Online Yoga for Improving the Well-being of Desk-based Workers

The goal of this clinical trial is to evaluate the effectiveness of an 8-week online yoga intervention in improving the well-being and productivity of desk-based workers. The main questions it aims to answer are: - How effective is an 8-week online yoga intervention in improving the well-being (mental and physical) and productivity (work engagement and job performance) of the yoga group compared with passive controls? - Are there any differences in well-being and work-related measures between the yoga and control groups? Participants in the yoga group will practice yoga three days a week for 8 weeks and will be compared with a wait-listed control group, which will continue with the usual routine for 8 weeks. Researchers will evaluate the impact of yoga on the well-being and productivity of desk-based workers.

The goal of this Randomized Controlled Trial is to evaluate heart rate variability (HRV)before and after listening to music in patients scheduled for cataract surgery under topical anesthesia, compared to patients who do not listen to music. Our hypothesis is that the anxious population with a low HRV benefits from an anxiolytic effect of music to increase HRV levels.

Obesity and Bariatric Surgery According to a Biopsychosocial Perspective.

- The main goal of this prospective longitudinal observational study is to investigate the psychophysiological indicators by analyzing HRV, blood pressure, symptoms of anxiety and depression, eating behavior and quality of life during the follow-up of the general health status of patients with obesity undergoing the bariatric surgery by Roux-en-Y reconstruction reduction gastroplasty (GRYR) technique. - The main question it aims to answer is: Does bariatric surgery changes the variables studied (HRV, anxiety, depression, eating behavior, quality of life)? - Type of study: prospective longitudinal observational study - Participant population: 50 patients, both females and males, aged between 18 and 60 years, will be submitted to bariatric surgery with Roux-en-Y reconstruction reduction gastroplasty technique. Patients will be evaluated for five times: before the bariatric surgery and 3-6-12-24 months after the bariatric surgery.

Effects of Yoga on Women With Breast Cancer

Upper limb complications and sleep disturbances are prevalent, persistent, and serious health problems in women with breast cancer. However, these problems are underrecognized in clinical practice and thus have substantial adverse impacts on the health and quality of life of women with breast cancer. As yoga practices have been shown to improve physical and psychological health in people with cancer, such practices may also alleviate upper limb complications and sleep disturbances in women with breast cancer. However, there are few evidence-based guidelines or protocols to support the integration of yoga therapy into clinical practice for managing the health conditions of women with breast cancer. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the effects of yoga therapy on improving the upper limb functions, sleep quality, and quality of life in women with breast cancer.

Effect on Markers of Cardiovascular, Reproductive and Cancer Risk From Firefighting Training

Epidemiological studies based on Danish registries have observed that Danish male firefighters have more cardiovascular disease, infertility diagnose and a trend to increased risk of cancer than other Danish employed males. Firefighting activities include a combination of stressors such as strenuous work under heat, smoke and soot known to be able to affect cardiovascular and reproductive health, with smoke and soot also being known to increase the risk of cancer. The training facilities of real-fire extinguishing exercises in Denmark operate using wood or natural gas fire, which will have differential gradients of smoke, soot and possibly heat. The investigators will use different training conditions to create gradients of the different stressors and investigate health effects thereof. With this approach, the investigators expect to be able to evaluate the individual contribution of the different stressors in markers of cardiovascular, cancer and reproductive health risk. The project will include approx. 35 young conscript participants on a firefighting course, followed in four sessions, three firefighting training sessions under different fire conditions (no fire, wood fire and gas fire) and one control scenario.

Auricular Vagus Stimulation and Heart Rate Variability

Transcutaneous electrical stimulation of the auricular vagus nerve (TENS) is a promising method of neuromodulation of the autonomic nervous system in patients with various pathologies. The use of this method requires the determination of a reliable biomarker of successful activation of the vagus nerve using TENS. Currently, most studies focus on the assessment of heart rate variability (HRV) as a marker of the functioning of the autonomic nervous system. Despite the physiological justification of HRV as a biomarker for TENS, the data on the effects of TENS on HRV are ambiguous. In some studies, a significant decrease in the ratio of spectral characteristics (LF/HF) in active TENS was found in comparison with fictitious stimulation (sham), which indicated an increase in the parasympathetic component of HRV. However, other studies have not revealed an increase in HRV.
