Filter by:In this study, it is assumed that grip strength is associated with pelvic floor muscle strength. And the outcome of pelvic floor function can be predicted by referring to the status of pelvic floor muscle strength through the value of grip strength, which is labor-saving, time-saving and more convenient for evaluating pelvic floor muscle function. Moderate physical activity and increase the overall strength can activate the potential mechanism of pelvic floor muscle contraction at the same time may be a "core muscles" overall effect, that core muscles mainly includes transverse abdominal muscle, pelvic floor muscles and the muscles around the back, these muscles in the body movement to spontaneous collaboration contract pelvic floor muscles, enhancing pelvic floor muscle function, thus reducing the incidence of pelvic floor dysfunction.
This study aimed to evaluate the duration of a reduced maximal voluntary bite force after a botulinum toxin intervention. Methods: In an intervention group, 25 units of Xeomin® (Merz Pharma GmbH & Co KGaA, Frankfurt am Main, Germany) botulinum neurotoxin type A were injected into the masseter muscles bilaterally (to a total of 50 units).
This study aimed to examine trunk and lower extremity biomechanics among children with lower urinary tract dysfunction (LUTD). It was targeted to pioneer including biomechanical changes into treatment if detected in the trunk and lower extremities of children. Voluntary participants meeting inclusion criteria were divided into two groups: the LUTD group (n=43) and the healthy group (n=43). No treatment was applied to participants and the same evaluation methods were used in both groups. Trunk muscle strength, muscle endurance, posture, flexibility, and pelvic floor muscle activity of participants was evaluated with stabilizer pressurized biofeedback unit, sit-ups and modified push-ups test; trunk flexors endurance test and Modified Biering Sorensen Test; Posture Screen Mobile And Foot Posture Index; sit-reach-test and Beighton Score; and NeuroTrac-Myoplus4Pro, respectively. In addition, the quality of life of participants was evaluated with Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory (PedsQL).

Approximately 1 in 10 mid-life (age 35-64) Americans have mobility impairing disabilities. People with mobility impairing disabilities are defined using the World Health Organization criteria: community living adults with mobility impairment (e.g., amputation, spinal cord injury). Women with mobility impairing disabilities often struggle with stress, abdominal fat (measured as waist circumference), lack of muscle tissue (measured as handgrip strength) and high cardiometabolic risk. This study investigates the usefulness, acceptability, and effectiveness of two strategies to reduce stress, improve health habits, reduce abdominal fat and increase muscle tissue in mid-life women with mobility impairments. These strategies involve either gentle stretching and strengthening exercises or watching informative videos.
Intervertebral disc degenerations are the most important cause of chronic low back pain resulting in job loss and associated socio-economic problems in developed and developing industrial countries 1. More than 40% of the Turkish population has experienced low back pain at least once in their life 2. Intervertebral disc degenerations Lumbal Disc Herniation (LDH), which is frequently represented, can cause motor and sensory losses in the lower extremity by compressing the spinal nerves. Lumbar disc surgery procedure is inevitable in case of advanced functional losses in the related sensory dermatomes and muscles after LDH. Lumbal disc surgeries are performed for the purpose of decompression of nerve pressures on nerves due to advanced disc herniation. they suggest 4. One of the most common LDH problems in the community is low foot problems due to weakness of the tibialis anterior muscle, which occurs due to L4-L5 disc herniation, and the accompanying functional disorders. In disc herniations at this level, the activation of the tibialis anterior muscle, which is compressed by the nerve root, decreases compared to the medial gastrocnemius muscle, where it works as an antagonist, and this leads to functional limitations, especially in gait and balance activities. Spinal stabilization exercises are a concept that emerged from the idea that exercise is important for the provision and preservation of functionality of people with low back and back pain due to LDH. According to this exercise approach, muscles are of great importance in providing lumbar region stability. These muscles are classified as general (global) stabilizing muscles, which are dynamic, phasic, and power-producing muscles, and regional (local) stabilizing muscles, which are postural, tonic, and stabilizer muscles. The main muscles responsible for spine stabilization are multifidus, transversus abdominus and pelvic floor muscles 6. It is argued that increased lumbo-pelvic motor control thanks to spine stabilization facilitates lower extremity activities, especially flexion and extension movements in the sagittal plane. Patients with LDH who increase their motor strength can use lower extremity movements more functionally. The aim of this study was to (1) determine the activation rates of the tibialis anterior and medial gastrocnemius muscles during different functional activities in the lower extremities affected and unaffected by LDH, (2) to compare the rates of the affected extremity to the rates of the healthy extremity during coactivation of the transversus abdominus and multifidus muscles (spinal stabilization basic exercise). to determine whether it is close or not. According to the hypothesis of this study, the researchers thought that the functional activities performed together with the activation of the transversus abdominus and multifidus muscles would show coactivation behaviors at a rate closer to the healthy extremity.
