Reducing HIV-related Stigma in School Children in Northern Uganda

Over 2.6 million children aged 0-15 years are living with HIV globally, with the majority living in low and middle income countries in sub-Saharan Africa. Addressing stigma associated with HIV is key given the significant harm that may be experienced in the form of negative health and social outcomes, reduced access to HIV prevention services, and increased vulnerability to infection. This stepped-wedge, cluster randomized trial with assess the impact of an arts-based HIV stigma intervention on knowledge and attitudes towards children who are HIV+ and - affected; enacted, internalized, anticipated, courtesy, and perceived stigma (primary outcomes); HIV testing frequency among sexually active participants; linkage to care, antiretroviral therapy (ART) initiation and adherence among HIV+ participants; and viral suppression among HIV+ participants (secondary outcomes) of children aged 10+ years in Omoro District, Uganda, post-intervention and 5-months post-intervention.

Home HIV Testing for Older Adults in South Africa

Many older adults in rural South Africa still lack knowledge of their HIV status despite a high probability of infection. Older adults tend to test less for HIV because most HIV testing and prevention programs have been targeted at younger age groups. Other reasons for failure to test for HIV include frailty and lack of financial resources to travel to HIV testing centers. Home-based testing is a powerful approach to bring HIV testing services -- and HIV status knowledge -- to older adults. In real-life health systems, community health workers, such as the South African community care givers, could potentially provide home-based HIV testing on a routine basis. In this study, the investigators are trying to establish the best 'form' for the 'function' home-based HIV testing. Specifically, the investigators aim to 1. Establish the comparative effectiveness of three home-based HIV testing options among older adults in rural South Africa 2. Identify spill-over effects of the different home-based HIV testing options to other adults in the households and communities of the older adults receiving the testing options 3. Determine the comparative cost-effectiveness of the three home-based HIV testing options among older adults.

Effects of an Educational Intervention on Rehabilitation Clinicians' Practices for Health-related Outcomes After Stroke

The overall aim of this pilot study is to evaluate the feasibility of a study protocol for a future stepped wedge cluster randomized clinical trial (c-RCT) that will investigate the effects of an innovative KT intervention on 1) walking capacity and independence in ADL in patients undergoing rehabilitation after stroke (patient outcomes); and 2) clinicians' practice (i.e. use of 4 evidence-based stroke rehabilitation interventions: motor imagery/mental practice, rhythmic auditory stimulation gait therapy, task oriented training including fitness and mobility exercises and aerobic training) (provider outcome) aimed at improving walking capacity. The specific objectives are: 1) To evaluate the feasibility (effectiveness of clinician recruitment strategies, extent of losses to follow-up across sites, and data analysis plans) of the study protocol in terms of methodology (stepped wedge design is an innovative methodology); 2) To estimate intervention effect sizes on study outcomes (patient and clinician); 3) To evaluate the secondary outcome (clinicians' use of the 4 interventions) with regard to reliability and validity.

The Effect of a Safety Video on Ski and Snowboard School Program Participants in Calgary, Alberta

The main objective of the study is to investigate if a video intervention can help increase knowledge, decrease risky behaviours on the hill, and reduce injury risk in students who participate in ski and snowboard school programs. The study design is a cluster randomized controlled trial where participating schools will be randomized into either an intervention or control group. The intervention video will contain an injury prevention and safety promotion component for skiing or snowboarding. The control group will receive the standard orientation video that many schools typically provide for students prior to their ski/snowboard outings in previous years.
