NCT ID: NCT02923505 Completed - Heart Failure Clinical Trials

Effect of Positive Airway Pressure Therapy on Hospitalization and Mortality in SDB Patients With Comorbid Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) or/and Heart Failure (HF)

Start date: May 16, 2016
Phase:
Study type: Observational

The aim of the study is to test the hypothesis that treatment of sleep disordered breathing (SDB) in patients with comorbid chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and/or heart failure (HF) with positive airway pressure (PAP) is associated with reduced risk for hospitalizations and death, lower health care utilization, and greater cost-effectiveness.

NCT ID: NCT02922387 Completed - Asthma Clinical Trials

Smoking Cessation Intervention in Respiratory Inpatients

Start date: May 2012
Phase: Phase 4
Study type: Interventional

Prospective, open-label, parallel-group, 52-week trial comparing varenicline in combination with behavioral support with one session of behavioral support alone. Eligible patients were smokers hospitalized due to a) acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), or b) bronchial asthma attack, or c) community-acquired pneumonia (CAP). The primary outcome was the success rate (%) at week 52. Secondary outcomes were quality of life (QoL) alterations on the domains of the 36-Item Short Form Health Survey (SF36) and investigation of possible predictors for smoking abstinence.

NCT ID: NCT02909452 Completed - Neoplasms Clinical Trials

Continuation Study of Entinostat in Combination With Pembrolizumab in Patients With Advanced Solid Tumors

Start date: September 20, 2016
Phase: Phase 1
Study type: Interventional

The objectives of this study are to explore different dosing levels and schedules of entinostat in combination with pembrolizumab in patients with advanced solid tumors, in terms of safety, tolerability, pharmacokinetics (PK), impact on immune correlatives, and efficacy

NCT ID: NCT02907788 Completed - Cystic Fibrosis Clinical Trials

Inflammatory Markers in Broncho-alveolar Lavage Fluid as Risk Factors for Lung Disease in Infants With Cystic Fibrosis: the I-BALL Study

I-BALL
Start date: September 2014
Phase:
Study type: Observational [Patient Registry]

Airway disease, featuring intense inflammation, is the main cause of morbidity and mortality in cystic fibrosis (CF). Mechanisms of CF airway inflammation remain unclear, hampering development of better treatments. This time-sensitive ancillary study leverages a unique longitudinal cohort of CF infants, assessing the early phase of airway disease. Through the use of innovative cell and fluid based tools for in vivo profiling and in vitro testing of BALF samples, this translational effort will yield unprecedented insights into mechanisms of PMN dysfunction in CF, and assess new paths for early intervention.

NCT ID: NCT02900209 Completed - Clinical trials for Pulmonary Disease, Chronic Obstructive

Influenza Vaccination and COPD Phenotypes

Start date: October 2016
Phase: N/A
Study type: Observational

The aim of this study is to determine responses of the immune system to the annual flu vaccination in people with COPD who experience frequent or infrequent exacerbations and healthy participants. We will collect blood and saliva immediately before and one month after flu vaccination at GP surgeries in the Autumn/Winter period. By measuring how quickly antibodies (that provide protection against infection) develop in the blood after vaccination we can provide important new information to help confirm whether those prone to COPD flare ups have weaker immune systems.

NCT ID: NCT02897778 Completed - Neoplasms Clinical Trials

Cardiac Safety Study of Entinostat in Men and Women With Advanced Solid Tumors

Start date: August 24, 2016
Phase: Phase 1
Study type: Interventional

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect of entinostat on heart rate and other electrocardiogram (ECG) parameters. This study will also evaluate the safety and tolerability of entinostat, as well as pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic parameters.

NCT ID: NCT02896257 Completed - Clinical trials for Treatment of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease

De-implementing Inhaled Steroids to Improve Care and Safety in COPD

DISCUSS COPD
Start date: September 6, 2016
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

This Quality Enhancement Research Initiative (QuERI) project is designed to determine efficacy and acceptance of an intervention method to provide primary care providers with patient-tailored electronic consults and corresponding unsigned orders for de-implementation of inhaled corticosteroids (ICS) for patients with COPD when ICS are not indicated by guidelines.

NCT ID: NCT02896205 Completed - Systemic Sclerosis Clinical Trials

Study to Compare the Efficacy of Mycophenolate Mofetil in Systemic Sclerosis Related Early Interstitial Lung Disease

MYILD
Start date: October 2016
Phase: Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

Systemic sclerosis is a multisystem disease and can involve the lungs in the form of ILD. Lung involvement is the most common cause of death in these patients. The present study is performed to study the efficacy of oral mycophenolate mofetil in treating early and mild ILD in patients of SSc. The efficacy and side effects of mycophenolate mofetil will be compared with that of oral placebo.

NCT ID: NCT02895152 Completed - Clinical trials for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease

Activity Monitor Use in COPD Patients Undergoing Rehabilitation

Start date: August 2016
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

In patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) lifestyles with lower physical activity levels have been shown to increase the risk of hospital admissions and shorten survival rates. An established process in increasing activity levels is to undergo pulmonary rehabilitation classes. The investigators wish to identify whether the use of activity monitors, which will provide feedback on activity levels, will increase the physical activity levels of patients with COPD outside of the supervised pulmonary rehabilitation sessions.

NCT ID: NCT02888886 Completed - Clinical trials for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease

Role of Systemic Inflammation in Increase of Cardio-vascular Risk in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease

BPCO
Start date: July 2007
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The purpose is to study the correlation between systemic inflammation (serum levels of CRP, IL-1beta, IL-6 and TNF-alpha) or hyperhomocysteinemia and the increase of mortality, in a representative cohort of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Secondary purposes are: 1. To confirm the increase of cardiovascular mortality and the importance of cardiovascular morbidity in patients with COPD, 2. To establish the role of various genetic polymorphisms in the correlation between systemic inflammation and cardiovascular disorders observed in COPD, 3. To search for acceleration of aging of cardiovascular system evaluated with carotid intima-media thickness when systemic inflammation markers are increased, 4. To study the correlation between COPD risk factors (tobacco and other food factors), change of respiratory functional data and cardiovascular morbi-mortality. In this study cardiovascular morbi-mortality is defined by following disorders: ischemic cardiopathy, left-sided heart failure, cardiac arrhythmia and cerebrovascular accident. Diagnosis is confirmed with standard techniques and independently of this study. Results of clinical examination, ECG, echocardiography and /or brain scanner will be collected.
