Management of Postoperative Pain With Preemptive Analgesia in Cesarean Section

Start date: June 2016
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

This research will explore the question of whether preincisional skin infiltration with bupivacaine 0.25% decreases postoperative pain after Cesarean delivery.

NCT ID: NCT02733835 Recruiting - Labor Pain Clinical Trials

VPIA Remifentanil for Labour Pain to Reduce Maternal Desaturation and Improve Analgesic Titration

Start date: December 2016
Phase: Phase 4
Study type: Interventional

This study is a prospective cohort study aiming to evaluate an improved VPIA remifentanil algorithm which would benefit labouring mothers who are unable or unwilling to receive epidural analgesia

NCT ID: NCT02575677 Recruiting - Labor Pain Clinical Trials

Oxycodone in Treatment of Early Labour Pain Efficacy and Safety

oksisynnytys
Start date: October 2012
Phase:
Study type: Observational

Oxycodone is used to treat early labour pain instead of meperidine. However, the efficacy and effects of oxycodone to the newborn has not been studied. In the present study, patient who has received oxycodone is asked about pain relief and after labour single venous blood sample from the parturient and umbilical cord are taken for the analysis of oxycodone.

NCT ID: NCT02427139 Recruiting - Labor Pain Clinical Trials

ANSiStim Study for Active Labor Pain

ANSS-ALP
Start date: March 2015
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The specific aim of the study is to do comparison between ANSiStim and Placebo for pain relief in labor. During the treatment, pain relief will be assesed with ANSiStim in active labor through continues checking of VAS SCORE. ANSiStim has been tried in post operative patients with good pain relief .

NCT ID: NCT01708668 Recruiting - Pain Clinical Trials

The Effects of Intermittent Epidural Bolus on Fever During Labor Analgesia

EIEBFLA
Start date: October 2012
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Epidural analgesia is associated with maternal intra-partum fever during labor. Intermittent epidural injections appear to reduce the incidence of maternal intra-partum fever compared to continuous epidural infusion during labor analgesia. However, the optimal combination of bolus volume and administrating interval has not yet been compared. The purpose of this prospective, randomized, double-blind trial was to determine how intermittent epidural bolus reduced the incidence of maternal intra-partum fever compared with continuous epidural infusion during labor.

NCT ID: NCT01651962 Recruiting - Labor Pain Clinical Trials

Intravenous Terbutaline to Facilitate Labor Epidural Catheter Placement

Start date: August 2012
Phase: Phase 4
Study type: Interventional

Labor pain is a major factor in making the placement of an epidural catheter difficult. The epidural, once in place and dosed, eventually decreases the parturient's pain. To achieve this goal as fast and safely as possible it would be helpful to have a parturient who can tolerate and co-operate with the placement of the epidural catheter. Briefly stopping contractions, the cause of labor pain, could be the key to achieve this goal. This study will evaluate the safety, efficacy and duration of the drug terbutaline for this purpose.

NCT ID: NCT01051726 Recruiting - Labor Pain Clinical Trials

Effects of Aromatherapy on Childbirth

Start date: January 2012
Phase: Phase 2
Study type: Interventional

Aromatherapy is a form of complementary medicine that uses scented materials known as essential oils for the purpose of affecting a person's health or mood. Although aromatherapy has been used in childbirth for centuries, there are no high-quality studies examining whether the treatment works. Methodology We would like to see if aromatherapy affects a woman's experience of childbirth by lowering associated anxiety and pain. Consenting participants will be randomly allocated to one of these groups: 1. Aromatherapy oils (e.g. clary sage, peppermint, lavender, frankincense) 2. Non-essential oil (baby oil) 3. Standard maternity care We will gather primary data, e.g. if she's been in labour before and her awareness of complementary medicine. We will also conduct the Spielberger State-Trait Anxiety Inventory with her, and provide her with the oil and swab if she is in groups 1 or 2 with instructions to keep the swab with the oil on it near to her. She can also put more oil on the swab as she requires. Postnatally, data will be collected from her notes regarding pain relief used, duration of labour, augmentation of labour, and any other medical interventions of note. We will also complete the anxiety scale with her once more. Before her discharge we ask the mother for any comments regarding her experience of the labour. The results from all three cohorts will then be compared. There will also be opportunity for the midwife to make any comments regarding his/her perception of the participant's labour. Finally we will hold a focus group with midwives regarding the practicalities for implementation of aromatherapy in maternity care

NCT ID: NCT00768014 Recruiting - Labor Pain Clinical Trials

fMRI Measurements on Pain Relief Methods in First Stage Labor Pain

TENS
Start date: March 2008
Phase: N/A
Study type: Observational

The purposes of this study is to integrate the objective tests into the subjective test, visual analog score (VAS), for evaluation and further understanding of relieving labor pain by TENS application on acupuncture points in the first stage of labor.
