Gemcitabine With/Out Capecitabine in Locally Advanced, Unresectable, or Metastatic Biliary Cancer

RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as gemcitabine and capecitabine, work in different ways to stop the growth of tumor cells, either by killing the cells or by stopping them from dividing. It is not yet known whether gemcitabine is more effective when given together with or without capecitabine in treating patients with biliary cancer. PURPOSE: This randomized phase III trial is studying giving gemcitabine together with capecitabine to see how well it works compared with giving gemcitabine alone in treating patients with locally advanced, unresectable, or metastatic biliary cancer.

RATIONALE: A peripheral blood stem cell transplant or bone marrow transplant using stem cells from the patient may be able to replace immune cells that were destroyed by chemotherapy and image-guided intensity-modulated radiation therapy used to kill tumor cells. PURPOSE: This phase I trial is studying the side effects and best dose of bone marrow radiation therapy followed by an autologous stem cell transplant in treating patients with high-risk or relapsed solid tumors.

Sunitinib and Chemoembolization in Treating Patients With Liver Cancer That Cannot Be Removed by Surgery

RATIONALE: Sunitinib may stop the growth of tumor cells by blocking some of the enzymes needed for cell growth and by blocking blood flow to the tumor. Chemoembolization kills tumor cells by blocking the blood flow to the tumor and keeping chemotherapy drugs, such as doxorubicin, near the tumor. Giving sunitinib together with chemoembolization may kill more tumor cells. PURPOSE: This phase II trial is studying how well giving sunitinib together with chemoembolization works in treating patients with liver cancer that cannot be removed by surgery.

To evaluate the safety of the treatment of patients with technically or medically inoperable hepatocellular carcinoma and cholangiocarcinoma with proton therapy and concurrent bevacizumab biotherapy. 2. To evaluate local control rate within the radiation field, hepatic control rate outside the treatment field, time to radiographic progression and 2 year survival rate. 2. To analyze dose-volume characteristics that influence the development of radiation induced liver disease (RILD) and GI bleeds that may occur. 3.
