Turkish Precision Anaesthesia Study Project

TuPASProject
Start date: July 2023
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Postoperative delirium (POD) and postoperative neurocognitive disorder (PND) increase the length of hospital stay, morbidity and mortality, especially in elderly patients. Although several risk factors were determined and incidence trials were performed on the development of POD and PND, there has not yet been a multicentre, large-participant study in Turkish population. The SBI approach monitor, detect and help physicians and all perioperative team members to decrease and avoid the adverse side effects of surgery and anaesthesia. In this "before and after" design trial the incidence of POD and PND will be compared before and after education which consists processed EEG and SBI approach. The primary aim of the study is to determine the effect of education which consists processed EEG monitoring and regularly assessment of patient's stress, anxiety, pain, nausea, vomiting, thirst, hunger and better communication at the pre- and postoperative period on the incidence of POD. The secondary aim of the study is to assess the effect of the Safe Brain Initiative approach on patients' thirst feeling, stress-anxiety levels, postoperative pain, postoperative nausea and vomiting, well-being, satisfaction, length of PACU or recovery room stay, length of hospital stay, incidence of PND and in hospital and 3-month mortality. Also, the physicians', nurses' and patients satisfaction will be assessed.

HR-EEG Contribution in Prognostic Evaluation of Language Development in Children With ASD

EE-TSA-LANG
Start date: January 2, 2023
Phase:
Study type: Observational

The goal of this prospective observational multicentric cohort study is to evaluate the clinical prognostic value of the speech tracking score of language development in children with ASD aged from 3 years to 4 years and half at inclusion. Participants will followed during 4 years with an annual visit. During these visits, each participant will be clinically evaluated (scales and tests) and performed an EEG-HR recording. Two groups will be formed, one with children diagnosed with ASD with language delay, and a control group composed of non-ASD children without language delay, matched on age and gender with the ASD group.

NCT ID: NCT05457725 Not yet recruiting - Aging Clinical Trials

Modulating Neurocognitive Processes of Learning to Trust and Distrust in Aging

DecidingBrain
Start date: August 1, 2024
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Much of human interaction is based on trust. Aging has been associated with deficits in trust-related decision making, likely further exacerbated in age-associated neurodegenerative disease (Alzheimer's disease/AD), possibly underlying the dramatically growing public health problem of elder fraud. Optimal trust-related decision making and avoiding exploitation require the ability to learn about the trustworthiness of social partners across multiple interactions, but the role that learning plays in determining age deficits in trust decisions is currently unknown. Aim: Probe the malleability of the underlying neurocircuitry of trust-learning deficits in aging. This study will utilize real-time fMRI neurofeedback to train older adults in brain activity up-regulation toward enhanced trust-related learning in aging and confirm critical mechanisms of experience-dependent social decisions in aging. Grant R01AG072658 Aim 3: Test the malleability of trust-learning neurocircuitry toward optimized trust-related decision making in aging.

Passive Sensor Identification of Digital Biomarkers to Assess Effects of Orally Administered Nicotinamide Riboside

Emerald-NRAD
Start date: May 2022
Phase:
Study type: Observational

This project's main goal is to use state-of-the-art passive sensing techniques to identify digital biomarkers that relate to bioenergetic changes in the brain due to nicotinamide riboside supplementation in those with mild cognitive impairment and mild Alzheimer's dementia.

NCT ID: NCT04733703 Not yet recruiting - Anesthesia Clinical Trials

Impact of Postanesthesia Care Unit Delirium on Postoperative Quality of Recovery

Start date: October 2021
Phase:
Study type: Observational

Postanesthesia care unit (PACU) delirium is subtype of postoperative delirium that occurs early after anesthesia and surgery during the recovery period. The consequences of PACU delirium have not been investigated thoroughly. So far it is unknown, whether patients with PACU delirium experience impaired postoperative quality of recovery. The aim of this observational study is to assess the impact of PACU delirium on quality of recovery 24 hours after general anesthesia for elective non-cardiac surgery.

NCT ID: NCT04600726 Not yet recruiting - Clinical trials for Older Adults With Mild Neurocognitive Disorders

Application of VR-based Working Memory Screening Test

VR
Start date: February 1, 2021
Phase:
Study type: Observational [Patient Registry]

We propose to validate an interactive, immersive spatial memory test from the laboratory test. This VR-based working memory test (VRWMT) is a first-person, self-pacing game embedded within a virtual reality environment, the program is easily implemented with minimal instructions and no supervision that can be community-users friendly. It is specifically designed to assess rapid spatial working memory - a common deficit in all NCD subtypes. Its ability to detect pathological models of dementia, age-related deterioration, and hippocampal dysfunction are well established in literature

NCT ID: NCT04571502 Not yet recruiting - Alzheimer Disease Clinical Trials

Integration of Health Information Technology and Promotion of Personhood in Family-Centered Dementia Care

Start date: July 2024
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (ADRD) are leading causes of disability and often result in communication deficits of the person with dementia (PWD) that can complicate ADRD caregiving and clinical care. The research team will work with stakeholders to develop and design a personalized Assistive and Alternative Communication (AAC) device that relies on information technology (IT) and touchscreens to promote communication and personhood for PWD about their care preferences and experiences. This study will integrate the AAC into an existing health IT intervention that already facilitates clinical communication between caregivers and providers of PWD, called CareHeroes (CH). A clinical trial will be conducted to evaluate outcomes of 120 triads (PWD/caregivers/providers) utilizing the CH intervention as an adjunct to care and caregiving for 12 months.

Automate Music Therapy for the Management of Behavioral Disorders in Nursing Homes

MAGE
Start date: April 2020
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Alzheimer disease is the most common neurodegenerative brain disease that causes cognitive impairment in the elderly but also behavioral and psychological symptoms. Among these symptoms, agitation is one of the most dangerous because it put the patient and their caregivers in danger. Sleep disorders can be the cause of many psychiatric symptoms leading directly or indirectly to agitation. Music therapy is the non-drug therapy which has been shown to be the most effective in managing agitation and sleep disorders. With the MAGE protocol, the investigators propose to take care of behavioral disorders in severe Alzheimer patients living in nursing home through sequences of music therapy (stimulation, relaxation) automatically initiated by an actigraph that will detect sleep disorders. These subjects will be exposed for 2 weeks over a month. Behavioral and sleep disorders will be evaluated objectively by actigraphy but also by standardized scales, as the others neuropsychiatric symptoms found classically in this disease. Thanks to this project, the investigators hope to improve the quality of life of these patients by preventing them from putting themselves in danger, by reducing their neuropsychiatric symptoms and their use of medication, which has often deleterious side effect and also by reducing the workload of caregivers.

VItamin K Inhibition and NeurocoGnition (VIKING)

VIKING
Start date: September 2017
Phase: N/A
Study type: Observational

The primary objective of this study is to determine whether patients usually taking Vitamin K Antagonists (VKAs) exhibit a poorer global cognitive performance than control patients (matched on age, gender and indication for anticoagulation) taking direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs). The secondary objectives are: - to determine whether patients usually taking VKAs are more likely to have moderate to severe cognitive disorders than matched controls taking DOACs. - to determine whether VKAs intake is associated with poorer executive functions. - to determine on CT scans whether the VKAs intake is associated with a greater volume of vascular calcifications in the brain compared to the use of DOACs.
