Filter by:The premise of this trial is that a combined nutrition (eggs) and parenting behavior intervention (responsive parenting combined with the reinforcement of animal source foods and improved WASH) will synergistically result in improved child growth, development, and reduced enteric disease outcomes over and above a nutrition only intervention and standard well baby care. This study is a 3-arm longitudinal randomized controlled trial (RCT) to compare the following groups for effectiveness in reducing young child stunted growth and enhancing overall development:1) standard well-baby care, (n=200); 2) nutrition intervention (one egg per day for 6 months), (n=200); and 3) multicomponent Grandi Byen intervention (responsive parenting, nutrition, hygiene + one egg per day for 6 months), (n=200). Infants will be enrolled between 6-8 months of age and followed longitudinally for one year.
This study is aimed to explore the effect of physical exercise and nutrition supplement on improving frailty, depressive symptoms, and quality of life in community-dwelling older population.
The prevalence of malnutrition is estimated at 30-50% of hospitalized patients in China. Disease-related malnutrition increases the risk of infection, mortality, length of hospitalization as well as the economic burden. National Nutrition Plan proposed to reduce malnutrition, but a clear, effective roadmap and protocol has not existed yet. Several factors impede to resolve the above challenges. They include :1) the low efficiency of current malnutrition diagnosis methods; 2) the lack of dynamic, standard method that can evaluate nutritional status in quantitative way. To this end, the investigators aim to establish an artificial-intelligence malnutrition diagnosis system to improve the application of malnutrition Clinical Pathway. Firstly, the investigators will establish a multidimensional malnutrition large data set, based on our previously built national hospital nutrition screening data set. It will contain deep 3D facial images, semi-structured and structured electronic medical record. Then, the investigators will use ensemble learning algorithm to establish a fully automatic, artificial-intelligence malnutrition diagnosis model that includes both etiological and phenotypic diagnosis.
The goal of this this study is to develop and test the feasibility of a remotely delivered brief behavioral activation intervention to decrease the negative physical and psychological consequences of being homebound among older adults during the time of COVID.
Obesity is considered a chronic disease that increases the risk of developing diseases that reduce life expectancy. The treatment of obesity is complex. However, treatments based exclusively on dietary changes have not shown long-term efficacy especially in people with severe obesity. In contrast, in this group of people bariatric surgery (BS) has shown good long-term results in weight loss and maintenance. These changes are accompanied by significant improvements in health, improved quality of life, and reduced mortality. However, the changes in the digestive system created by BS and the high level of dietary restriction, affect the nutritional status and require a proper supplementation of vitamins and minerals during the follow-up. Intense weight loss during the first few months, coupled with an insufficient amount of protein in the diet, can lead to a loss of muscle mass. Excessive muscle loss during the short-term period can lead to functional repercussions (decreased strength and physical function) and reduced calories that the body burns daily. Naturally, this is especially important in people suffering from sarcopenia before BS, and it occurs more frequently in postmenopausal women. Despite this is known, specific protein intake recommendations after BS have not yet been defined based on scientific evidence. In this context, the first part of our proposal will assess the effect of two levels of protein supplementation: standard (S-PS) versus high (H-PS) on changes in a) body composition, b) energy expenditure, c) metabolic flexibility d) the physical condition during weight loss that follows BS. In addition, in patients with H-PS, the added effect of a physical exercise program, carried out with a personal trainer (professional of sports medicine trainer) virtually, will be evaluated. Protein supplementation and the virtual exercise program will be done during the 4 months following BS, and the results will be studied at 4, 8, and 12 months. Once the results have been defined, it is essential to transfer the recommendations to the real world. In a second part, and to achieve knowledge transfer to clinical practice, the investigators will explore the key elements that influence patient experience (XPA).
Introduction: Annually 400,000 children are diagnosed with cancer in the world. Approximately 90% live in low/middle-income countries, with survival rates of 10-30%. In Mexico, children and adolescents' hospital admissions for cancer are mainly leukemias (46%), being acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) the most common. Half of ALL patients have an altered nutritional status at the time of diagnosis. Nutritional assessment is performed using conventional anthropometric measures, which are not sensitive to changes in fat-free mass and fat mass (FFM and FFM). Our objective is to evaluate the body composition and nutritional status in pediatric patients with HM. This is a pre-test/post-test clinical trial. Children 2-14 y olds diagnosed with leukemia, myeloma and lymphoma in any stage of oncological treatment will participate. The nutritional status will be evaluated using questionnaires and body composition. Measurements will occur at the enrrollment of the study and 6 months after.
This study is a multi-center observational study, led by the Department of Geriatrics, Peking Union Medical College Hospital, with 99 tertiary hospitals as sub-centers. Patients in the geriatrics department from September 2020 to September 2021 are consecutively enrolled .Basic information and nutritional risk assessment is registered and the outcome within 90 days after hospitalization will be recorded.Daily energy, protein and fiber are 75% of the target amount as the standard for feeding.

The world population is ageing rapidly as a result of low fertility and mortality rates and increasing life expectancies. Old age people (age 60 years and above) shared 962 million or 13% of the global population in 2017 and expected to be two billion by 2050. As individuals grow old, their dietary pattern changes and the risk of malnutrition estimated between 11.8% to 27% in the community elderly people. Ageing and nutrition are by far the number-one driver of the global burden of disease: every country is facing. Early assessment and management of malnutrition among old age people can minimize the negative consequences, extending to better health status and quality of life. Nutrition counselling is one of the first line of nutritional therapy. However, malnutrition in old age people remains under-detected, under-treated and under resourced, and is often overlooked in low-income countries like Ethiopia. Furthermore, nutritional interventions targeted to old age people are lacking in the country. Therefore, this study is intended to estimate the effects of nutrition counselling on old age people's nutritional status and quality of life in Bahir Dar City, Northwestern Ethiopia
The investigators will investigate the existence of alcohol drinking among children living under adult supervision and care, living within the communities. The investigators will focus on the age group 6-13 years overlapping with the recommended age for primary school attendance. The project is approaching the research topic using quantitative and qualitative methods. The TREAT C-AUD research project will therefore document to which degree alcohol drinking is a problem among children in Mbale, Eastern Uganda.
