Filter by:This research aims to create a tool for detection of mental health disorders in adolescents with chronic pain. The first part is testing a screening questionnaire and comparing in with existing questionnaires. The second part involves two focus group with the adolescents aimed at recording their perception of the questionnaire.
Social cognition dysfunction (including emotional perception, theory of mind, and attribution bias) is a common dysfunction in serious mental illness, which may influence their life roles and daily functions. The social cognition and interaction training (SCIT) is a manual-guide group intervention that can apply to people with serious mental illness.Thus this study aims to conduct SCIT groups in Taiwan to investigate its feasibility and effectiveness. This study will include 30 clients. Investigators will randomly allot participants into two group, and conduct a crossover design. The experimental group will receive a 60-minutes manual-guide SCIT session each week for 20 times, which will be leaded by 2 licensed occupational therapists. After the intervention, investigators will analyze demographic data and compare the difference between experimental group and control group on the social cognition performance.
Children with neurodevelopmental disorders may show difficulties in self-regulation. The main objective of this study is to improve self-regulation skills in children between 6 and 11 years old with neurodevelopmental disorders. Methodology: A randomized controlled trial will be conducted with the use of "SF-MRehab: Un colegio emocionante", a non-inmersive virtual reality system where virtual objects can be managed by children in a natural way by using their hands. Children will be recruited from several schools from Granada (Spain) and they will be randomly allocated to two groups. Assessment will be conducted before and after the intervention as well as 24 weeks after the end of the intervention process. Experimental group will receive the intervention using virtual reality. Control group will receive the intervention through a standard self-regulation program. Both interventions will be performed once a week for a total of 10 sessions. Changes in self-regulation, as well as acceptability of technology with the use of SR-MRehab will be evaluated. The results will be published and will contribute with evidence regarding the use of this type of intervention on children with neurodevelopmental disorders

Recent studies indicate that the interplay between diet, intestinal microbiota composition, and intestinal permeability might impact mental health. The aim of thisl study is to compare diet, intestinal microbiota, intestinal permeability, and related metabolic factors among children and adolescents diagnosed with mental health disorders and control groups and identify potential relationship patterns. All children and adolescents referred to the outpatient clinic at the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Department at The National University Hospital in Reykjavik Iceland will be offered to participate (n=15) (age 5-15 years). Two control groups will be used; the same parent siblings close in age (n=x) as well as age and sex-matched children from the same postal area (n=15). A three-day food diary, rating scales for mental health and multiple questionnaires will be completed as well as faecal sample, buccal swab, urine, saliva and blood samples will be collected. This is a novel approach as more multidimensional transdisciplinary studies including longitudinal observational data have been called for as a basis for lifestyle treatment options for improving mental health and wellness.
Researchers in the Neurodevelopmental Division at Phoenix Children's Hospital are conducting a study about mitochondrial function in children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The study involves up to 5 visits to Phoenix Children's Hospital with fasting blood draws, behavioral assessments, and/or questionnaires. Other samples may be collected when appropriate. This study is currently recruiting. There is no cost for visits or study-related exams.
The objective of the proposed study is to take a further step in this direction by developing, implementing and monitoring a routine systematic evaluation of clinical process and outcome indicators, patient reported experience (PREMs) and patient reported outcomes (PROMs) to study the quality and continuity of care over time.
Background: Direct exposure to public health emergencies is associated with increased mental disorders. It is less clear about the prevalence of common mental disorders and its correlates in Chinese adolescents after experiencing public health emergencies. Objective: This longitudinal study aims to estimate the prevalence of common mental disorders (i.e. depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder) and its correlates in a sample of Chinese adolescents after experience a public health emergency, namely the novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Method: This study intends to recruit 3,428 Chinese adolescent students from high and middle schools in the baseline survey. This study will track these recruited participants every 6 months via three-wave follow-up (i.e. 6-month, 12-month, and 18-month follow-ups). The demographics (e.g. age, gender, education, family background, and residence) and psychosocial factors (i.e. exposure to traumatic events, religious belief, social media exposure, loneliness, and perceived social support) associated with common mental disorders (i.e. depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder) will be investigated in this sample population. Furthermore, a hardcopy self-report questionnaire will be disturbed to all participants. Additionally, the cross-sectional analyses will be first conducted to estimate the prevalence of mental disorders and their correlates in data of baseline survey. After obtaining the longitudinal data, the relative risk, incident rate ratios, latent class analysis, and structural equation model may be performed in this study. Missing data will be solved by the multiple imputations. Data analysis tools included the Stata 16.0 and Mplus 8.4. Discussion: This longitudinal study will better help to understand the prevalence changes of mental disorders among Chinese adolescents following the COVID-19. These findings have the potential to provide empirical evidence about the burden of mental disease and key drivers of Chinese adolescents following the COVID-19, which can benefit the formation of public policy and mental health intervention programming. This study will close the gaps that a lack of epidemiological studies about the mental disorder prevalence and related risk factors.
The purpose of this project is to conduct a feasibility test of an ASD executive functioning intervention adapted for mental health settings, including examining the effectiveness and process of implementing this adapted intervention in community mental health programs.
Negative symptoms are an important factor in preventing patients from returning to the community, we aim to assess the effect of music therapy on negative symptoms through this study. Participants of integrated music therapy will receive instrument playing, singing, lyrics modification/music organized play, listening to music and discussing each treatment process. Other participants will receive passive music listening or regular occupational therapy during the experimental period. Psychiatric symptoms, quality of life, social and interactive skills, and the differences in the physiological signals produced by skin, muscles, and heart will be measured before, after, and two months after the music therapy.
