Influence of Implant Component Materials on Peri-implant Soft Tissue Horst Response.

The aim of this study was to characterize the host-related response of peri-implant soft tissue induced by 3 different materials: titanium, resin and PEEK (polyetheretherketone) on man. The primary endpoint is to asses the histological data available: Histological analyses are carried out with immunohistology (CD68, CD3, CD20, macrophages), non decalcified histology to appreciate the structure of the peri implant soft tissues (Sulcus depth, junctional epithelium, connective tissue adhesion). Moreover: scanning electronic microscope (SEM) of the experimental abutment is performed to juge the cell adhesion on the abutment surface. The secondary endpoint is to assess clinical data, radiological bone remodeling regarding the different material. The hypothesis is that resin abutment lead to more inflammation than PEEK or titanium.

Only very few studies have prospectively looked at the effect of repeated intensive plasma donation. In collaboration with the Rode Kruis Vlaanderen, we have recently found that repeated whole blood donation with a 3-month interval in between induced a drop in markers for iron status, which worsened with the number of donations. The repetition effect of the donations, whether whole blood or plasma, can be different from the effects measured after one single donation. It is therefore critical to test and document this repetitive effect to build trustable and valid guidelines concerning repetitive plasma donation.

Methods: 40 participants were randomized into two groups: Colgate's toothpaste tablets (T) and Colgate's Cavity Protection toothpaste (C). Both groups utilized their assigned dentifrice for 2 weeks. A pre and post-assessment measured the GI and PI index. A questionnaire on the use of the product was distributed.

Red Palm Olein on Inflammation and Gut Health

A parallel intervention was conducted to test the effect of consuming diets enriched with red palm olein (RPOO), extra virgin coconut oil (EVCO) and extra virgin olive oil (EVOO; positive control) in centrally obese individuals over a 12-week period. Following the screening of the subjects' health status, including their biochemical and lipid profiles, the subjects completed a 12-week dietary intervention. Both fasting blood and urine samples were collected at baseline (day 0) and endpoint (week 12); measurements were taken in duplicates. All data collected were blinded to the investigators by an independent third party until the completion of the analysis.

COVID-19 Pneumonia and Gut Inflammation

The primary objective of our study was to evaluate the efficacy of a mix of three probiotic strains (Bifidobacterium lactis LA 304, Lactobacillus salivarius LA 302, and Lactobacillus acidophilus LA 201; Lactibiane Iki®) in the reduction in fecal calprotectin in patients with COVID-19 pneumonia, compared to a control group. The secondary aim was to evaluate the reduction in oxygen support and length of hospital stay in patients taking the probiotic mix.
