RATIONALE: Vaccines may help the body build an effective immune response to kill cancer cells. Giving vaccine therapy after an autologous stem cell transplant may kill any cancer cells that remain after transplant. PURPOSE: This clinical trial is studying how well vaccine therapy works in treating patients who have undergone autologous stem cell transplant for high-risk lymphoma or multiple myeloma.

Giving more than one drug (combination chemotherapy) may kill more tumor cells.

Colony-stimulating factors such as filgrastim may increase the number of immune cells found in bone marrow or peripheral blood and may help a person recover from the side effects of chemotherapy. Combining chemotherapy with interferon alfa may kill more tumor cells. PURPOSE: Phase II trial to study the effectiveness of combining chemotherapy and interferon alfa followed by filgrastim in treating patients who have gastrointestinal tract cancer.
