Filter by:Loss of smell is very frequently found in Europe during Covid-19 attack. This symptom was not initially expected as part of the classic symptomatology. This loss of smell mainly concerns patients with few or no symptoms, without criteria of severity and usually treated on an outpatient basis. As a result, given the unexpected occurrence of this symptom (with less awareness in the general and medical population) and the potential risk of contamination of Covid+ and anosmic subjects (due to their less symptomatic form), it is interesting to be able to propose large-scale screening for loss of sense of smell in order to preferentially direct subjects diagnosed as anosmic towards RT-PCR-type screening. In the medium term, the loss of smell seems to persist after the infectious phase, with delayed or persistent recovery, which can lead to negative psychological repercussions. The objective is to propose large-scale screening of the general population for loss of sense of smell during a pandemic period, in order to facilitate diagnostic orientation of the population. The diagnosis of loss of smell will be carried out using a simple olfactory test in the form of an olfactory stick to be smelled.
Odor and taste disturbances have increased dramatically during this time of the COVID-19 pandemic. Currently, we have very little information on the demographic and clinical characteristics of the affected population, on the severity and course of the olfactory / taste loss. The main objective of this research is to analyze the epidemiological, demographic and clinical characteristics of patients suspected or already confirmed of infection with SARS-Cov2 presenting with anosmia and / or ageusia.
Amyloidosis is a disease caused by the continuous accumulation of fibrillary proteins in the extracellular matrix causing the architecture of different organs to be disrupted. The prevalence of the disease increases with age. The two most common forms are light chain amyloidosis (AL) and transthyretin (TTR). TTR amyloidosis may be hereditary (m-TTR, or mutated) or age-related (WT-TTR, or wild). The latter is also called senile amyloidosis. In all these forms, cardiac impairment is common and leads the patient to consult/or be referred to a cardiological center unfortunately often too late when the prognosis is directly related to the severity of the heart attack. The description/discovery of clinical signs prior to heart disease is important to improve the detection and diagnosis of early forms of cardiac amyloidosis (CA). For example, an infiltration of the carpal tunnel synovial by amyloid deposits is observed in some patients, 5 years before the onset of signs of heart failure and is the only warning sign of the disease known to date. We also showed in a previous study that patients had more severe and earlier impairment of hearing function than expected by age and gender. Objective The main objective is to define the prevalence and severity of smell and taste disorders in a population of patients with cardiac amyloidosis (3 types of mutated or wild AL amyloidosis and TTR). The main endpoint is to determine the number of patients with impaired smell and taste's functions in a population of patients diagnosed with cardiac amyloidosis (3 types of mutated (hereditary) or senile wild amyloidosis (3 types of AL amyloidosis and TTR). Method Successive monocentric cross-sectional study on the screening of smell and taste disorders carried out as part of a cardiology hospitalization programmed for the cardiology follow-up of his pathology in a population of patients diagnosed with AC.
One of the most common causes of loss of smell is upper respiratory tract infection. These disorders can be quantitative (hyposmia or anosmia) or qualitative (parosmia or phantosmia). Loss of smell has been found as a major and frequent clinical sign of Sars Cov2 infection (more than 50% of patients screened at the CHU Nancy). Spontaneous recovery remains possible. It usually occurs in the first month . But when symptoms persist, the therapeutic management of post-viral anosmias is poorly codified in the literature. Olfactory rehabilitation could allow faster recovery and better quality, but the published protocols are numerous and could only be tested on small inhomogeneous series of patients (mixture of post-viral and post-traumatic hypo-ansomy). The significant increase in the population of patients suffering from post-viral anosmia following the current pandemic situation makes it possible to consider a prospective study aiming to compare two olfactory rehabilitation protocols: "classic" and "intensive" in a population of patients. suffering only from post-viral hypoanosmia. Hypothesis: Intensive or classic olfactory rehabilitation allows better results than spontaneous recovery
Background: Anosmia is a debilitating common symptom of COVID-19. The therapeutic effect of systemic steroid for the treatment of anosmia has been studied with various findings of its efficacy. However, the effect of local steroid was not assessed before. Objective: To estimate the efficacy of local steroid in the treatment of anosmia in COVID-19 patients.
Evaluating the smell and taste perceptions of patients hospitalized in the intensive care unit with suspicion of Coronavirus disease-19 diagnosis with a survey study
Literature experiences demonstrated the impact of medically-assisted pulsed fasting on olfactory behavior in both the animal and human models and - conversely - the lack of homogeneous results linked - up to now - to administrations of pulsed fasting which are not widely codified. Thus, objective of this study protocol is to evaluate the olfactory-gustatory aspects and blood patterns of a group of subjects suffering from obesity / overweight after a 6-month period of Fasting Mimicking Diet (FMD) (Group A) - consisting of a caloric restriction regimen - compared to a group of homogeneous subjects observing their own eating habits (Group B) which - according to a "cross-over" model - will undergo FMD in the following semester during which the subjects belonging to Group A will observe their eating habits.
Olfactory and gustatory disorders are prevalent symptoms in European COVID-19 patients. This study aimed to detect these disturbances among positive COVID-19 patients (symptom not initially highlighted by the patient and not sought by caregivers) in order to allow early management of olfactory and gustatory dysfunction.
