Filter by:The investigators will detect circulating tumor DNA in blood of patients with lung metastases from colorectal cancer using NGS technology and intend to use it for predicting the outcome of local treatment (surgery or radiation) and recurrence of lung metastases.
Oxidative stress is involved in the pathogenesis of thyroid cancer, but the mechanism is not clear. The thyroid is the organ with the most abundant selenium content, and selenium may be involved in protecting the gland from the influence of large amounts of H2O2 produced during thyroid hormone biosynthesis. Selenium may exert anti-tumor activity through a variety of mechanisms, including inducing apoptosis and anti-oxidation to change the DNA methylation state of tumor suppressor genes, cell cycle arrest and stimulation of the immune system, as well as playing an anti-tumor role through its anti-inflammatory and anti-angiogenesis properties. The whole blood and thyroid selenium concentrations in patients with thyroid cancer were lower, and the decreased serum selenium levels were also associated with the high TNM stage of thyroid cancer. According to the Nutrition Prevention of Cancer (NPC) trial, selenium yeast supplements with a daily selenium content of 200 MCG have been shown to reduce the incidence of total cancer, prostate cancer, colon cancer, and lung cancer, and cancer mortality. The active agent in selenium yeast supplements is known as selenium methionine (SEMET). In general, the association between selenium and thyroid cancer is still inconclusive, the question of whether low selenium is a predisposition factor or a consequence of thyroid cancer has not been resolved, and the clinical effect of selenium supplementation in preventing thyroid cancer or improving its prognosis remains to be studied. The hypothesis is that supplementation with selenium yeast will improve the prognosis of patients with differentiated alpha-carcinoma.
Report the incidence of metastases to the splenic hilar lymphnodes from splenic flexure primaries. This mode of spread has not been previously characterized for these tumours.

This study intends to assess the efficacy and safety of stereotactic radiosurgery with sequential almonertinib in treatment-naive EGFR-mutant NSCLC patients with brain metastases.
The aim of this research study is to assess the effectiveness of combined ablation and cementoplasty in the treatment of spinal, pelvic, and extraspinal lesions causing pain resistant to conventional treatment at our centre. In particular, the investigator seek to verify the safety and efficacy for multiple primary tumor types and benign lesions as well as encompass multiple measurements of outcome, including visual analog scale (VAS) for pain, opioid and analgesic use, and overall performance scales, combined with cross-sectional imaging follow-up to assess tumor burden, to ascertain a comprehensive Canadian single-centre experience that has been lacking in previous studies.
After stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) of brain metastases, patients undergo a standard brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to assess treatment response 12 weeks after completion of treatment. The interpretation of this standard MRI can sometimes be challenging as it can be difficult to differentiate tumour getting bigger/returning (progression/recurrence) from expected radiotherapy treatment-related changes known as radionecrosis. This study is a pilot brain imaging study that is investigating if readily available forms of imaging such as contrast-clearance analysis MRI (also known as TRAMs) and/or 18 Fluoromethyl-choline positron emission tomography/computerised tomography (18F-choline PET/CT) are equivalent to multi-parametric MRI in their ability to differentiate tumour from radionecrosis. Multi-parametric MRI has the most evidence for its ability to discriminate tumour from radionecrosis but is resource intensive and not routinely available in most centres.
The primary objective of this study is to determine how sensitive and specific the Curesponse Ex Vivo Organ Culture (EVOC) model is at predicting a patient's clinical response to a specific cancer therapy. 248 patients from participating UK hospitals will have a biopsy for the development of an Ex-vivo organ culture at the Curesponse Laboratory. Patients will have standard of care anticancer therapy after the biopsy and be followed up for 6 months following their biopsy. The combined results of the study will show whether the EVOC has potential to be useful for future patients prospectively in determining whether a certain clinical treatment is likely to benefit them.
One lung ventilation (OLV) is essential during thoracic surgery. During OLV, intrapulmonary shunt can be increased resulting hypoxemia. Although OLV technique had been advanced so far, hypoxemia during OLV reaches about 10% in spite of inspired oxygen fraction 100%. Iloprost is a prostaglandin analogue used for pulmonary hypertension, which can decrease pulmonary artery resistance by selectively dilating pulmonary artery. In this prospective, randomized, double blind study, the investigator is planning to investigate the effects of iloprost on respiratory physiology (intrapulmonary shunt, deadspace, oxygenation, etc) in obese patients.
Colorectal cancer is the second deadliest malignant tumor worldwide, and liver is the most common site of hematogenic metastasis of Colorectal cancer. Surgery is an effective treatment for colorectal cancer with liver metastasis, however, only 10%-20% of patients with liver metastasis are feasible for radical surgical resection. Many single-center retrospective studies have demonstrated that thermal ablation for liver metastases is comparable to surgery. Chemotherapy can kill the microscopic cancer foci of the liver. The timing of ablation-related chemotherapeutic administration still needs to be explained. The purpose of this study was to compare the clinical efficacy of thermal ablation or combined with perioperative chemotherapy and postoperative chemotherapy in the treatment of colorectal cancer with liver metastasis.
The prognosis of patients with metastatic right-sided colon cancer is worse than that of patients with metastatic left-sided cancer. Different guidelines have different recommendations on specific conversion therapy for colorectal liver metastases. The United States NCCN guidelines do not recommend standard chemotherapy combined with anti EGFR monoclonal antibody for patients with right colon cancer. The European ESMO guidelines recommend that patients with Ras / BRAF wild-type right-sided colon cancer should first consider three drugs ± bevacizumab, but considering the objective response rate results, standard chemotherapy + anti EGFR monoclonal antibody is still one of the choices. China CSCO guidelines recommend standard chemotherapy ± bevacizumab, and also recommend standard chemotherapy + cetuximab for patients with right-sided colon cancer. Therefore, the targeted therapy for RAS / BRAF wild-type metastatic right colon cancer is still controversial. Therefore, we are ready to carry out the clinical trial of cetuximab and bevacizumab in conversion therapy for RAS / BRAF wild-type metastatic right colon cancer. The conversion resection rate is the primary point, and the objective response rate, perioperative safety and long-term survival are the secondary points.
