Filter by:Malnutrition and inappropriate prescribing of renally excreted drugs are common among older persons and are associated with severe consequences such as complicated courses of treatment, mortality, and reduced quality of life. The overall purpose of CanPan is to optimize treatment of older persons with malnutrition with a focus on appetite stimulation and optimized prescribing of renal risk drugs. The CanPan trial consists of two sub-studies. Substudy 1 will provide knowledge on appetite and appetite stimulation and together, sub study 1 and 2 will offer unique knowledge on how body composition, renal function and biomarkers of organ function influence pharmacokinetics for a highly lipophilic (Sativex®) and hydrophilic (Hexamycin®) drug in older medical patients with malnutrition.
The food intake is often compromised in the elderly, and during hospitalization, dietary restrictions may be imposed, making them more susceptible to the risk of malnutrition and sarcopenia. It is essential to make an early identification of the elderly with low intake and involve them in their self-care. The aims will be assess the influence of the nutritionist's educational action to increase protein intake in elderly patients, to analyze the knowledge on its importance in the prevention of sarcopenia and to identify the prevalence of nutritional risk. This is a field, prospective, correlational, comparative and randomized study. The elderly patients will be randomized into a Control Group and Intervention Group.
The study will be offered to patients with non-small cell lung carcinoma diagnosed at stage IV and receiving first-line treatment. The patient will benefit from a complete assessment at inclusion (clinical exam, imagery, biological exam, dietary consultation, test LFQP. At the end of this 1st evaluation, patients in whom the diagnosis of undernutrition is made will benefit from dietary management with personalized advice that will take into account the symptoms of cancer, the possible side effects of treatments as well as the social environment. Every two cures, i.e. every 4 to 6 weeks, these examens will be performed until the occurrence of an event (progression of the disease according to the RECIST criteria, death or change of therapeutic line). At the end of these assessments, patients will benefit from dietary management with a readjustment of personalized advice that will take into account the difficulties highlighted during the assessment.
A single arm intervention study examining the effect of an omega 3 enriched oral nutritional supplement on nutritional status of CRC and NSCLC patients

The therapeutic education programme is led by a multidisciplinary team whose approach is centred on dietetics, supported by tools for encouragement via socio-aesthetics, physical activity and sophrology. The educational objective is to promote the autonomy of the patient as well as the family caregiver, to involve them in the care pathway alongside the practitioners, with a view to contain undernutrition and reverse the spiral that increases the risks of morbi-mortality. The aim of the study is to assess patient adherence to the device, the technical and economic feasibility, and its impact on quality of life.
Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is one of the most prevalent chronic diseases today, it is reaching epidemic proportions, mainly caused by the increase in type 2 diabetes (DM2).The foundation of any hypoglycemic treatment is based on a healthy diet, daily physical exercise and adequate health education with the collaboration of the patient. Diet is sometimes the only necessary therapy since approximately 80% of patients with DM2 are usually overweight, what is mainly wanted with diet is to achieve normal blood glucose levels both fasting and in the postprandial phase. Cancer is one of the main causes of death globally, being in many countries the first cause of mortality. One of the main side effects of chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy treatment in cancer patients is the alteration of taste and smell, internationally known as these anomalies Taste Smell Alterations (TSA). These alterations are the result of an altered cellular structure, the presence of TSA is associated with reduced quality of life and poor nutrition, due to dietary changes made by these patients. Synsepalum dulcidicum (dried miracle berry, DMB) is a plant belonging to the Sapotaceae family, made up of around 800 species grouped into around 40 genera. It is an indigenous species to the forest regions of West Africa. Nuts of this specie have been approved as a novel food in accordance with Regulation (EU) 2015/2238 and at the request of the European Commission through the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) Panel on Nutrition, Novel Foods and Food Allergens. The characteristic component of DMB is miraculin. Miraculin is a glycoprotein whose consumption causes acidic and sour foods, and to a lesser extent bitter, to be perceived as having a sweet taste. Undernutrition in the first 2 years of life is the largest preventable cause of death before age 5. Among those who survive, stunting before age two leaves millions with lifelong physical and cognitive deficits, which are difficult to compensate for later in life. Pakistan is home to the second largest number of stunted children in South Asia. The primary goal of this study is to rehabilitate moderately malnourished children aged 7-23 months and enable mothers to sustain this healthy growth at home by changing their infant and young child feeding (IYCF) practices, child care, hygiene and health-seeking behaviours.
