Filter by:Obesity is a disease that poses a health risk and is increasing worldwide. Bariatric surgery is the most effective method used in the treatment of obesity. Preoperative health education for bariatric surgery patients is important to support surgery. There is not enough nursing research in the literature regarding training patients with two different materials before bariatric surgery. The purpose of the randomized controlled experimental study designed in light of this information was to determine the effect of education given to patients with two different materials before bariatric surgery on early complications. The rates of the study were determined by randomizing trial I, trial II, and control treatment in 66 rooms that met the interval and study screening criteria offered between May 2022 and June 2023 in the general surgery service of a university hospital. Data from the research; was collected with the Veria Total Form, Autar Risk Assessment Scale, Apfel Risk Score, Visual Comparison Scale-VAS (Visual Analog Scale-VAS), Training Satisfaction Survey, and Complication Monitoring Form. In the first face-to-face meeting in the experimental groups, we were given training by the researcher with the removable Training Booklet I and Training Booklet II and were monitored until discharge. No control group training was given.
This prospective study aims to analyze the influence of standardized after visit instructions (AVI) and teach back (TB) method on patients' understanding of health information. The study divided routine clinic patients into three groups: standard care, standardized AVI, and standardized AVI with TB. Patient health literacy, satisfaction, and AVI comprehension were gauged through surveys and post-visit follow-up calls. The investigators hypothesized that there would be an improvement in patient comprehension with the standardized AVI or TB when compared to controls.
Objective: The study was conducted to determine the effect of patient education on pain level and fear of pain in orthopedics and traumatology patients Methods: The study is a randomized controlled experimental research design. Data were collected between December 15, 2021, and March 15, 2022 using the Information Form, Fear of Pain Scale-III, and Visual/Visual Analogue Scale. The study was planned as a block randomized controlled experimental study. In order to calculate the sample size needed in our study, a pilot study will be conducted and a priori power analysis will be made based on the results of this study. E-mobile application will be used as data collection tool. The research will be carried out with 2 groups as application (mobile application) and control (standard care).
This study was conducted as a randomized controlled trial to determine the effects of e-mobile education and counselling service on self-care agency, body image, and quality of life in patients undergoing bariatric surgery. The sample of the study was determined using power analysis after making preliminary tests with the patients who met the sample selection criteria in Isparta City Hospital Obesity Center, and consisted of 51 (26 experiment, 25 control) patients. The patients in the experimental group received e-mobile training and consultancy services with the mobile application developed specifically for bariatric surgery that started before the operation and lasted for 3 months. The data of the study were collected using the Personal Information Form, Self-Care Agency, Body Image, and Moorehead Ardelt Quality of Life II (MA-II) Scales prepared in accordance with the literature. In addition to descriptive statistics, Chi-Square, Independent Samples t-test, Repeated Measures, Mann-Whitney U and Friedman tests were used to evaluate the data. A statistically significant difference was found in the mean scores of Self-Care Strength, Body Image, MA-II and BMI of the patients in the experimental and control groups according to the processes (p>0.05). There was no statistically significant difference between the groups in terms of preoperative, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd month Self-Care Power, Body Image and MA-II scale mean scores (p>0.05). There was a statistically significant difference between the groups in favour of the experimental group in terms of the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd month BMI averages (p<0.05).
This is a prospective, single-center, randomized control study to determine if video education at the time of postpartum discharge improves patient knowledge on the warning signs for the top three causes of severe maternal morbidity (infection, hemorrhage, and blood pressure disorders) in the first seven days following delivery. Participants will be randomized to written discharge education + video education (intervention) vs standard discharge education (control). They will complete a baseline questionnaire and a post-discharge education questionnaire during their postpartum stay to assess for knowledge improvement. The investigators hypothesize that video education will improve patient's knowledge of severe maternal morbidity warning signs.
The reasons such as the advanced age of most patients with Total Knee Arthroplasty (TKA), the presence of concomitant diseases, and bilateral prostheses cause a decrease in the quality of life by negatively affecting the healing processes of the patients. Patients who try to adapt to the problems experienced during postoperative recovery need the information to develop coping behaviors. Nurses play a crucial role in ensuring adequate and effective access of information to the patient during this challenging process, which significantly affects mobility and, consequently, life activities. Effective educational interventions to be implemented by nurses enable patients to make decisions about health problems and act to improve their quality of life. However, for patient education to be efficient, the information given must be easy to read, understandable, and suitable for various learning styles to cope with problems more effectively. Still, individuals with low health literacy have problems benefiting from all services provided, exceptionally patient education, at the desired level.
Colonoscopy is an endoscopic procedure for diagnosing colon diseases. Patients should be prepared 2-5 days in advance for this procedure and intestinal cleansing should be provided. This is a difficult process and does not admit mistakes. The adequacy of the patient's pre-preparation for this process increases the chances of success. For preliminary preparation, it is recommended to train the patient and reinforce the trainings by phone. Education given to the patient; It contributes positively to patient outcomes, the workload of healthcare personnel in the institution, and costs. Therefore, this study has been planned.
In this study, effects of oral and written education, WeChat education plus oral and written education on Helicobacter pylori eradication will be compared in a randomized way.
Pelvic floor health workshops have previously been shown to be effective in improving postpartum knowledge, performance of pelvic floor muscle exercises, and bowel-specific quality of life. Group learning through a class focused on behavioral modification and pelvic floor muscle exercises for women with urinary incontinence, has been shown to be an effective means to educate women about urinary incontinence management. The PAKS study hopes to demonstrate whether Spanish-speaking women that undergo an informative workshop on pelvic floor disorders via video in Spanish are more likely to raise their level of knowledge surrounding pelvic floor disorders and improve the pelvic floor symptoms.
