Filter by:The goal of this clinical trial is to test an enhanced version of the National Diabetes Prevention Program (NDPP-NextGen) that is tailored to young women in childbearing years. The investigators will recruit 360 women aged 18-39 years with overweight/obesity who are not currently pregnant, but likely to conceive within 24 months. Women will be randomized to NDPP-NextGen or a usual care control group. The NDPP-NextGen group will participate in the adapted NDPP online group class across 12 months, and the control group will get a packet of information about how to be healthy before, during and after pregnancy. The main goals of the study are: 1. to assess effects of NDPP-NextGen on pre-pregnancy blood sugar and early pregnancy BMI 2. to assess effects of NDPP-NextGen on weight gain and behavioral outcomes during pregnancy 3. to explore effects of NDPP-NextGen on infant's percentage of fat tissue at birth All participants will complete up to 4 research visits: baseline, conception, mid-pregnancy, and delivery. These visits will include: 1. Questionnaires about health, diet, activity, smoking, self-confidence, and depression 2. Body size measurements 3. Fasted blood draws Participants will also be asked to weigh themselves weekly using home scales that are connected to the research database. At the delivery visit, investigators will measure the baby's body size and collect a cord blood sample.
A phase 2 study to assess the efficacy of bimagrumab alone or in addition to semaglutide to assess efficacy and safety in overweight or obese men and women
This RCT study will evaluate the effect of a lifestyle intervention on overweight or obese patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. The primary hypothesis is that the mHealth-based intensive lifestyle intervention is sufficient to achieve weight loss and maintain glycated hemoglobin control.
Nearly half of women have obesity and/or hypertension (HTN). Specific to women, pregnancy creates a vulnerable window for excess gestational weight gain (GWG), exacerbating intergenerational risks for obesity, HTN, type 2 diabetes (T2D), and cardiovascular disease (CVD) across the lifespan. Healthy lifestyles are the first-line recommendations for prevention and treatment of overweight/obesity, HTN, T2D, and CVD. The Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) is a well-established, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)-led public health program focusing on healthy lifestyle changes and is effective at reducing 5-7% of body weight, lowering risks for T2D. Interestingly, research investigating the DPP as a lifestyle intervention for other chronic conditions (i.e., overweight/obesity and HTN) is lacking, demonstrating a missed opportunity. The aim of this study is to determine the initial effects of the first 6-months and after receiving the full 12-months of the virtual DPP compared to the DPP expanded with a CDC-approved HTN prevention component (DPP+) on physical activity, diet, weight, and CVD risk factors in 30 prediabetic women (18-45 years old) with a history of excess GWG, overweight/obesity, and HTN. Participants will be recruited through University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) community-based clinics using Epic. The Participants will be randomized into 2 groups (DPP and DPP+) and guided through the 12-month virtual DPP or DPP+ program using UTMB DPP personnel.
The study will investigate the safety, feasibility, and efficacy of beta-alanine supplementation in adults with overweight or obesity. Beta-alanine is a widely used dietary supplement that can increase the amount of carnosine in skeletal muscle. Both carnosine and beta-alanine occur naturally in animal food products and previous research shows that supplementation with beta-alanine leads to an improvement in exercise performance; more recently, the present investigators have shown that increasing carnosine can also help to improve cardiometabolic health, detoxify skeletal muscle, and improve glucose (sugar) uptake into muscle cells. The investigators will recruit 30 participants (15 per arm) with overweight or obesity who meet the study criteria (this accounts for up to 20% attrition - a minimum of 12 participants per arm). Those who are eligible will be required to receive three short telephone calls and attend three laboratory sessions. Participants will be randomised to receive either beta-alanine or placebo (an inactive sugar pill) for the 3-month study period. To see whether beta-alanine supplementation is feasible in this population the investigators will measure recruitment, adherence (how well people can stick to the supplement regime), the number and nature of side effects, and blinding to the intervention. Markers of cardiac function, glycaemic control, and metabolic health will also be explored. All measurements will take place before and after a 3-month supplementation period. This will provide us with novel information of the role of beta-alanine and carnosine in cardiometabolic health; and will aid in the planning of a larger randomised controlled trial to assess the efficacy of beta-alanine supplementation as a therapeutic strategy.
This study is a multicenter, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, parallel phase II study to evaluate efficacy, safety, pharmacokinetics characteristics and immunogenicity of two dose levels of TG103 injection, a GLP-1 receptor agonist, in the management of overweight or obesity, to support dose selection for further development.
Office working life has changed dramatically over the last 50 years with digitalization; this is estimated to have decreased the amount of energy (calories) used during work. Employees who work long or irregular working hours or experience job strain are more likely to make less healthy food choices. The combination of these factors may contribute to increased body weight during a persons working life. The aim is to investigate the feasibility of an online lifestyle behaviour change intervention in office workers.
The main objective is to understand the lived experience of overweight/obese patients who have followed the mindful eating program at Montpellier University Hospital. Semi-structured face-to-face interviews will be conducted in the Nutrition-Diabetes service by using a questionnaire.
