Filter by:Community mental health centers (CMHCs) face significant challenges in meeting the needs of individuals with mental health issues. For example, due to high demand, there are long waiting lists and low engagement rates. Innovative interventions are urgently needed to address these challenges to improve patient engagement, coping skills, and overall health outcomes. Educational and self-management interventions have shown promise in enhancing patient activation and treatment satisfaction in other contexts. They may therefore be potential solutions to reduce the identified challenges in the mental health service. To bridge these knowledge and practice gaps, this study aims to evaluate a digital pre-therapy patient education program tailored specifically for adults with mental disorders. This intervention aims to enhance treatment satisfaction, patient activation, knowledge, patient engagement, and overall mental health outcomes.
This cluster randomized trial develops and pilot tests a multi-level substance use stigma intervention that leverages organizational policy and professional education to address structural and professional drivers of stigma in outpatient mental health (MH) services. The investigators will generate preliminary data to determine whether adding an organizational policy to a professional stigma training may reduce measures of provider-based stigma towards substance use and improve care quality and patient outcomes to a greater degree than simply conducting training alone. The investigators hypothesize that providers at a MH site implementing an organizational policy change in addition to providing professional training will demonstrate greater improvement to health services for people who use drugs compared to a site where providers receive training alone.
This study seeks to improve mental health, pregnancy, and HIV outcomes among pregnant and postpartum women living with HIV with common mental health disorders in Kenya. The investigators will tailor a collaborative care model for peripartum women with HIV experiencing mental health symptoms and evaluate its impact on participants' mental health, antenatal, and HIV care outcomes. The investigators will actively engage key stakeholders throughout the process and assess scalability and sustainability through multi-method approaches. This study will contribute to the overall goal of achieving optimal health outcomes for women living with HIV and their families in sub-Saharan Africa.
Young adults experiencing homelessness have high rates of mental health conditions but low rates of service utilization and the point of transition from homelessness to supported housing provides a window of opportunity for intervention. The goal of this study is to adapt the evidenced-based intervention, Critical Time Intervention, for young adults with mental health conditions who are entering a rapid rehousing program and test the adapted intervention in a randomized feasibility pilot trial. Participants in the pilot trial will be asked to participate in the CTI-YAMH intervention that involves structured case management and supports from a mental health liaison and a peer support specialist. After a pilot feasibility phase (n=8), we will test the intervention by randomly assigning young adults on the housing wait list to a housing program with CTI-YAMH (n=26) or to get housing supports from another agency that does not provide CTI-YAMH (treatment as usual, n=26).
Depression is a debilitating chronic illness affecting 1 in 6 adults in the United Kingdom (UK) at any one time. Antidepressants and psychological therapy are the main treatments, but some people do not respond to these. Neurons and signals in the brain are greatly disrupted in people with severe depression. A ketogenic diet, a high-fat and very low-carbohydrate diet, supplies a form of energy that appears to help brain cells communicate and may improve the treatment of depression. Our goal is to find out whether a ketogenic diet could be an additional effective treatment for patients with depression for which antidepressants do not work. Using social media advertising, 100 patients, ages 18-65, who have previously tried at least two different antidepressant medications within the current depressive episode will be recruited. Enrolment, consent, and data collection will be collected online using self-report questionnaires. Participants will be allocated by minimisation 1:1 to the KD group or control group based on depressive severity (moderately severe vs. severe) and body mass index (<30kg/m2 vs. 30+ kg/m2). The intervention group will receive 6-weeks of prepared ketogenic diet meals (3 meals with snacks per day) and weekly ketogenic diet-focused nutrition counselling. The control group will be asked to follow a diet to reduce their saturated fat intake and increase vegetable consumption by one portion a day. The control group will receive vouchers to assist with purchases and will be provided with weekly nutritional counselling. Existing treatment for depression will remain in both groups. The primary outcome is the change in depression symptoms at six weeks. All participants will complete assessments of depression and anxiety every two weeks, starting before treatment to post-intervention (week 6), and again at week 12. Additional outcomes include participants' ability to experience pleasure, quality of life, ability to socialise and work, cognitive processing, morning cortisol, and gut microbiome. At all stages of the study, adults with lived experience of depression will advise the research team to take into account the needs and views of patients. This study will provide evidence of whether following a ketogenic diet leads to a short-term improvement in depression in people whose depression cannot be relieved by antidepressants.
The study tests the effect of the ATNC MDD-V1 on Alzheimer patients' cognitive function. The ATNC MDD-V1 uses non-invasive stimulation of both magnetic and cognitive training.
The goal of this study is to determine the effect of the simulation-based Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) Simulation Training applied to senior nursing students studying at a foundation university on students' perceptions and knowledge levels about ECT. The research hypotheses are as follows; H0: There is no significant difference between students' perception and knowledge levels about ECT before and after simulation-based ECT training to be applied to nursing students. H1: There is a significant difference between students' perception and knowledge levels about ECT before and after the simulation-based ECT training to be applied to nursing students. Type of study: This study was planned in a single group pre-test post-test quasi-experimental design. Participants: The study population will consist of fourth-year students (n=72) of Fenerbahçe University Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Nursing, Turkish Nursing Program. Intervention: The study will collect data before the students start clinical practice and before the theoretical course on Electroconvulsive Therapy. Then, a one-hour theoretical training on electroconvulsive therapy will be given. This training includes ECT, its history, use areas, nursing care before, during and after ECT and patient education. After the theoretical lecture, a simulation scenario will be distributed to the students, and they will be asked to come prepared on the simulation day. Students will be divided into groups of 15 people, and the groups will be met in the Simulation Laboratory at the determined group hours. Control Group: There is no control group. Outcome: Perceptions and knowledge levels about ECT.
The purpose of this study is to determine whether an integrated protocol based on cognitive behavioural therapy, positive psychology and third generation therapies is effective in improve the subjective well-being of people affected by a severe mental illness (SMI). The design of the study is a cluster randomized control trial with two arms. Experimental groups will receive 15 sessions to enhance positive emotions, optimism, adaptive coping, finding a purpose in life and sharing it with people who are important to the user. The control group will remain on a waitlist with their treatment as usual (TAU). After the control period (15 weeks), participants of the experimental groups have the chance to receive the intervention. Both groups will be measure before and after de 15 intervention weeks. Additionally, follow-up measures of the experimental group will be taken after 3 and 6 months.
The model of care for forensic psychiatry in Italy was changed by law (Law 81/2014) so that the six legacy secure forensic hospitals (Judicial Psychiatric Hospitals, OPG) were closed and new secure community residences for the execution of security measures (REMS) were opened in each of the 20 regions of Italy. This transition was in place by 2015. This observational study evaluates the health gains for patients both previously in OPGs and those admitted first to REMS. Health gains assessed include recovery measured by symptoms, function, need for therapeutic security and recovery of legal autonomy.
This waitlist, randomised controlled trial (RCT) aims to examine the effectiveness of the Module-Based Psychological (MBP) intervention in reducing mental distress for youths aged 12-30 years in Hong Kong. The participants randomised to the MBP group will receive 4-7 sessions of MBP (in 6 to 10 weeks) in an individual format delivered by frontline social or youth workers trained by professional clinicians. The waitlist control group will receive the same intervention after 6 weeks of waiting plus a 1-month follow-up period. The MBP is designed to improve the youths' abilities/skills in handling moods for better emotional management. Written informed consent will be signed by participants or their parents/guardians if they are under the age of 18.