The purpose of the study is to determine the effect acupuncture treatment on individuals with a diagnosis of Myasthenia Gravis (MG). A total of 20 people with MG will be enrolled in this study to receive acupuncture treatment 2 times a week for 12 weeks. Participants will be randomized into two groups: 1) Immediate start and 2) Delayed start (12 weeks). The delayed start group will act as a control group for the first 12 weeks, but then receive acupuncture treatment for 12 weeks. It is hypothesized that patients with MG who receive acupuncture treatment will have improved quality of life and activities of daily living compared to no treatment.
The aim of our study is to compare the effectiveness of the supervized pulmonary telerehabilitation program and the cognitive telerehabilitation method, which includes pulmonary telerehabilitation methods, in patients with severe stage COPD who have difficulty exercising heavily. The effects of pulmonary and cognitive rehabilitation on dyspnea, muscle strength, functional capacity, quality of life, anxiety and depression levels in this patient group will be examined. The number of studies in the literature in which the pulmonary rehabilitation program was applied as telerehabilitation is insufficient. Considering that this patient group is not motivated and has difficulty in exercising, motor imagery and movement observation methods from cognitive rehabilitation methods may be alternative methods for these patients. Although these methods have been very popular in recent years in terms of researching and demonstrating their effectiveness in various patient groups in the literature, no study has been found in which the effects of these methods have been applied in pulmonary disease groups. This study aims to contribute to the serious gap in the literature on the application of pulmonary telerehabilitation and its effectiveness, and to be an original study by investigating the effectiveness of motor imagery and action observation, which are popular rehabilitation methods of recent years, in COPD patients in the pulmonary disease group for the first time.
Myasthenia gravis (MG) is a neuromuscular junction (NMJ) disorder mediated by autoantibodies against AChR, MuSK or other autoantigens located at the post synaptic membrane of the neuromuscular junction. Presence of autoantibodies specific for AChR or MuSK can establish diagnosis in conjunction with clinical presentations. In most established guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of myasthenia gravis, determination of AChR and MuSK antibodies has been recommended. Radioimmunoprecipitation assay (RIPA), enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), and cell-based assay (CBA) are all commercially available and have been adopted for autoantibody detection by most referring neurologists. At present, specificity and sensitivity of these methods have not been compared in large cohorts within a context of stringent quality control. As a consequence, there are no national or international consensus regarding selection of methods and interpretation of results, resulting in challenges to neurologists managing these patients. To this end, the investigators proposed to conduct a multicenter, double-blind, prospective study to compare the sensitivity and specificity of CBA, RIPA and ELISA assays to detect AChR and MuSK antibodies.
Unfortunately, hospital-acquired weakness is highly prevalent among COVID-19 hospitalized patients, who often require prolonged bed-rest or paralytics for an extended period of time in order to maintain oxygenation. Prolonged bed rest has been associated with pronounced loss of muscle mass that can exceed 10% over the 1st week, which leads to functional impairment and complications post-hospital discharge. Physical therapy and in-hospital mobility program may reduce the incident of hospital-acquired weakness, but they are often impractical for COVID-19 patients. In particular, conventional mobility programs are challenging for those who are being treated in an intensive Care Unit. The purpose of this study is to test feasibility and proof-of-concept effectiveness of daily use of lower extremity electrical stimulation (EE) therapy, as a practical solution to address lower extremity muscle deconditioning, to address chronic consequences of COVID-19 including hospital-acquired weakness.
