Filter by:This is a multinational, non-interventional, cross-sectional survey conducted among HCPs based in the EU/EEA who prescribe Piqray. The survey will assess the knowledge of HCPs prescribing Piqray in relation to the management of hyperglycemia in patients treated with Piqray. The survey will endeavor to collect a minimum to 30-50 completed surveys.
Postprandial hyperglycemia or rapid rise in blood glucose is defined as a blood glucose level>7.8 mmol/L (140 mg/dL) 1- 2 hours after consumption of food. It is associated to the development of diabetes among healthy individuals and a risk factor for the onset and progression of microvascular and macrovascular complications among diabetic patients. In Ramadan, postprandial hyperglycemia is often observed after the iftar (fasting break after sunset). The frequency of eating normally decreases during Ramadan, however, the energy intake remains questionable because dietary practices during Ramadan are influenced by local culture, economic status and individual dietary behaviors. In many Muslim societies including Malaysia, Ramadan has known as a month of feasting. Iftar meals are typically high calorie, carbohydrate-rich and usually sweet food resulting in rapid rise in glucose after the meal. This poses a challenge for the people with diabetes to manage their glucose level. D-allulose (a C-3 epimer of D-fructose) is a rare sugar and reported to have several health benefits, such as suppressing a rise in postprandial glucose levels. There is still a scarcity of research on patients with diabetes. As a result, the current clinical study sought to investigate the effect of supplemental D-allulose on participants with type 2 diabetes who consume real-meal calories during Ramadan iftar.
The purpose of this study is to test the effectiveness of a mobile application diabetes prevention program delivered with microlearning and microcoaching.
The purpose of this research study is to compare the effectiveness of a fully automated digital diabetes prevention program to standard of care human coach-based diabetes prevention programs for promoting clinically meaningful lifestyle changes to reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes in adults with prediabetes.
The findings of previous experiments suggested that alpha linolenic acid (ALA) has been linked to anti-hyperglycemic, and reducing the risk of diabetes.This is a randomized double-blind cross-over trial, aims to study the effect of ALA on glycemic status and human metabolism. Firstly, the investigators will investigate the efficacy of ALA on improving the indexes of glucose metabolism. Secondly, next generation sequencing (NGS), ultra-high performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometric (UPLC-MS/MS) and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry detection will be conducted to explore the role of ALA on gut microbiota as well as metabolites. Thirdly, single nucleotide polymorphism will be genotyped by Time-of-flight mass spectrometry to find the gene-environment interaction effect.
Patients with postoperative hyperglycemia have higher complication rates and worse outcomes than patients with in-target glucose, including longer length-of-stay, more admissions to intensive care, increased readmission rates, and higher risk of infection. There are 35-40% of surgical patients at risk of postoperative hyperglycemia, including 20-30% of patients with diabetes, 10% with undiagnosed diabetes, and another 5-10% without diabetes who will have hyperglycemia. Data demonstrate significant quality and practice gaps that contribute to postoperative hyperglycemia in Alberta; 43% of patients with diabetes had no postoperative glucose measurements and two-third had postoperative hyperglycemia. The multi-disciplinary Perioperative Glycemic Management Pathway (PGMP) has been demonstrated to reduce postoperative hyperglycemia and improve outcomes for surgical patients in pilot-testing. This project will confirm the effects of the PGMP on (1) postoperative glycemic management; (2) length-of-stay; (3) readmission rates and (4) cost savings; compared to usual care in surgical patients admitted for >24-hours postoperatively. We will implement the PGMP in 12 services in 6 hospitals in Alberta using implementation science and an evidence-informed knowledge translation approach. Impact will be analyzed using a stepped-wedge study design and will include formal evaluation of cost-effectiveness and implementation, clinical, and patient-reported outcomes. The primary efficacy outcome is change in length-of-stay pre/post implementation. Secondary clinical outcomes include the 30-day readmission rate, surgical site infection rate, 30-day mortality, and one-year mortality. We will implement the PGMP for 23,200 patients, and reduce postoperative hyperglycemia and associated complications for 7,665 patients, avoiding the expenditure of >$24.6 million for a return on investment of 1,810%.
The main objective of this study is to investigate the optimal anesthesia for obese patients undergoing bariatric surgery in the strategies of positive pulmonary ventilation, tracheal intubation technique, hemodynamic monitoring, and postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) prophylaxis, as the followed: 1. To evaluate the effectiveness and adverse effect of intravenous dexamethasone for PONV prophylaxis 2. To determine the safe inspiratory pressure to prevent the occurrence of gastric insufflation during facemask ventilation using point-of-care ultrasonography of antrum 3. To compare the effectiveness and safety between video intubating stylet and video laryngoscope in the placement of tracheal tubes 4. To apply minimally invasive CO monitors in guiding goal-directed hemodynamic therapy and assess its impact on major complications and postoperative recovery
The investigators aim to study the effects of a 24-week remote-based resistance exercise training program on cardiovascular disease risk factors, cognitive function, and quality of life in older adults living with mild cognitive impairment or Alzheimer's Disease and/or a related dementia. Data for this study will be collected at the beginning, middle, and end of the resistance training program. Participants of this study will receive a baseline health-fitness assessment at the beginning of the study. Measurements of resting blood pressure, fasting blood glucose and lipids, waist and hip circumferences, height and weight, cognitive function and quality of life will be collected at the health-fitness assessment. Participants will then receive supervised remote-based resistance exercise training with Therabands, 3 days per week for 12 weeks before receiving a second 12-week health-fitness assessment in the middle of the intervention. Participants will then receive 12 additional weeks of supervised remote-based resistance exercise training with Therabands, 3 days per week for 12 weeks before receiving a third 24-week health fitness assessment at the end of the study.
Repeated, elevated levels of glucose (sugar) within the blood after eating can lead to type 2 diabetes. In adults, eating breakfast lowers blood glucose responses to subsequent meals when compared with skipping breakfast. Yet, adolescent girls may respond differently due to differences in how their bodies use energy. This is important because around 80% of the United Kingdom (UK) adolescent girls skip breakfast. As common reasons for skipping breakfast in adolescent girls are 'lack of time' and 'not hungry' in the morning, eating breakfast during the mid-morning may be an attractive option for them. This project will be the first to compare the impact of eating breakfast in the early morning and mid-morning with skipping breakfast on subsequent blood glucose levels in adolescent girls who usually skip breakfast. The findings will inform recommendations tailored to an 'at risk' and under-researched population for type 2 diabetes prevention, which is more effective than a cure.
This is a multicenter study testing the effect of bread containing beta-glucan on glycemic control in participants with intermediate hyperglycemia. The main hypothesis of the study is that bread enriched with beta-glucan will have a positive effect on blood glucose control (HbA1c) in persons with intermediate hyperglycemia. Bread (intervention and control) will be produced by Nofima (Ås, Norway) using food-grade beta-glucan from oat and barley and shipped to the study centers (Bergen (N), Gothenburg (S), Paderborn, and Leipzig (D)) and there distributed for free to the participants of the study. The study will last for 16 weeks with measurements at baseline, after 8 weeks and after 16 weeks. Blood and urine samples will be taken, anthropometry and body composition measured, and questionnaires on health status and socio-economic status, physical activity, nicotine use, alcohol habits, chronotype, quality of life, and consumer acceptance of the study bread will be filled in.
