life questionnaires.
