This is an open label, randomized phase II trial. Eligible subjects will be randomized in a 1:1 ratio and stratified for known prognostics variables to one of two first-line medication treatment arms. RATIONALE: Genistein may increase the effectiveness of radiation therapy in treating pain caused by bone metastases. PURPOSE: This phase I/II trial is studying the side effects of genistein and to see how well it works in treating patients undergoing external-beam radiation therapy for pain caused by bone metastases.
RATIONALE: Tubefeeding may help maintain good nutrition and lessen weight loss in younger patients receiving chemotherapy for cancer. PURPOSE: This clinical trial is studying how well tube feedings work in younger patients receiving chemotherapy for newly diagnosed acute myeloid leukemia, myelodysplastic syndrome, or high-risk solid tumors.
RATIONALE: Talabostat may stop the growth of tumor cells by blocking some of the enzymes needed for cell growth. PURPOSE: This phase II trial is studying how well talabostat works in treating patients with metastatic kidney cancer.
RATIONALE: Stereotactic radiation therapy may be able to send x-rays directly to the tumor and cause less damage to normal tissue. Giving stereotactic radiation therapy before surgery may make the tumor smaller and reduce the amount of normal tissue that needs to be removed. PURPOSE: This phase I trial is studying the side effects and best dose of stereotactic radiation therapy in treating patients with kidney tumors.
RATIONALE: Monoclonal antibodies, such as CNTO 328, can block tumor growth in different ways. Some block the ability of tumor cells to grow and spread. Others find tumor cells and help kill them or carry tumor-killing substances to them. PURPOSE: This phase II trial is studying how well CNTO 328 works in treating patients with unresectable or metastatic kidney cancer.
