Aerobic Exercise With Diet Induces Hormonal, Metabolic, and Psychological Changes

PURPOSE: to determine the effect of aerobic exercise training and diet on sex hormones , insulin resistance and depression and if is there correlation between these factors effect in postmenopausal obese women BACKGROUND: The practice of regular physical activity is recommended worldwide by different public health agencies for primary or secondary prevention of many health problems, including cancers. In particular, physical activity is associated with a 25 % reduction in the average risk of cardiovascular diseases among women, and this protective effect appears to be independent of menopausal status. Many interrelated biological mechanisms may underlie this association, such as the effect of physical activity on glucose metabolism, inflammation, immune function, and sex hormones. Indeed, endogenous sex hormones, particularly estrogens, seem to be involved in the initiation, promotion, and progression of tumors. Prolonged exposure to high endogenous hormone levels is considered one of the main risk factors for female breast cancer, with a relative risk of 2.00 (95 % confidence interval (CI): 1.47-2.71) for postmenopausal women with the highest estradiol levels . Several observational studies have found an inverse association between physical activity and circulating estrogen levels . This effect may be mediated by the decrease in fat mass, the main source of estrogens in postmenopausal women. It may also be mediated by the disruption of the menstrual cycle before menopause , especially when exercise is associated with low energy intakes. However, the assessment of the exposure to physical activity remains imprecise, because it is generally only possible to measure it in naturally living subjects using questionnaires . Effects of a Single Bout of Resistance Training Session on Hormonal Response in Pre-pubertal and Pubertal Boys

: Resistance training induces strength gains in both children and adolescents. Exercise training is linked to anabolic functions through the GH-IGF-I axis. This has been demonstrated in studies showing a higher activity of GH and IGF-I in fitter adolescents and adults. Exercise also stimulates pro-inflammatory cytokines (IL-1β, IL-6, TNF-α) that suppress the GH-IGF-I axis. This has been observed in endurance-type training, while resistance training has received less attention. Boys experience a significant physiological muscle-growth change during puberty that is associated with increases in boys androgen levels. How maturation affects the hormonal response to resistance training in boys is unclear. Therefore, the purpose of the study is to compare the acute effects of a single bout of resistance training on hormones and pro-inflammatory cytokines in pre-pubertal and pubertal boys.

Breakfast Consumption and Energy Balance in Active Adult Males

Exercising in the fasted state results in greater fat oxidation during exercise and results in decreased caloric intake in the meals after exercise. However, the studies that examine fasted vs. fed exercise utilize a carbohydrate-based breakfast, which can increase blood glucose and insulin concentrations, which is considered a negative consequence. A protein breakfast, which can increase satiety and rest of day energy intake could also increase resting energy expenditure as well as fat oxidation during exercise. However, comparisons between fasting exercise and pre-exercise breakfast macronutrient intake (i.e., carbohydrate vs. protein) have not been made. Therefore the purpose of this study is to investigate if eating breakfast and the composition of this breakfast before exercise has an effect on the food eaten throughout the rest of the day.

Efficacy and Safety of Dipeptidyl Peptidase-4 Inhibitors in Diabetic Patients With Established COVID-19

The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is an emerging pandemic in 2020 caused by a novel coronavirus named SARS-CoV2. Diabetes confers a significant additional risk for COVID-19 patients. Dipeptidyl peptidase 4 (DPP-4) is a transmembrane glycoprotein expressed ubiquitously in many tissues. In addition to its effect on glucose levels, DPP-4 has various effects on the immune system and several diseases, including lung diseases. This trial aims to assess the safety and efficacy of linagliptin, a DPP-4 inhibitor, in the treatment of COVID-19. The trial will be randomized without blinding, with one are treated by insulin only for glucose balance and the other by insulin and linagliptin. The trial will assess the effects of linagliptin on different measures of COVID-19 recovery.

Female inability to conceive a child. The purpose of this prospective randomized, double-blinded, double dummy, two-arm cross-over study is to investigate the difference on histological, transcriptional and immunological level in endometrium between 3x10mg Dydrogesterone oral tablets and 3x200 mg Micronized progesterone intravaginal capsules for the luteal support in egg cell donors. Beside that, the pharmacokinetics, the impact on the peripheral immunology (by blood sampling) and the microbiota (by genital swabs) will be investigated.

CaREFREE Study (Calorie Restriction, Environment and Fitness: Reproductive Effects Evaluation Study)

Background: Functional hypothalamic amenorrhea (functional HA) is a condition where a woman s period stops for a temporary time. This is due to improper function of the hypothalamus. This is the part of the brain that directs the whole reproductive system. Researchers want to learn more about functional HA. They also want to learn how diet, exercise, and other factors may change women s menstrual cycles. Objective: To better understand functional HA. Eligibility: Healthy women ages 18-28 years old who: - Have regular periods - Exercise no more than 4 hours a week - Had their first period at age 11-14 Design: Participants will be prescreened over the phone. Participants will be screened with: - Blood and urine tests - Medical history - Physical exam. Participants will have 9 or 10 visits over about 3 menstrual cycles. These include: - Repeat of screening tests - Questionnaires - Exercise test - Resting energy expenditure test: Participants fast overnight before the test. They lie on their back under a canopy for a half hour. - Body composition test: This is done with a dual energy x-ray absorptiometry (DXA) scan. - Pelvic ultrasound - For two full-day visits, an IV is inserted into an arm vein. The IV takes a blood sample every 10 minutes for 8 hours. Participants will keep logs: - Menstrual cycle log - Diet log for three 4-day cycles Participants will receive test kits to complete at home: - Daily blood and urine sample - Ovulation Participants will take a daily iron supplement. They will wear a wristband that monitors activity 24 hours a day. Participants will stick to a special diet for two 5-day periods of time. They will complete two 4-day exercise programs....
